Description

G. B. KELLY.
Reed-Organ Actions.
N0,I57,839, Patented Dec.l5,1874.
WITNESSES.
UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIeE.
GEORGE E. KELLY, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT lN REED-ORGAN ACTIONS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No.157,839, dated December 15, 1574; application filed October 7,1874.
' be connected, of a lever or beam, which is hung to, and carried by, the key, and is connected to the said valves, and all in such a manner that, when the key is depressed, both valves will be opened simultaneously, evenly, and equally with each other, and similarly allowed to close as the key rises.
In the accompanying plate of drawings, the figure is a view in elevation along the length of a reed-organ key, and showing the two valve-lids and the interposed lever, in some parts in. vertical section.
In the drawings, A represents a reedorgan key; and 13, two valves, to which the keyAis to be connected, so that, by a depression thereof, both valves will be opened. The arrangement of the key A, and also the valves B, is the same as ordinarily, and therefore re quires no particular description herein. a, stems or tracker-pins, one to each valve B, for opening the same, as usual. At the upper end of the two stems a is located a horizontal lever or beam, 0, and this lever or beam, midway between its two ends, is hung; upon afulcrum, I), of the under side of the key. This lever or beam G is the interposed lever or beam composing this invention, and by and through it, when the key is depressed, obviously is se' cured a simultaneous, even, and equal openin g of both valves B, and, similarly, a closing of both valves as the key rises.
For regulating the bearing of the lever O on the valve-stems a, instead of hanging the lever directly to the key, I hang it in the free end 0 of an arm, at, fixed at one end to the key, as shown, and provide a regulatingscrew, f, to bear against the said free end 0, for adjusting said arm end d, and consequently the distance of the fulcrum of lever or beam C, from the valves B, to secure the proper operation of the parts. This regulatin feature may be dispensed with, but it is preferable to use it.
Havin g thus described my inventiou, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a reed-organ, the lever or beam O, interposed between the key A and the two valves B B, substantially as described, whereby the said lever operates both valves simultaneously, as and for the purpose specified.
