PRINTING-PRESS ATTACHMENT.
Application filed December 4, 1924. Serial No. 753,884.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ELTJAH GUY Mrovnn, a resident of Independence, in the county of Montgomery and State of Kansas, a citizen of the United States, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Printing-Press Attachments, of which the follow- 1 ing is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in printing-press attachments, and refers particularly to an attachment for perforating the paper while it is being printed, or in its passage from the paper feeding cylinder of a printing press, although the use of my attachment is not limited to a printing press,
as the improvement might beused efi'ectively and practically upon other classes of machines.
()ne object of my invention is the provision of an attachment which may be applied with ease and facility and which will perform the perforating operation ina perfect manner as the paper is fed from the roll, or being printed.
Another object of my invention is the provision of an attachment which will hold the paper in proper place against the surface of the roll to insure perfect and aligned perforation.
Another object of my invention is the provision of an attachment which can be instantly adjusted to suit conditions and which will make a single perforation, or by the use of a number of perforating members, make a series of lines of perforations.
Another object of my invention is the provision of a machine of the character stated which will be composed of few parts to insure simplicity, durability and strength; which will not occupy much space; which can be made at a very low price, and which generally will have all the requisites to insure a practical, desirable and eliicient attachment for the purpose intended.
With these objects in view my invention consists of a perforating attachment embodying novel features of construction and combination of parts for service, substan tially as described and claimed herein, and 50 as shown in the accompanying drawings, in
which:

The numeral l designates a portion of the paper feeding roll or impression cylinder of a printing press carrying the paper 2, which is to be perforated, although the attachment may be used in any situation where it would perform its functions in an eflicient manner.
The attachment is applied to the machine at the desired location by means of the screws 3, on the arms 4, of the frame 5, which carries the extensions 6, formed at their inner ends with the inclined seats 7, for the inner brush carrying frame 8, having mounted rigidly therein the series of brushes 9, adapted to bear against the paper. The said extensions 6, are further provided with the intermediate angular bearings 10, for the angular boxes 11, in which is mounted the shaft 12, carrying at each end a roller 18, which receive rotation from a driving friction wheel 14, and said shaft has adjustably disposed thereon the toothed perforating wheel 15, which cuts a line of perforations on the paper, and is held against the paper by means of the springs 16, which are seated in bearing 10, and en gage the boxes 11, as shown in Figure 3.
To the outer face of the extensions 6, is secured by fastenings 17 the under kerfed rail 18, in which fit the hooked lower ends 100 19, of the brush holding members 19, carrying the brushes 20, and said brush holding members are secured at any desired longitudinal place upon said rail by headed thumb adjusting fastenings 2-1, as most 105 clearly found in Figure 2.
It will be noted that the attachment can be easily and cheaply applied and will prove a great time and labor saving device and will prove highly eflicient and practical.

2. In combination with a paper carrying roller and the paper thereon, a frame arranged adjacent to said roller, a series of brushes bearing on said paper, and a perforating mechanism carried by said frame and disposed between said brushes, said perforating mechanism-being adjustable and resilient with reference tothe paperholding brushes.
8. The attachment herein described, consisting of a frame adapted to be applied adjacent the paper feeding roller and its.
charge of paper, a brush holding head secured in said frame and carrying brushes, a rail secured-to the frame, a series of brush holding elements adjustably mounted on said rail, brushes in said elements, a shaft mounted in cushioned relationto said roller and paper and between said brushes, and perforating means on said shaft.
f. Incombination with a paper supporting means, a. frame arranged parallel therewith, a series of brushes mounted in the frame, and a perforating means carried by the frame and arranged between said series of brushes, said perforating means being resiliently mounted in the frame.
5. In combination with a paper supporting means, a frame arranged parallel therewith, a series of brushes mounted in the frame, and a perforating means carried by the frame and arranged between said series of brushes, said perforating means being adjustable in its mounting.
6. In combination with a paper supporting means, a frame, brushes carried by said frame, a shaft bearing in said frame between the brushes, a roller carried by said shaft, a roller in frictional engagement with said roller to impart rotation to said shaft, and perforating means carried by said shaft.
7. In combination with a paper supporting means, a frame, brush holding means carried by said frame, brushes carried by said holding means and an adjustable perforating means resiliently mounted between said brush holding means.
