A. w. SCHMUTZER Juurmi Filed Oct/1'7, 1925 Patented Mar. 30, 1926.
ANTON W. senmo'rznn, or 'eannnon, wrseonsmf. 1
(JUMPER.
Application filed October 17, 1925. Serial No. 63,0 72.
Z '0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Anron RV. Sormrura 121:, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Crandon, in the county of Forest and State of lVisconsin, have invented 'cer tain new and useful Improvements inJumpers; and I do hereby declare that the-following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof. I
The invention relates to jumpers forchildren, such devices being commonly known as teetentotters.
()bjects of this invention are to provide a device which will support a child and permit the child to readily operate the device, to raise and lower the child in a. periodic manner, and to provide a device which, is
freely portable and does not occupy a great amount of room. I
Further obj cots are to provide a device of the above type which is equipped withresilient restoring means adapted to balance the weight of the child and is so constructed that the tension of the resilient means will be exactly proportioned to the weight of the child in a simple and easy manner. 7 An embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device, such view being partly in section.
Figure 2 is a rear view of the structure shown in Figure 1.
' Referring to the drawings, it will be seen that the device is provided with a bed plate or platform 1 which may be provided with rollers or sliding; knobs 2 in any suitable manner. This platform carries uprights 3 which are preferably of channel iron and are securely braced by means of the strap members or braces 4 extending downwardly and rearwardly from the uprights and secured at opposite ends of the uprights and base.
The oscillating; or pivotally mounted beam 5 is provided with a transverse metal member 6 equipped with downwardly turned apertured ears 7. A supporting rod or pintle 8 extends through the uprights 3 and through the ears 7 provided with a seat portion 9 at its outer end and is provided with a triangular frame work consisting of a piece of strap iron having a flat portion 10, secured to the under side of the bar and having a verticalportion ll joined to a diagonal or slanting portion 12.
aperture 16.
The beam or rocking bar 5 is,
The lower ends of the portions 11 and 12 are jolned by an eye bolt 13.
A spring 14 has one end hooked in 'the eye bolt 15 adapted to be received in any one of the apertures 16 in the base 1. r The outer end of the spring' is provided with a hook 17 adapted tobe hooked into the eye bolt 15, as shown, or any one of the apertures 18 formed in the diagonal arm or member 12.
It is intended that the forward end of the rocking beam 15 be ornamented with an animal head or suitable device such as indicated at 19, and if desired, reins 20 may extend rearwardly from such head.
)In order to accommodate children of different weights, the adjustment for the spring s provided as previously described. This adjustment may bejmade in a very accurate manner by either varying the length of the lever arm from the beam 5 by passingthe hook 17 of the spring through any of the apertures .18 or through the eye bolt 13; Further, if additional tension isfl-needed, the
Although the invention-has been described 1n considerable detail, 1t 1s to be understood that the ln'vention may be variously embodied and is,'therefore, to be limited only as claimed. i
I claim:
1. A device of the class described comprising a base having a plural tyof apertures in a more remote device has been proadjacent its rear end, uprights carried by i said base adjacent its forward end. a beam pivoted between said uprights and having a downwardly. extending arm, said arm being of triangular construct-ion, a spring having bolt attached to the rearward end of said spring and adapted for insertion into anyone .of the apertures in said-base.
. 2. A device of the class described eompris? ward end, a beam pivoted between said forits forward end secured to said arm, and a ward uprights and having a seatformed at itsouter end, a strap-like member secured to said beam and bent t9" flfm 1a downwardly projecting triangular ai'in, an eye bolt joining the ends of said strap, a portion of said strep being provided with a plurality of zipeitmes, a spring :having a bolt at its rear end adapted for insertion in any one of the apertures in said base and having 1100}! at its foiwvzu'd end adapted for engagement with said eye bolt or with any of (he upon tures in said strap.
In testimony that 1 claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand "at Crandon. in the county of Forest and State of Vviseonsin.
A TONW. SCHMUTZER.
