A RETURN FORMS F MESSAGES.
.Application led May 11, 1925. Serial Nb: 29,2192.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRY E. NK, a citieen or the United States of America, residing at East Orange, CQiinty Ot Essex, State of New Jersey, have invent ed certain new and useful Improvements in VReturn Forms i of Messages, of Ywhich the following is a.
specification.
This invention relates to return forms of IDBSSagGS.
` My invention is particiilarly directed to a copy of the message to be transmitted to a designated receiving party' under the conditions of prepaid transmission represented by suitable form-ot indication by the telegraph, cable, wireless or other transmitting company of the answer of the receiving party to the transmitted message.
. Further features and objects of the inventionA will be more fully understood rom'tlie following detail description and the accompanying drawings, in which- Fig. 1 ,shows a preferred form of dual blank applicabletor a telegraph, cable, or wireless company, the two portions representing the senders memorandum and senders message for the sending oce, and preferably detacbably connected to one another by perforations; and
Fig. 2 shows a preferred forni of dualv blank applicable for a telegraph, cable or wireless company, the two portions representing a blank for the senders message for the receiving oilice of the company and the other portion representing a. blank for the answer of the receiving party, the two portions being-'preferably detachably connected tol one another 4by perforations.
Referring to Fig. 1, the portion lO of the '-block shown in Fig. 1 is applicable for'the acter of the message authorized by the sender for checking-by lead pencil, ink or the like in the column marked 12, together With number of words to be indicated in the co1- umnpmarked 12". At 13 is represented a condensed form representing the payment of the senders message in accordance with the character of the transmission, and also suoli other data as is usual in telegraphing, cabling and the like.
At 14 is represented a condensedform indicating the character of transmission of the answer desired by the sender. Such 'form 14 preferably embodies the notation Answer paid for or the like for indicatin that the answer of the receiving party has een paid tor by the `sending party. @The column 14" is for checking to indicate the character of transmision of the answer to be sent and the column 14 is for the number of words 'prepaid by the sender.
The senders memorandum blank may also include the legend 15 embodyingyinstructions for theuse ofthe blank. It' Ydesired the senders memorandum blank 10 may be impressed by 'faint background printing 16 in red or other coloring? to identify the blank as l Round trip or*y Radio telegram or Return trip l or other return form of telegram and to diS- tinguish the same from the ordinary or other telegram..
In lieu of the indication 16 as aforesaid,
the vsenders memorandum may be' marked by a symbol such as the three stars 19, of
the same r different coloring, or in an other manner to designate that the blan is of the return or pre aid type or both return and prepaid, or li e form and in distinction from the ordinary or other form of sending telegram blank.
The message of the sender is preferably subscribed on the blank of the nature designated in lfig. 1 as Senders messagesending office. Such blank 20 may be provided with the-usual addressee spaces for the name and address and the lines 22 for the typing or other Writing of the actual sending message.
The senders message blank 20 is also provided with the column with a suitable condensed form 12 for designating the character of the message authorized by the sender of the sending message, similarly as the aforesaid blank l() and like parts are designated by like reference numbers; like- Wise the provision of a suitable form 13 to indicate the prepayment by the sender of the senders message. The form 13 embodies additional spaces for other data usually required by telegraph and like companies. Similarly7 the form of the reply requested by the sender is applied at a suitable location on the blank 20, similar to that of the sender-s memorandum, and like parts are indicated by like reference characters.
At 23 a suitable legend is applied, giving the information that the replyzmess'age of the form as checked in the column 14: has been paid for by the sender and such other additional information as may be desired. The symbols designated 19 correspond to the aforesaid symbols 19 of the 'blank 10 and other like parts of the blank 20 are indieated by the same reference characters as on the blank 10. The blank 20 is preferably detachably -connected to the blank 10 as by means of the line of perforation 24.
Such dual ,formr of Senders memorandum and Senders message-sending ofce may be printed in the form of a strip 'of indefinite length, each pair of the same being separatedfrom adjacent pairs by a line of perforation similar to the line 211 of perforation. The forni of indefinite number of sets of the dual forms enables the same to be furnished as a roll and adds con venience in typewriting and similar pur poses.
In the use of each set of\blanks such as the blanks 10, 20, or equivalent, Wlenn car bon copy 1s desired, the blank 10 is separated from the blank 20 and a carbon transcribing paper interposed, as in the usualmanner of typewriting carbon copies, thus permitting the sender to have a typed or other written form of the sending message.
It will be understood that the blank l()A is of particular value as a memorandum to the sender, but if desired may be omitted in carrying out'rny invention, and a single blank of the form of blank 20 alone employed.
