Description

March 9 1926- F. O. ANDERSON FOUNTAIN BRUSH Filed June 30, 1925 Patented Mar. 9, 1926.
UNITI-:D STATES FRED OLIVIER ANDERSON, F MINNEAPOLIS, MINi'NESOTA.
FOUNTAIN BRUSH.
Application lilled June 30, 1923. Serial Fo. 648,791.
T o all whom it may conce/vt:
Be it known that I, Fuso OLIVER ANDER- soN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Minneapolis, in the county of Hennepin and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fountain Brushes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to brushes and the main object is to provide a simple, efiicient and practical construction of fountain brush, particularly adaptable for washing and cleaning automobiles. Further objects will be disclosed in the course of the fol- `l5 lowing specification, `the invention being embodied in the structure shown in the accompanying drawing, wherein:-
Fig. l is a plan view of the device. Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation, as seen on the 1in@ 2 2 in Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawing by reference characters, A designates a nozzle which, under ordinary circumstances, is secured to the end of a water hose B. In the application of my device to the hose, however, a hollow handle C, having male and female end threads corres onding to those of the nozzle and hose coup ing, is interposed and rigidly secured between the nozzle and the hose.
the sides of the nozzle A are secured the ends of a wire D; consisting of a pair of twisted strands between which are secured bristles E, forming the brush element. The rear ends of the wire D are preferably bent so as to offset the rear portion of the brushv slightly above the center of the nozzle A, While the curved front portion of the brush is bent, as at F, under and back, so that the body of the brush will be bifurcated, as
indicated in Fig. 1.
The use and operation of the device may be briefly described as follows:
If 4a straight stream of water is desired the nozzle A is adjusted so that the y,Water will pass out between the arms of the brush. If the brush is to be fed or supplied with the water, however, the nozzle is adjusted so that it will feed the water in a conical spray, in the usual manner as when watering a lawn or garden. In this event the water will strike the brush, which is then moved over the body of the car, thus thor- In the outer end of the handle C and at oughly cleaning it. VThe (peculiar shape of.
the brush, above describe enables theoperator to easily and quicklyI clean the spokes of the wheels and many other-parts of the car without permitting any metallic portion of the device to come in contact with or scratch the surface thereof.
It is understood that suitable modifications may be made in the general design or structural details of the device, as herein disclosed, provided, however, that such modifications come within the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
Having now, therefore, full shown and described my invention, what claim to be new and desire to protectby Letters Pat ent is: v
1. In a device of the lclass described, a handle, a bristle carrying core having both ends thereof secured to the handle, the body `of the core being bent into two Icontinuously formed substantially U-shaped portions, said portions being arranged in spaced opposed relation so as to form an opening between the four arms thereof.
2. A device of the character described consisting of a suitable handle, a cleaning meml ber comprising .an .elongated core formed into a pair of U-shaped portions arranged in spaced opposed relation so as to form an opening between the four arms thereof, means for securing one leg of each of said portions to the handle, the other legs of said portions continuing integrally into each other so that the cleaning member will be substantially hook shaped. i
3. In a device of the class described, a handle, a bristle carrying core havingl its ends anchored in the handle, said core being formed, intermediate its ends, into spaced, opposed, U-shapedloops.
4. The combinationwith a suitable handle and a nozzle secured thereto, of a cleaningl member secured to the handle and rojecting beyond the nozzle,.the outer en of said cleaning member being bent back in s aced substantially parallel relation with tiie main portion thereof, so as to form a hooked element for cleaning engagement behind car wheel spokes and the like.
In testimony whereof I aix by signature.
FRED OLIVER ANDERSN.
