Be it known that I, JAMES W..BRYCE, a
county of Essex and State of New Jersey,- have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Interlocking Systems ,jfor Door Locks and the like, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to interlocking systems for doom-locks. and the like. The invention finds particular utility in connection with recording locks TflIGIQID a record is'made of the time of looking or unlocking of the door, but it/isnot limited to such installations. It has heretofore been probeen properly bolted. In certain of these former systems of which Bush Patent No.
1,270,264 is an example, the circuit arrangements were. such that the supplementary lock contacts were serially connected and normally open with the supplementary bolts unlocked. 'l/Vith this system a weak or exhausted battery, a broken Wire, adcon- 'tacts or dirty contacts prevented the lock-,
mg of the main door lock. Furthermore the current consumption was high inasmuch as current kept flowing through the system until the main lock was advanced in the event the supplementary locks were. advanced and the main door closed.
In other systems such as that shown in the co-pending application of L. C. Bush, Serial I No. 731,006, filed August 9,1924, the com v trol contacts are in multiple and normally areclosed with the supplementary bolts unlocked. With a weak or exhausted battery or a broken wire the main door could be locked, but if the contacts were out of adjustment or if they were dirty the system might or might not function to prevent look ing of the main door. Current consumption is kept low in this system.
In the present invention the control contacts are serially connected but current only period during the locking operation upon the main door. With a weak or exhausted battery the main door can be locked buta broken wire,'bad contacts or of America, re-

Turning of the key barrel 1O actuates the bolt'15 in the usual manner. Oooperatin with disk 12 and abutment 14 is a pivote lever 16 which, upon rotation of'the key barrel 10 and disk 12, is adapted to close contact 17. Operation.
If any one or more of the contacts 20 are open thecircuit through winding26 is interrupted; consequently upon closure of contact 17 upon the attempted locking of the main door, current will flow through the coil 25, attracting the armature and displacing part 18 into interlocking posi: tiona Hence it is impossible to lock the main door if any of the bolts 21 are open. On the other hand, if all of the bolts 21 are advanced, thereby closing all of contacts 20, current is permitted to flow equally through the opposing windings 25 and 26 of magnet .19; consequently the. armaturamagnet will not be attracted and the main door may be locked. I In the event that the battery 22 entirely in windings 25, 26, and the main door may be locked if desired. It a wire in the system isi'broken as at X in the circuit 31, there will'be an unbalancing of the current conditions in magnet 19, and this will revent locking the door. The same action ta e's'place if any of the controlling contacts 20 aredirty.
What I claim is--. v p
1. In an interlocking door system wherein a main lock is'prevent'ed from being locked when one or more supplementary locks are unlocked; in combination with a controlling magnet and an interlocking device controlled thereby adapted to prevent lthe lockingof the main door, controlling circuits therefor including one or more contacts normally open when the supplementary locks are unlocked, a source of current for said circuits, said magnet and interlocking device the locking of the main door when the current source is inefi'ective.
2. m an interlocking door system wherein a main lock is prevented :from being locked when one or. more supplementary locks are unlocked, in combination with a controlling magnet, and an interlocking device controlled thereby adapted to prevent the locking of the main door, controlling circuits therefor including one or more contacts normally open when the supplementary locks are unlocked, ,a source of current! for said circuits, said controlling circuits,fmagnet and source of current being so related that the magnet device will operate the interlocking mechanism to prevent the locking of the main lock upon the breaking of wire in the con-. trolling circuit.
3. In an interlocking door system wherein a main lock is prevented from being locked when one or more Supplementary locks are magnet and an interlocking device controlled thereby adapted to prevent the locking of the main door, controlling circuits therefor including one or more contacts normally open when the supplementary locks are unlocked, a source of current for said circuits, said controlling circuits, magnet and source of current being so related that the magnet device will operate the interlocking mechanism to prevent the upon'the-breaking of wire in the controlling circuit; and means operative upon the attempted operation of the main locking device for supplying current to said controlling circuits.

In an interlocking door system wherein a main lock is prevented from being locked when one or more supplementary locks are unlocked, in combination with a controlling magnet and an interlocking device "controlled thereby adapted to prevent locking of the main lock' circuits therefor including one or more contacts normally openi when the supplementary locks are unlocked, a source of current for said circuits, said magnet and interlocking device having provisions for permitting the locking of the main door when the current source is ineffective, said contact devices and said controlling circuit being so arranged that. improper contact action will establish conditions which will prevent the locking of the main lock. In an interlocking door system wherein a main lock is prevented from being locked until one or more supplementary locks are locked, comprisingin combination with an interlocking magnet and controlling circuits therefor controlled by the supplementarylocks, a source of current, and means for controlling said interlocking magnet to permit the locking of the main door upon the weakening or exhausting of said current source, said means having provisions for preventing the locking of said main look upon the breaking of a wire in said controlling circuits. 6. An interlocking door system for preventing the locking of a main look when one or more supplementary locks are unlocked, comprising in combination, a main bolt mechanism, interlocking devices for said main bolt mechanism including a magnet having opposed windings thereon, means including circuits to said opposed windings for controlling the energization of the same, and
means operative upon unbalanced current flow conditions in said opposed windings for bringing about an interlocking action upon the main bolt mechanism.
7. An interlocking door system for preventing the locking of a main look when one or more supplementary locks are unlocked, comprisin in combination, a main bolt actuating mec anism,. an interlock therefor, a
magnet for operating the same, a circuit to said magnet including supplementary lock actuated contacts arranged in series and'normally open when the supplementary locks are unlocked, and means for completing said circuit by and upon the manipulation of the main bolt actuating mechanism.
8. In an interlocking door system includ-- ing interlocking mechanism, an interlocking magnet therefor, means operative upon a certain supply of current to said. magnet for rendering the same ineffective upon the controlled. interlocking mechanism and means operative upon a di iierent supplying of current thereto for rendering the magnet eil'ective to act upon the interlocking mechanism.
9. An interlocking door system for preventing the locking of a main look when one or more supplementary locks are unlocked, comprising in combination,a main boltactuating mechanism, an interlock there for, magneticmeans for actuating the same, control circuits for said magnet means including circuit controlling devices adjustable by'the supplementary locks and arranged to normally keep a part of the circuit open when the locks are unlocked, and a supplementary circuit controlling means adapted to temporarily supply current to said control ('zircuits by and upon the manipulation of the main bolt actuating devices.
