AARON HERMANSGN, OF ROCKFORD, ILLINOIS.

Application filed August 21, 1928.
To all wlminit may concern:
Be it known that I, AARON HERMANSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rockford, in the county of Winnebago, State of Illinois, have i vented new and useful Cabinet for Graphophone Records; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention relates to cabinets for grahophone records and has for its object to provide a device of thischaracter, preferably in connection with a graphophone, and comprising a plurality of numbered pockets disposed in a vertical plane and having their open sides upwardly disposed whereby a record may be easily placed or removed from the pockets without the necessity of the operator stooping or kneeling, as is necessary in devices of this character as at present constructed.
A further object is to provide a horizontally disposed index card, having numbers and title spaces registering with the pockets whereby any particular record may be easily and quickly located. Also to provide the records with numbers whereby the rec ord maybe easily placed in the proper pocket without the necessity of reading and locating the title.
With the above and other objects in view the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawing, described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawing Figure 1 is a top planview of a graphophone showing the record cabinet in connection therewith.
Figure 2 is a front elevation of a graphophone showing the record cabinet in vertical section.
Figure 3 is a perspective view of a portion of the index strip member and holder.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates a graphophone of the table type and 2 the casing thereof. Disposed to one side of the casing 2, is a compartment 3 in which is disposed a casing 4 provided with Serial No. 658,564.
a plurality of vertically disposed record receiving pockets 5. The casing 4 is preferably supported by transversely disposed rods 6 which extend through the casing 2 of the graphophone and through the partition 7, forming the pockets 5. It will be seen that when records 8 are disposed in the pockets 5 that one of their sides will extend upwardly above the partition 7 where it can be easily grasped for removing or replacing the records in the pockets. It will also be seen that it will not be necessary for the operator to kneel or stoop in selecting or replacing records as is now the difficulty with record cabinets of the present construction.
Extending transversely of the chamber 3 above the casing 1 are bars 9 to the upper side of one ofwhich bars, preferably one adjacent the turn table 10 of the graphophone is a horizontally disposed channeled member 11, in which channeled member an elongated strip 13 is placed, which strip is provided with a plurality of numbers 14, which register with the pockets 5 and the spaces 15 in which. may be written or printed the name of the record disposed in the adjacent pocket, therefore it will be seen that the operatorrnay easily and quickly select the desired record or replace the same. The records 8 are preferably provided with numbers 16 corresponding to the numbers 14 on the strip 13, consequently it will not be necessary forthe operator, when replacing a record to locatethe same by the name of the particular piece but by the numerals,
consequently the record may be easily returned to its proper pocket. Disposed with in the channelled member 11 above the strip 18 is a transparent strip 17, through which the indicia on the strip 13 may be easily read, and which strip 17- is preferably formed from celluloid.
From the above it will be seen that a record filing case is provided, in connection with a graphophoneand'in whichrecord filing case recordsmay be stored and ea-slly reached and ldentified when it 1s desired to use the same.
The invention having been set forth what is claimed as new and useful is The combination with a graphophone casing, of a record receiving rack carried thereby at one side thereof, said rack comprisinga plurality of vertically disposed pockets having their upper sides open for the reception of records, said poekets being provided with bottoms horizontally dis= posed, upwardly diverging bottom sectionsing a three point bearing for the record and maintaining the same spaeed from the end Walls of the pocket.
