To all whom 2'25 may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD C. LEIMAN, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Nutley, in the county of Essex and State 5 of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Pump and Motor Mountings, of which the following is a specification.
'This' invention relates to a pump and motor mounting and has for its object to provide a base for the motor and a support for the pump, ranged in different horizontal planes.
Another object is to provide a unitary structure having abase for the motor and a support'for thepump, said supportbeing formed withian oil reservoir. for supplying oil forlubricating purposes.
Another object is to provide a unitary structure including a reservoir connected with the pump whereby air pressure is applied to the reservoir for feeding oil under pressure. Another object is to provide an audible indicator for the reservoir for signaling the level of the oil in the reservoir, which indicator is "arrangedto be operated by the pressure of air in the reservoir. Another object is to provide certain improvements in the form, construction and arrangement of the parts whereby the above named and attained;

Thus it will be seen that by reason of the air passing from the pump through the pipe 15 into the reservoir andthence through'the outlet'pipe 17 to a storage tank (not shown): or

By: means'of this pressure of air in the reservoir, I am enabled to force oil upwardly, through pipe connections 19,- in thepres'ent instance two are shown, hich connections lead to bearings 20 of the shaft 11 of the pump 9. Each connection'19 has a screen 21 at its *lower end to prevent foreign matter from being passed therethrough. While I have shown pipe connections 19'for supplying oil to the bearings 20, of the pump shaft 11, I wish it understood that 'similar connections may be inserted in thereservoir and arranged to supply oil to. other parts of the pump,
the motor or other machines (not' shown).
-In order, to announce that a predetermined low level ofoil in the reservoir has been reached, I provide. a signalwhich will automatically operate to sound an. alarm ressure of air in the reservoir,
as follows A nipple 22 having a screw threaded engagement with the cover 7 is arranged to receive a tubular member 23, the upper end of which is provided with a valve seat 24: arranged to coact with the needle valve 25 fixed to the upper end of a, hollow stem 26 carried by a float 27, of cork or other similar material. Thelower end of the tubular member 23 has a bushing 28 which forms a journal in which the stem 26 slides. A signal or audible alarm in the form of a whistle 29, of well known and approved con: struction, is secured to the upper portion of the nipple 22 and arranged to be oper-. ated by allowing the pressure of air in the reservoir to enter the tubular member. 23 through a hole 30, so that as the valve 25 moves away from its seat 24 the air will escape from the i'eservoirthrough the hole 30 in the member 23 and thence between the valve and its seat into and through the whistle 29, thereby sounding the alarm and audibly signaling the fact that the low level ofthe oil in the reservoir has been reached. Any amount of oil in the reservoir above the predetermined low level will cause the float to hold the needle valve on its seat until a certain level has been reached and as the oil is withdrawn through the connections, the level of the oil will fall until the float 27, through its stem 26, will draw the needle valve from its seat and open communication with the air in the reservoir through the hole 30 in the tubular member 23. i
As a convenient means for replenishing the oil'in the reservoiryI provide'an opening 31, (shown in dotted outline in Fig. 1) located at the junction of the base and one of the side walls of the reservoir, which opening is screw threaded and provided with a plug '32. A pet cook 33 is disposed near the bottom of the reservoir for removing the oil for purposes-of cleaning the reservoir or withdrawing any surplus amount o f'oil.
'It is evident that various changes may be resorted to in the form, constructlon and arrangement of the several parts'without departing from the spirit and scope of my nivention; hence, I do not intend to be limited to the specific details herein shown and described, except as they may be included in the claims.
What I claim is:
1. A pump and motor mounting having Ya base for the motor, an oil reservoir adjacent said base and provided with walls extendin upwardly above the base, a cover removab y secured to said walls, a pump mounted on the (lover and provided with means connected with the. reservoir through *the cover for applying pressure thereto, and an oil supplying means connecting the reservoir and pump through the cover.
2. A pump and motor mounting having a base for the motor, an oil reservoir adjacent said base and provided withwalls extending upwardly above the base, a cover removably secured to said walls, a pump mounted on the cover and provided with means connectedwith the reservoir through the cover for applying pressure thereto, an
oil supplying means connecting thereservoir and .pump through the cover,.and an outlet in the cover for the compressed air. 3. A pump and motor mounting having a base for the motor, an oil reservoir adjacent said base and provided with walls extending upwardly above the base, a cover removably secured to said walls, a pum mounted on the cover and provided wit means connected with the reservoir through the cover for applying pressure thereto, an oil supplying means connecting the reservoir and pump through the cover, an outlet in the cover for the compressed air, and an audible indicator mounted in the cover and operated by the air pressure in the reservoir for sounding an alarm at a predetermined level ofthe oil in the reservoir.
4, A pump andmotor mounting having a base for the motor, anoil reservoir adjacent said base and'provided with walls extending upwardly above the base, a cover .removably secured to saidwalls, a pump mounted on the cover and provided with. means connected with the reservoir through the cover for applying pressure thereto, an oil supplying means connecting the reservoir-and pump through the cover, an outlet in the cover for the compressed air, and an, indicator for the level of the oil in the reservoir,said indicator comprising a sound producing device mounted in the cover and" a float arranged to coact with said sound producing device to control the pressure of air tothe sound producing device.
