Description

UNITED STATES 4PATENT OFFICE.
SYLVESTER CROLL, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF HIS RIGHT TO WALTER D. STONE, OF SAME PLACE.
lMPRovEMENT IN HAME-BELL HoLDERs.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 157,498, dated December 8, 1874; application led November 12, 1874.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, SYLvEsTER CnoLL, of the city and county of Philadelphia, in the State of Pennsylvania, have invented a Stationary Hanne-Bell Holder, of which the following is a specification:
My invention relates to providin g the bellholder with a pair of coupling-jaws, which are drawn tightly upon opposite edges of the hame by means 0f screw-bolts. have flanges or lips, which lap over the opposite sides of the hame to prevent lateral movement of the jaws. The corners of the hame are cut away to receive the lips, so as to bring the edges of the flanges even with the sides of the hame; and portions of the lips and corresponding parts ofthe edges of the hame are cut away to form slots to receive the straps, as hereinafter described.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a side elevation of the bell-holder A and the upper end of the hame B, the bell C being in vided with flanges or lips C, which t in the The jaws opposite flat sides d d of the hame to prevent any lateral movement ot' the jaws, the edges of the latter making a finish with the sides of the hame, as seen in Fig. 2. Theflips c of the jaws a a, and corresponding portions of the edges b b of the hame, are recessed or cut away to form slots :o for the reception of the straps. D is a screw-bolt, which 'is passed through one of the jaws a and the hame B, and is screwed into the opposite jaw, which is increasedin thickness at that point to receive it. When the screw-bolt D is tightly drawn the clamping-jaws et ct confine the holder very firmly to the hame. E is the rein-ring, having` a swivel-pin, e, connected with the head f of the bolt D. The ring serves also the purpose of manipulating the screw-bolt D for connecting the holder with the hame or tightenin g it when required.
I- claim as my invention- The bell-holder A, having jaws t a, provided with anges or lips C, in combination with the hame ,B and screw-bolt D, the lips c of the jaws a and edges b of the hame, having recesses which form slots x for the straps, substantially in the manner and for the purpose above described.
