israel-3 HARRY FIRMAN, or woe-DHAVEN, NEW "rome LAMP .SI-IADE.
Application led April 25, 1923. Serial No. 634,564. i
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, HARRY F msnm, a citizen of the United States, residing at lVoodhaven, L. I., in the county of Queens and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Lamp Shades, of which the following is a specilication.
This invention relates to lamp shades.
Some of the objects of the present invention are to produce a lamp shade which is especially adapted for use in connection with electric lamps for a full or effective distribution of the light emitted by the lam) or lamfos with which it is associated' to produce a lamp shade which is so constructed as to be attractive in appearance and one which not only reflects the light rays but which also permits livht to pass through portions thereof; to produce a lamp shade which comprises a frame stamped, benjt and formeel from a single piece of material, and translucent panels arranged on the frame in inclined and circumferential relationship by virtuecf the r construction, of the panels and the frame',
the latter having attaching means for attaching the lamp shade; to produce a lamp shade including a frame having means for attaching the lamp shade and means for eiiecting the attachment of a lamp globe or the like; and with these and other ob -jects in view the invention resides in the particular provision, relative disposition, and functions of the parts hereinafter fully described and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a plan view of the lamp `shade embodying the features of the present invention.
Figure 2 is a sectional View taken on the annular members 13 and 14 concentrically arranged with respect to each other and to the rim 12. The rim 12 has an upturned annular portion 15. The rim 12 and the `annular member 13 are joined by radially disposed members 16 which are spaced equidistantly and each of which is reinforced by a bead 17 to give strength thereto. The members 16 are disposed at an angle. The members 13 and 14 are separated by an, intermediate top having holes 19 therein for the circulation of air therethrough.
The panels 11 are made of glass and are translucent. Each of the panels is in the form of a trapezoid and curved. In the present instance live panels are employed and are arranged on the members 15 and are held in place by clips 2O on the member 16 and clips 21 on the rim 12. Each of the clips 20 has bendable portions 22 which engage the edges of adjacent panels, whereas,
each clip 21 is bendable and engages one edge of its related panel. rFliese clips 2O and 21 serve to hold the panel in vplace in circumferential relationship, and by virtue of the inclination of the members 1.6 of the said panel 11 will also be inclined.
In order that the lamp shade may be attached to a lamp fixture the member 14e is provided with a ring 23 attached to the member 141 as at 24 and the free terminals of the ring 23`which extend through an. opening in the member 14 carry a binding screw 25 by virtue of which clamping action may be set up in the ring 23. In order that an ornamental globe or the like may be held in place associated with said lamp shade and about the lamp there is provided Sis set screws which are carried by the members From the foregoing it will be manifest that there has been described a lamp shade whose features of construction are simple and which embodies means in the form of panels 11 for effectively distributing the light in the room by partly reflecting the light downwardly and at the saine time admitting light through the panels to illuminate above the shade; and one which may be associated with one or more electric lamps or a single lamp ttedwith an ornamental globe or the like to make an artistic and .novel etfect and .et the seele time having utility.
lll() What is claimed is:
A lamp shade comprising a frame forni/ed of an annular inclined rim, an annular rim of e larger diameter having an upturned Viiangedisposed below said annular inclined rim, radial extending downwardly inclined members connecting said rims, translucent panels of curved trapezoidal pattern'sup-A ported by said rims and having their meetl ing edges overlying said members, and bend- 10 able clips carried by said members for engagementv With the meetings edges of said panels.
In testimony whereof I have atlixed my signature.
