SPOON HOLDER.
Application filed December 20, 1924. Serial No; 757,269.
a To' all whom a: may concern:
Be it known that I, A FRED C. GooKn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hartford, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Spoon Holders, of which the following is a spec1- fication.
My invention relates to improvements in spoon holders, of the form that is used to hold a spoon under various conditions and in different positions, as in conjunction with a tumbler for medicine, or with a cooking utensil, and also for holding one or more spoons when not in use, and the object of my improvement is to produce a spoon holder of relatively simple form, that can be manufactured in an economical manner,
and that, furthermore, is convenient and ef ficient under conditions of use.
In the accompanying draw1ng: Figure 1 is a perspective view of my mproved spoon holder in use for supporting a spoon from the side of a cooking ut-ensll. Figure 2 is a simliar view of a spoon holder of the form that is shown in Fig. 1 as applied to a side-wall andhung from a screw, and showing a plurality of spoons supported thereby.
Figure 3 is a view corresponding to Fig. 1 showing the spoon holder as applied to a tumbler, such as is adapted for use in holding medicine or the like. 1
Figure 4 is a plan view of the spoon holder, on an enlarged scale.
Figure 5 is a front elevation of the same. Figure 6 is a plan view of the blank for the same.
My improved spoon holder is form-ed from a single elongated piece of sheet metal and comprises a pair of downwardly extending arms 10 and 11 that are connected at their upper ends by means of a generally horizontally directed platform 12 of appreciable length, said platform 12 constitutmg the rear end or closed end portion of a forklike structure that has the forwardly directed arms 13. Said arms 13 merge by their rear ends with the platform 12 and extend forwardly so as to overhang the interior space of the supporting vessel or tumbler or other supporting structure of like character and said arms 13 may be curved or generally inclined to facilitate the holding of the spoon under conditions of use.
Said arms 13 are separated by the space 14 and said space is formed or provided in the operation on theblank for forming the arm 10, which may be designed as the front or inner arm and which is entered. on the inner side of the supporting wall. The arm 11 is on the rear or outer side of said wall. The lower ends of the arms 10 and 11 tend to close together so as to pinch the sup porting wall and provide a clamping effect, the arms 10 and 11 operating as spring arms. j a a The holder described is adapted to be supported from a side wall by means'of the outer arm 11, which-latter is provided with an opening 15 for engaging with the supporting screw or the like. The inner arm '10 is provided with a finding hole 16 in registration with the hole 15 for admitting a screw-driver to the supporting screw so that the holder may be positively secured to the side wall 26.
In the blank the shear-cuts 17 serve to define the boundaries of the front or inner clamping arm 10 and the two spoon supporting fork arms 13. Saidshear-cuts are substantially straight and parallel for the major part. As shown, however, adjacent the junctions of said arms with the connecting platform 12 there are slight semi-circular deviations 18 forming notches in the opposed edges 27 of the fork arms 13. Said notches admit the outwardly flaring portion 28 of the spoon at the junction of the bowl 20 and the shank 21, thus serving to determine the position of engagement of the spoon with the fork arms 13 when the holder is used with a tumbler or vessel, the walls of said notches serving as fulcrums for the spoon. Inthe structure shown in Fig. 1 the shank 21 extends across the platform 12 and the bowl 20 is tilted upwardly by reason of the excess in weight thereover of the combine-d weight of the shank 21- and the spoon handle 19.
The lower end portions 29 of the clamping arms 10 and 11 engage the wall structure 30 of the vessel or' pan 31 appreciably below the top edge 32 and in the preferred holding position the platform 12 rests upon the said top edge 32.
The shank 21 is narrower than the bowl 20 and than the handle 19 and the space 14 between the arms 13 is such as to admit said shank freely to stop the bowl and handle, .so that the holder is ada ted to hold and support a; spoon 32-? from eit er end of the latter. d
When hung from the Wall-the holder is adapted to serve as a hanger for a plurality of spoons 33 and these may be hung from either the handle end or from thebowl.
What I claim as myinvention is Aspoon holder made of sheetmeml, comprising a platform, of appreciable length for resting on the top edge of a supporting vessel and inner and outer clamping fingers depending from the inner and outer edges oi sai-d platform, a pair of spaced fork arms extended inwardl and in the same plane from the inner -ge '01 said platform and spaced apart for admitting the shank of a spoon, mating recesses 0r notches in the botmdery wallsof, the space between said arms for receiving the bowl portion of said spoon, and said recesses or notches being a spaced .1nwardly from said lnner edge of the platform, whereby with a spoon-bowl engaged with said recesses or notches and serving as a fulcrum for the spoon the shank portion of the spoon Will be adapted to contact with the outer edge of the platform.
