Application filed June 1, 1923. Serial No; 642,728.
To all whom @'15 may concern.'
` Be it known that l, CLARE H. BULLEN, a citizen of the ,United States, and a resident ofthe city of Fortland, in the county of hllnltnoinah .and State of Oregon.) have invented certain new and useful lmprovements in Apparatus for Making Concrete Pipe, of which thefollowing is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in concrete pipe 'making machines.
The obj-ect of the present invention is the provisionof .a machine of .the class described including` a revolving table upon which the concrete pipe is molded havingq improved and simple means for securing .a mold thereto that may be quickly and readily .adjusted tok accommodate the various sia-es of molds when a change of molds is made.
A `further object of the invention is the provision of means to support a' concrete pipe mold in spaced relation above a table with which the mold is revolved, the palette elementof the mold being provided with supporting; legs so that accidental obstructions on .the table will not affect the vertical alignment of the mold'and when removed therefrom the green pipe will be maintained duringv the setting period upon a level support.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of devices for preventing the lode-ement. of cement material in the openings necessarily provided in the revolving table and accessories thereof.
A still further object of the invention is .to provide means to compensate for any wear or distortion of the mold-base through continued use .or accidental damage whereby the mold walls may be aligned vertically and maintained concentric withthe cent-ral core to ensure that the pipe walls will be symmetrical and of even thickness.
lith the above and other objects in view, which will appear in the course of the succeeding specification, the invention consists in the novel construction of a concrete pipe making machine table, the mold and palette therefor, and the combination and adaptation therewith of novel meansand devices for acoomplishing` the objects and advantages above set forth', and hereinafter eX- plained, as will be fully described in the following specification, illustrated in the .in section, of the forward Itable to an `en-d wall 2l in accompanying drawings, and finally pointed out 1n the appended claims.
ln the accompanying drawings: Figure l is a view inside elevation, partly part of a pipe-l forming machine illustrating my invention. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the revolt/.able mold-carrying` table and inoldthereon.
Figi. 3 through the line 3 3 ofllig. 2.
Fig. 4; is of a detail of said table-.and mold securing' devices.
Fig. 5 is a view in section on lirico-5 of Fig. 4.
, Fig.V 6 is an underside `rperspective View of a palette element of the invention."
Referring to said views, in which similar characters of reference indicate like parts in several views, the reference numeral l0 in'- v dicates .a base serving .as 4a support for the entire pipe-making machine of vwhich the .framevstandard ll thereof issh-own.v Rigrdly mounted upon one end of said base is a kcircular pedestal l2 upon which a circular Vtable 13 is supported concentrically to ro-y tate in a horizontal plane. fA circularbeveltoothed rack l5 is formed or pro-vided upon a fragmentary top plan vii-ew- Yso is an enlarged y sectional Vview f the underside of ,said table with which a pinion lo keyed upon the end of a drive shaft 17 operatively engages to rotate sai-d table in the direction indicated bythe arrow in Fig?. 2.
` Said table has a plane upper surface 18 and is formed with a plurality7 preferably four, of inverted T-sh-aped slots "20 extending radially from the outer periphery of the proximity tothe axis .of said table.
A bar 22 is arranged to engage in each said slot and is formed of fT-configuration in cross-section with its lateral walls in close sliding lit with the corresponding walls of the slot while its upper face23 is depressed below the plane of said table and a clearance is provided at 25 between its underside and the bottom of said slot. Eachsaid bar is formed' with a plurality tapped holes 26 extending vertically therethrough and each said hole is provided with .a screw-threaded plug 27 to close the upper ends thereof against entrance of ceinent or other foreign matter.
of equally spaced l A block7 indicated'generally by the nudirt or cement material spilling on the table may accumulate without adversely affecting the .set or operative position of the mold as mightotherwise be the 'case if the mold sat directly upon the table.
Furthermore, as the palette is left under the pipe when the latter is removed to the curing room to set it acts as a support and protection therefor and due to its triple legs it will always rest evenly on the floor and support the pipe in erect position regardless of accidental unevennesses therein. Ow ing to the elevation ont the palette upon the legs 52 the mold n ay be more readily removed and with less danger of injury to the pipe. The clamps holding the pipe mold sections together are loosened and the mold will then drop vertically tothe floor the slight distance the mold-base is elevated above the floor by said legs 52 and thereby break the .suction between the mold wall and the wet pipe whereupon the mold sections V may be taken away without danger to the pipe. Y
Having described my invention, what I claim is l l. In a machine of the class described, a rotatable table having a plurality of radially directed slots therein, a bar slidably mounted in each said slot provided with a plurality of tapped holes spaced along its length, and a mold-supporting block provided with means 'co-operating with lsaid bar-holes for clamping said block to the table.
2. ln a machine of the class described, a rotatable table having a. plurality of radially directed slots therein, a bar slidably` mounted in each said slot provided witha plurality of tapped holesrspaced along its length, a mold-supporting block, means tosecure said blo'clr to said bar, and a screwthreaded plug for closing each of said holes.
3. In a machine of the class described, a rotatable table formed with a plurality of radially directed slots, a bar slidably re.- tained in each said slot, and a mold-supporting block detachably conne'ctedat spaced intervals to each said bar. v
al.. In a machine'of the class described, a rotatable table formed with a radially directed slot, a bar slidably retained in said slot, a mold-supporting block, and means connecting said bar and said block whereby said block may be detachably clamped to the table.
5. The construction such as disclosedk where the mold supporting block andk the aar are detachably 'coupled together and are freely slidable longitudinally of the table slot until tightened into place.
6. In a machine of the class described, a i
7. In ai machine ofthe class described, a
rotatable table formed with a plurality of radially directed inverted T-shaped slots, a T -shaped bar slidably retained in each said slot, and a mold-supporting block detachably connected at spaced intervals to each said bar. l Y
8. In a machine of the class described, the combination with a rotatable table Jformed with a pluralitypof radially directed slots in its upper'face, of a block having a rib soA on its underside interlitting in each said slot, Y
said blocks each having a mold-supporting shoulder and an upstanding portion at its outer edge, said upstanding portion being formed with a laterally directed lip, a. mold formed with .a lower flange supported on said shoulders andttormed with a lug engageable by said lip, and slida-ble means in said slot to secure said block in adjusted radial positions. y i 9. In a machine of the class described, the combination with a rotatable table, a
ing a laterally eXtencli1ig-base-llange, of a lplurality of mold-supporting blocks adjust- 'ably secured on xsaid table, and a mold havplurality of screws adapted to protrudeY through said flange and to bear upon said blocks, respectively.
' 10. In a machine of the class described, a rotatable table having a plurality of radially directed Vslots therein, a bar slidably mounted in each said slot each providedV with a plurality length, a supporting block, means to secure said bloclr to said bar by means of said holes, and a plurality of plugs for closing the holes not used.
