Description

Feb. 23 192e.- I
- 1,574,392 J. J. HESER CORN HUSKER Filed Dec. 8. 1924 Patented Feb. 23, F326.
n -.;r cE.
JOHN J. HESER, F TAMORA, NEBRASKA CORN nusnna.
Application filed December 8, 1924. Serial No. 754,578.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN J. Hnsniz, a
citizen of the United States, residing at Tamora, in the county of Seward and State of Nebraska, have invented a new and use ful Corn Husker, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a device'to be supported on the wrist to facilitate the husking of corn.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which may be conveniently supported on the wrist of the user, the device carrying a suitable blade adapted to tear the husk to enable the operator to grasp the same, the tearing of the husk by the blade being accomplished on the passage of the operators arm over the corn in grasping the husk.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which will not in any way interfere with the operators fingers in removing the husks.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention residesin the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawing:
Figure 1 is a perspective view illustrating a corn husking device constructed in accordance with the invention as positioned on the hand of the user;
Figure 2 is a side elevational view disclosing the blade for cutting the husk.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the device.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the device includes a'body portion 5 which is formed preferably of a length of leather so constructed and shaped that it will completely enclose the wrist of the user, thereby providing a body portion which will rigidly support and will not move with respect to the operators wrist while in use.
. The edges of the body portion are supplied with suitable straps 6 and buckles 7 whereby the body portion may be firmly secured.
Secured to the body portion 5 by means 7 of rivets 8 and 9 is a supporting strap 10 which extends throughout the length of the body portion 5, one end of the supporting strap 10 extending beyond the forward end of the body portion 5 as at 11, where it is formed with an opening to receive the strap 12 which isshown as passing therethrough, the strap being formed with a slot 14 1 through which the main portion of the strap passes for securing the strap inposition.
The opposite end of the strap 12 is formed 6 with a slit to permit it to be positioned over the buckle 7 disposed at the forward end of V the body portion, in a manner as shown by Figure 2 of the drawing, thereby providing a strap which is removable, the advantages of which should be obvious, since the removable strap commonly known as a thumb strap permits the device to be employed and conveniently'operated when po-' sitioned on hands of various sizes.
Secured to the supporting strap 10 by means of the rivets 9 which also assist in securing the supporting strap 10 to the body portion 5 is the husking blade 15 which is constructed preferably of sheet metal and formed with downwardly and inwardly turned end portions 16. An upstanding V rearwardly curved cutting blade 17 forms a part of the blade 15 and is disposed in such. relation-with the body portion 5 that it lies 185 in a position to sweep across the corn, cutting into the husk, as the person using the husking device moves his hand across the corn to grasp the husk and tear it from the corn.
In the use of the device, an ear of corn to be husked is held by the left hand of the operator, and the right hand supporting the husking blade is brought across the ear of corn, the blade 17 acting to split the husk, 95 tearing it loose in such a way that it may be readily grasped by the hand following the blade 17 to remove the husk from the ear of the corn. I
I claim 7 In a husking device, a body portion, a supporting strap secured to the body portion and having one end thereof extending viding a loop, one of the buckles adapted to 10 beyond the body portion and providedwith be passed through the slit in the opposite an obliquely disposed slot, buckles having end of the thumb strap to removably secure straps secured to the body portion, a thumb the thumb strap to the body portion and a 5 strap having slits formed adjacent to its husking hook on the supporting strap.
ends, said strap adapted to be passed through In testimony that I claim the foregoing 15 the slot and the opposite end of the strap as my own, I have hereto affixed my signapassed through the slit of the thumb strap ture. adjacent to the obliquely disposed slot pro- JOHN J. HESER.
