CHARLES BILLMEYER, OF YORK, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN CAR-AXLE-BOX SUPPORTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 157.569, dated December 8, 1874; application filed November 4, 1874.
Be it known that I, CHARLES BILLMEYER, of the town and county of York and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Mounting Oar Truck Frames; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a side elevation. Fig. 2 is an end view.
The invention relates to that class of trucks which are intended for narrow-gage roads, and which are let down as respects theaxle-boxes and the load, so as to prevent the center of gravity, on a tilt, from passing outside the rails, and thus the cars from being easily overturned.
A represents an axle-box, and B a longitudinal beam, upon which the car-body rests. This bar B, in narrow-gage cars, is usually attached at each end to a single pin between lugs, which are cast solid with the boxes, and sometimes re-enforced by a wrought metal strap that passes around them.

I avoid this difticnlty by forming a yoke, G, which, fitting closely over the axle-box A between flanges a a, hastWo pairs of eyes, 0 c, that register with two correspondin g eyes, I) b, in the longitudinal bar B, receive the pin D on each side of axle-box, and no matter in what direction the car moves there will be no tendency of the boxes to tilt and bind in their housing. Moreover, having the longitudinal bar connected to the yokes at two points, instead of one point only, gives greater strength with the same size bar, and also greater security against accident 5 and, besides, enables the boxes to be more easily removed or replaced by others when necessary.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is The combination of the longitudinal bar B below the axle, and having two eyes, b b, the yoke 0, having the two pairs of eyes 0 c, and the two bolts D D, applied as and for the purpose specified.
