Be it known. that we, HENRY S. JnwnLr, and Fannnnron C. JnwnLL, citizens of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cool: and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Coin-Controlled Vending lllechanisms, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to machines for vending merchandise, such as boxes of safety matches, chewing gum and the like, the same being stacked in the machine and ejected therefrom by a coin controlled mecha' nism, the primary object of the invention bcing to provide a novel and improved coin controlled vending mechanism which is operable only upon the deposit of the proper coin token and which is provided with a means to prevent recovery of suoli coin or token after a partial actuation of the mechanism.
A further object of the invention is the provision with a machine of this kind of an improved vending device whereby removal of the merchandise from the machine is prevented eXcept upon deposit of the proper coin.
A still further object of the invention is to furnish a vending mechanism which is relatively simple in construction, highly eiicient and positive in operation, and which will loe strong and durable.

Coming now to the vending mechanism and referring particularly to Figs. 2 and 4, it will be noted that the plate 9 is provided with a plurality of longitudinal recesses 10 in its rear edge extending a substantial distance toward the front of the machineand in each of which, one unit of the actuating and delivering portion of the mechanism slides, this portion of the mechanism comprising a push bar 1l of flat sheet metal eX- tending forwardly beneath the bottom'surface of the baseplate 9and the rear end of which is vertically offset as shown at 12, so that the side edges of such offset portion will slide in the recess 10 of the plate 9.. Upon this vertically offset portion l2 of the push bar 11 is mounted a match box delivering device A, or a chewing gum delivering device B as the case requires, it being noted that the forwardly vextending portions of they delivery devicesA and B extend beyond the vertically offset portion l2 and above the plate 9 as best illustrated in Figs. 3 and 4, this construction serving to hold the push bar 11 and the delivery devices in sliding engagement with the plate 9. Referring to `F ig. l it will be seen that the match boX delivery device is provided with an offset rearward extension A1, the function of which is to support the stack of boxes whcnthe delivery device is in its normal or partially eX- tended position as shown in the drawing. The forward portion of the delivery device A terminates in vertical lingers A2, the purpose of which is to prevent unauthorized removal of the boxes after the vending device has receded within tlie channeled receiver. It will be evident that upon pushing the push baril the delivery device A will be carried within the channeled receiver 6 and the end of the supporting plate27 and has.
dropped therefrom into the coin receptacle 8. From the foregoing description read 1n connection with the accompanying drawings it is thought that the novel features and advantages of our invention will be readily appreciated.
In accordance with the patent statutes we have illustrated our invention in concrete form. and described it as operating in a specified manner, but it will be distinctly understood that `we do not intend to limit our-I selves strictly thereto, since various changes will suggest themselves to those skilled in the art without departing from the spiritof the invention, the scope of which is defined by the following claims.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is l. Acoin-controlled mechanism comprising a supporting member having a coin'reeeiving slot, a slidable bar beneath said sup-k porting member, a coinreceiver and carrier movable with and rigidly secured to the under side of said bar and adapted for registration with said slot, an arm pivotally supported beneath said bar land having a coin supporting member beneath said coin receiver and carrier to hold the coin in said carrier during a portion of the movement of said bar, said arm being provided with ratchet teeth, and a lug on said bar to engage said teeth, said arm being provided with a coin engaged cam surface whereby the arm is swung onits pivot during the movement of the bar in one direction.

A coin-controlled mechanism comprising a supporting member having a coin receiving slot, a slidable bar beneath said supporting member, a coin receiver and carrier movable with and rigidly secured to the under side of said bar and adapted for registration with said slot, an arm pivotally supported beneath said bar and having :1, coin supporting member beneath said coin receiver' and carrier to hold the coin in saidV carrier duiing a portion ofthe movement of said bar, said army being provided with ratchet teeth, a lug on said bar to engage said teeth, said arm being provided with a coin engaged cam surface whereby the arm is 'swung on its pivotv during the movement of the bar in one direction, said arm being provided with a second set of ratchet teeth engaged by the coin during its movement on said coin supporting member, a strap secured to said bar and having its ends extended beyond the bar into engagement with said supporting member, and springs connected to the ends of said strap and urging the bar outwardly.

Acoin-controlled mechanism comprising a supporting member having a coin receiving slot, a slidable bar beneath said supporting member, a coil receiver and carrierV rigidly connected to the under side of said bar and having its lower endand one, side open whereby a coin positioned in the receiver and carrier willextend beyond one side of the same, an arm pivot-ally supported beneath said bar and having a coin engaged cam surface, said arm also being provided with a coin supporting member' located beneath said coin receiver andl carrier to hold the coin in said carrier during a portion of the movement of said bar, said arm being provided with ratchet teeth .adapted for engagement by said coin, and a lug on said bar, said arm being provide-d with a second set of teeth forengagement by said lum,

A coin-controlled mechanism comprising a supporting member havingv a coin receiving slot, a slidable bar beneath said support-ing member, a coin` receiver and carrier rigidly connected to the under side of said bar and having its low-er end and one side open whereby a coin positioned in the receiver and carrier will extend beyond one side of the same, an arm pivotally supported beneath said bar and having a coin engaged cam surface, said arm also being provided with a coin supporting member located bel neath said coin receiver and carrier to hold the coin in said carrier during a portion of the movement of said bar, said arm being provided with ratchet teeth adapted for engagement by said coin, a lug on said bar, said arm being provided with a second set of teeth for engagement by said lug, and a bar guiding means carried by said supporting member and engaged by said lug to limitthe outward movement of said bar.
8. In a check controlled apparatus, a sliding member supported for sliding movement, a second member supported for swinging movement and positioned adjacent the.