In Fig. 2, I have indicated a preferred form of reply blank 25 and comprising a dual blank respectively designated Senders message-receivers oflice and Answer. The "Senders messagereceiving ofiice blank 25'e1nbodies the desired space 2G for the typing or other writing by the receiving oliice of the transmitting agency of the senders message. The blank25 is provided with a suitable space 27, preferably in condensed form for the checking of the transmission form of the message sent by the sending party to the receiving party, similar as the aforesaid form12. The blank 25 l preferably embodies also the space 28 bearing a notation that the message has been prepaid.' The notation 29 indicates the city or other location of the receiving, office of the transmitting agency.
The space26may be impressed by background printing in color if preferremwith an indication of Round trip or Return trip or` Radio telegram, indicating a distinction from the usual forms of telegraphic' or like messages. l..
'The blank 25 is provided with acondensed formA of indication 14 corresponding to the aforesaid condensed form 14 of the blank 10 and preferably embodies the column lll 'for indicating a number of words of the answer paid for by the sender` and the column 14 for checking the form of transmission of the reply. The space for'the instruction 15 corresponds to that of the blank 10, and the space for the information 23 corresponclsto the like designated space of the blank 20.
In order to indicate that the nature of "the reply is distinguished from that of the usual or other telegraphic reply, I prefer to apply the symbols 19 such as three stars, preferably colored, or in any other manner in lieu of the aforesaid indication 26 or in addition thereto.
The blank 30 lis for receiving the answer of the receivin0r party and is preferably connected with the blank 25 by detachable means such as the line of perforations 31. 0n the blank 30 appears an indication 14 that the answer has been 4vpaid for, and a preferred form of such space 14 is similarly hereinabove described .relative to blanks 25, 2O and 10; likeparts are designated by like reference numbers.
The blankBO has preferably a further condensed form for receiving the checking by the telegraphic or like agency thatl the answer has been paid for and such other additional data as may be desired; such data is indicated at 13, similarly as in the aforesaid blanks, 10, 20. y
The spa/w32, vwhich may be provided with ruled lines, is for receiving the reply of the answering party. The background printing at the space 32 as is indicated in` F ig. 2, identifies the blank as of the Round trip or LReturn tripif or Radio telegram, in distinction from the ordinary or other telegraphic blank. The symbols 19 on the blank 3()` are similar to the symbols 19 of the aforesaid blanks l0, 2.0 and 25, and for like purposes.
The blank 30 preferably embodies a legend 33 in printed form, preferably in aslsurance of the prepayment by the sender of the answer of the replying party and that the act ot the replying party does not involve any obligation on the expense to the replying party.
It will be observed thatA the blank 3() is delivered by the telegraphic or like agency to the replying party and bears in the space 34 the name and address of the sender, and also the name and address of the replying party inserted in the proper place, thus requiring solely the insertion by the replying party 4ot his answer to the message of the sender. The delivery of the senders message to the replying party, is effected by the delivery of the dual blanks 25, 30'. lVhen the blank Sender-s message-receiving ofhce is torn off along the perforated line 24, the replying party retains the same .and may apply his answer' thereon as his memorandum as by Writing on by type- \vriting with a carbon paper on the reverse side of the blank or in any other manner. The detached blank bearing the reply is immediately taken by the messenger loy for transmission. y
From the above, it Will appeal" that my invention provides for a most Convenient and immediate form of reply by the replying party in answer to 'the ysenders message. My invention also provides a form which is delivered to the replying party and of a character directly suggesting to the replying party that an immediate answer is expeeted by the sender.
My invention is advantageous in verifying the reception of selections or other mes broadcast by radio stations, and provides a Written memorandum for the sender of his message and also the/data of the form of transmission of his message. The reply received from the answering party is also in complete written form.
My invention simplifies greatly the present-day onerous task conf-renting broadcasting statonsby reason of the countless thon-v sands o't telegrams and other forms of letters seekingr verification of reception and the transmittedselections, and' also affords the immediate delivery oli' the verification, all of which jobjects are attained by minimum effe: t of typing or other Writing. "My".
invention also provides the broadcasting Station or otherjreeeiving party with a complete ,record of each senders message, and ofthe name and address of each sender.
The sender of the message, by my invention, obtains an immediate verilicationI ot' his inquiry and in a Written Tprarm.
Vvvhereas, Il have described my invention by reference to specific forms thereof, it Will be understood that many changes and modiiications may be made without departing from the spirit ot the invention.
