ILLUMINATING' DEVICE.-
Application filedluly, 24, 1924. Serial No. 728,082.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HERMENEGILDO AR- RUGA, a citizen of Spain, and residing at Barcelona, Spain, ghave invented a new and useful Illuminating Device (for which I have filed an application in GermanyzA'ugust 2, 1923), of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to that kind jof illuminating devices for any apparatus, destined for examininr the eye, in which a diaphragm is dispose between a source of light and a collective. lens system and whereby: the latter serves for imaging the diaphragm into the interior of the eye to be-examined. When usin such an illuminating device only a sma portion of the retina is illuminated at any one time and the observer is obliged to move the illuminated spot over. the retina. This can be :very easily effected in the lateral direction it the whole illuminating device be rotatable ,in a horizontal plane. In the height-direc- ;t1on, however, it 'is not easyto do this if (as it has alreadybe'en carried out) the whole illuminating device can'be tilted in a vertical plane. For, owing to the not inconsiderable bulk of such a device it is difiicult. 'to displace tlie illuminated sp )1? quite gradually. According to the press at invention an easy operation may be attained by rendering adjustable in the height direction the said collective lens system relatively to the carrier on which this system, the diaphragm and the source of light are disposed. a ,I The. annexed drawing shows a constructiorial example of the invention in a'iront elevation, partly in section.-
ing at the top a rotatable nut c. A holder (1, threaded at its bottom, is screwed into this nut.- On the top of the holder '03 is fixed a casing e in WhlCll there are disposed a low lamp f, a condenser system 9 gfand a iaphragm h. On the holder d is further fixed an arm 2' whichis provided at its free end with 'a carriage guide 7'. In this guide-a body 70 can be displaced. Through a vertical bore of this body is passed a bolt l which has a slit m. Through the-latter passes a pin n fixed in the body is, so thatthe in is displaceable but not rotatable relatively-to thcbody. At'its top the bolt Z carries a collective lens 0; the lower part of the bolt is threaded. A bushing 12 is rotatable upon the body is; it is supported by a collar 9 screwed to this body. l Vith the bushing p is rigidly connected a capsule 1" provided ivith a female thread in which engages the thread of the bolt 1. V
When using the device the observer at first imparts to the holder (1 by rotating the nut e, such a height that the eye to be examined can be struck by the light of the glow lamp. Thereupon the observer adjusts the' body In on the carriage guide 7' to such a position that the diaphragm h is imaged by the lens 0 on the retina of the eye to :be examined. If-he desires to cause the illumi- 7 nated spot to travel in the height-direction,
he turns'the capsule 1' in the one or the other direction. The observer willbe able to cause the spot to travel in the lateral direction by I claim: In an illuminating device for an apparatus destined' for examining the eye a holder, -0If this holder being disposed a source of light, a condenser system and a diaphragm, the condenser system lying between the source of light and the diaphragm, an arm connected with the said holder, optical means, adapted to form a real image, an
arm onwhich the said optical means are dis- On a base plate a rests a stand I), carry.-.
posed, the diaphragm lying between the said condenser system and the said optical means and the latter being adapted to image the diaphragm into the interior of the eye, and an adjusting device fitted to the arm andadmitting of displacing the said opticalmeans vertical relatively to the arm.
