Be it known that I, PHILIP J. SONNE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Moline, in the county .of Elk and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gas Burners, of which the followingis-aspecification referring to the accompanying drawings, which form a part thereof.
The invention rela-tes to an im roved gas burner mechanism especially a apted for use under heavy pressures as well as under light pressures. Pressures of' 15 to 2O pounds arequite customary in industrial uses, such for instance 'as in refineries and the like; by simple changes in adjustment, my device 1s readily adapted for use in domestic establishments where pressures may approximate three to four ounces.' I do not limit my invention to any particular pressure standard however, the foregoing being merely for pur oses of illustration.

Referring to the drawings; from the gas main pipe 10 are shown a plurality of gas pipes 10', 10"-, 10', 10 connected thereto,
each serving a plurality of individual gas burner elements supported thereon as later explained. U on a gas pipe 10 for instance is seen a brac et 11 which includes a sleeve ipe 10' and ad- ]ustably spaced and secureld thereupon by means of the screw 12. Mounted upon the bracket arms 11 above the pipe 10 is a square or rectangular box-like element 13 secured b screws 14 to said bracket members. This elbment 13 is open at the top; it is preferably cast of iron or other suitable material so as to provide four complete side walls and a base member 15. vertically cast and centrally arranged Within the box-like member 13 is a tube-like cylinder section 16 extending more above than below the base 15 as seen in Fig. 5.. A port inthe pipe 10 at 1.7 is arranged in the vertical axis of the tube 16 during the adjustable assemblage. The bracket 11x may' be perforated at 17. if said bracket happens to cover a port 17. The space 18 between the base of the tube 16 and the port 17 allows for air to mix withthe gas coming from the supply pipe. `The four inner corners of the member 13 are rounded and form column supports 19 extending 'upwardly to a-point 2() below the upper edge 21 of the member 13. A cover element includes 'four upwardly Haring side elementsy of the tube 16 is spaced a desired distance below the centrall portion 26 of the cover while the. base 28 is spaced a required distance above the bottom 15 of the member 13.
In Fig. 4 will be noted four slots or gap' spacings cast along the edges of the cover element at 29, 30, 31 and 32. At 33 and 34 are seen lugs cast upon the element 13 while companion lugs 35 and 36 are cast on said element upon or adjacent to the other pair of lower corners thereof. In Figs. 1 and 2 the grooves 37 and 38 of the lugs 35 and 36 engage the lugs 33 and 34 of another burner element while screws 39 penetrating the lu 35 and 36 engage threaded holes 40 in t e connecting lugs 33 and 34 as will be readily understood. This anchors the series of boxlike elements 13 a spaced distance 41 apart.

Having fully described nl y invention what l now claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

In gas burners, a box-like element including four side members and a bottom member but open at tlietop, a tubular element centrally and vertically arranged as a part of the bottom of said box-like element and extending above and below said bottoni; post elements one for each corner of said box-like element; a cover element having a depressed central portion and upwardly and outwardly daring edge portions supported by said post elements; gap spacings as gas orifices between the edges of the cover element and the top edge portions of the four sided element; an inverted box-like element integral with the base of said cover element arranged above the tubular portion of the first mentioned box-like element.
2. In gas burners; a. gas main, a port -therein; a bracket carried by the gas main,

3. in gas burners a series of unit devices spaced apart and rigidly secured to each other; each unit device including a foursided box-like element open at the top having a tubular element centrally arranged through the bottom thereof; a bracket supporting each device; a gas main supporting each bracket; a port in the main directly beneath the tubular element; posts in the corners of each unit; a cover supported upon said posts; gap spacings along the side edges of said covers as gas orifices and a depending inverted four sided element integra-l with the base of each cover arranged above the tubular element.
