ing of confections and more especially serves to provide simple, economical and eicient means for marketing boxes of mixed confections, such for example as as- A sorted chocolates.

Assorted chocolates are usually sold in boxes wherein are packed widely varying kinds of candy individually retained incorrugated paper cups. To the average purchaser opening such a box, it is impossible to determine by looking at the candies the character of each or the ditl'erent flavors embodied therein. Inasmuch as certain persons have a marked liking for certain flavors or kinds of candy and a pronounced dislike for others, which may perhaps be included in the same box, it is the widespread practice particularly among the ladies to either sample such candies and discard those not wanted or to squeeze the confections until the chocolate shell is broken and the contents may be observed. Under present practice, there is absolutely no way of ascertaining particular kinds of candy by looking at the exterior thereof. It is true that some kinds of candy may be readily identified but in a box of assorted chocolates it is practically impossible for thel observer to know what lies beneath,l the chocolate coating of the particular candies.

With these considerations in mind, the object of the present invention is to provide simple and efficient means whereby the pur. chaser of a box of assorted chocolates can readily ascertain before opening the box what the box contains and upon viewing the contents of the box accurately determine lthe character of the particular candies at a glance.

In the preferred manner of carrylng out the present invention, the candies are packed in the box in individual corrugated -paper Icups or similar individual containers and each individual container bears a letter or number. Preferably printed on the cover of the box although it may be contained on a slip of paper beneath the cover is an index comprsmg a list of these numbers or letters and opposite each of these numbers or letters is the name of the confection positioned within the container bearing that identifying character. For example, the containers of each of the chocolate creams in the box might be numbered l, while on the cover and opposite the numeral l would be found the words chocolate creams. Other kinds of candy may be similarly iden- .titied by number on the general index which not only( facilitates the choice of particular y candies,'but also serves as a catalog of the contents of the box.

Through the employment of lthis invention one wishing to obtain a particular confection may, consult the index on the cover and thereafter choose the candy in a container before the corresponding number or letter. y

Features of the invention, other. than those specified, will be apparent from the hereinafter detailed descriptions and claims, when read in conjunction with the accom? pany-ing drawings.

The accompanying drawings illustrate one practical embodiment of the invention, but the construct-ion therein shown, is to be understood as illustrative, only, and not as defining the limits of the invention. r

The drawing shows, in perspective, a box of assorted chocol-ates with the cover lifted so that the top of the cover as well as the interior of the box lmay be seen. In the interand4 configuration as these characteristics constitute no part of the present invention.

Within the base of the box are packed a plurality of candies designated 3 and each is individually packed within an individual cup or container 4 such as kare commonin the packagingof candy. Only corrugated paper cups are shown. On each cup is printed or otherwise delineated a letter such as A, B, C or D and duringthe packaging of the candies care is taken to place candies of the same kind within correspondingly marked containers. y

On the cover of the box or contained on a sheet adapted'to be placed in a box, these various characters A, B, C orD, etc. are listed and opposite. each is printed the kind of tlie cover beside the letter A. All the cups fare not eaten. however 'a chocolate which is not Wanted byl marked B may contain maple Walnut Within 'chocolate coating. This yshould be printed beside the letter B on the cover and so on throughout the several letters printed on the cover of the box so that/anyone picking, up a container from the box may, by reference to the character noted thereon, and to the index on theI cover ascertain at once, the kind of candy contained in the cup.

It will be apparent from the foregoing detailed description that the index on the cover not only serves to slioW before opening the box exactly what the box contains, from the standpointof flavors, but also enables the ultimate purchaser to choose with ease those flavors which particularly appeal to her.

It is the common practice for persons to squeeze or bite into chocolates to determine their contents and unless the chocolate thus sampled is the one desired itv is discarded so that a large percentage of chocolates sold By the present` invention one person and is thus passed over is left in its original condition for some else who may care for this particular flavor.

The drawings show the preferred embodimentof the invention but the invention is to 'oe understood as fully commensurate with the appended claims.

` Having thus fully described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is f l. The combination With a box of a plurality of different candies contained Within the box and packed in Separate and distinct individual containers, said candies having fillings of dii'erent characteristics concealed in them, an identifying character on each container, and an index to the contents of the box comprising a list of said characters with which are associated the names of the corresponding kinds of candy.

2. The combination With a box, a plurality of candies in the box -andpacked in individual containers, said candies having lillings of different characteristics concealed in them, an identifying character on each container, said candies being packed so that containers bearing any particular identifying character contain the same kind of confection, and an index tothe contents of the box comprising a list of said characters and opposite each a designation of the kind of candy to be found in the containers so marked. y
