Be it known that I, HERBERT BEAUMONT DAY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Detroit, inthe county vof llVayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Turret-Tool I-Iolders, of which the following is a specification. I
This invention is an improvement 1n turret tool holders. i
An object of this invention is to provide a turret tool holder so designed and constructed as to hold a plurality of standard tool bits, ground for different operations by the operator, and to permit accurate and quick presentation of the tools tothe work in their proper order.-
With thisy and other objects in view, as will appear as the description proceeds, this invention consists of the novel features of construction, combinations of elements and arrangements of parts hereinafter to be fully described and claimed.
A full and complete understandingof the invention may be obtained from a consideration of the following detailed description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification,

In the specific embodiment of the invention illustrated in the accompanying draw-- ing, the numeral 1 indicates a supporting metallic shank which may be either supportedupon the carriage of a lathe or be formedas an integral part thereof. rl`he upper vertically extending portion 2 of the vShank 1 is substantially cylindrical andis provided centrally ofone of its faces with a recess 3 vand an aperture l extending from the center of the recess to the opposite face.

Extending from the inner portion of the turret are a plurality of square apertures 1() for receiving standard lathe tool bits 11 which have been ground for different opera tions by the operator. These bits areheld in position by set screws'12 screwed in from `the periphery of the turret and engaging the tool. The outer surface 13 is knurled from its outer edge for part of the radial distance toits inner edge to permit easy ro tation of the turret by hand but has the portion thereof that is overlapped by the head 14 of the bolt 9 smooth to prevent scoring of the under face of the bolt head land to permit facile rotation of the turret 5 when the nut 15 on the threaded end 16 of the bolt has been loosened. p

The operator then rotates ythe ,turret in arci/.elise direction until the shoulder of the ipin 17 engages the slrioulder ot the appropriate' tooth 23 and prevents Vtiuxther rotation thereof.l The nut zrnrly in lits position.

The vcombination with a supporting shank having a substantially cylindrical portion recessed onone of its faces and apertured centrally Aof said recess, of a turret having means for 'supporting a plurality ot radially extending tools, a lratchet plate rigidly secured to the .turret and l,disposed within the said recess, a bushing traversing said turret and plate, a bolt traversing v said bushing and shank with its head', in engagement With t-he outer face of ysaid turret, a nut threaded on .the bolt for maintaining the parts in assembled relation, means preventing rotation of said bolt with respect to Asaid shank, .and means permitting rotation .of the turret in tone direction and preventing continued retation in ,theopposite direction.
