Description

Feb. 16,1926. 1,513,519,
J. LITTLE NURSING NIPPLE Filed March 23 1925 II I I\\\\ v 1 Patented Feb. 16, 1926.
UNITED s TEs PATENT OFFICE.
JESSE LITTLE, OF LAKEWOOD, RHODE ISLAND, ASSIGNOR TO- DAVOL RUBBEHOOM- I PANY, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND.
' NURSING NIPELE.
T 0 all whom it may concern: I
Be itknown that I, JEssE LITTLE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lakewood, in the town oflVarwick, county of Kent, and State of Rhode Island, have invented new and useful Improvements in Nursing Nipples, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in nursing nipples, and the primary object thereof, is to provide a nipple of the breast type which has improved means for preventing collapsing thereof.
A further object. of the invention, is to provide a nipple wherein the 'means for preventing collapsing thereof isnot only sanitary, but also embellishes the appearance of the nipple.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a side elevation;
Figure 2 is a top plan view, and
Figure 3 is a section on line 33 vof- Figure 2.
In proceeding in accordance with the present invention, the nipple is composed of a generally hemispherical body 1, the
lower edge of which is provided with an integral collar 2 for engagement with the mouth of the bottle.
The dome of the body is formed with an integral thickened band 3 which latter is formed integral with a series of spaced tapering fingers 4, the fingers 4 being also tapered in thickness and substantially merging into the dome at their freeupper ends. A circular strengthening and reinforcing rib 5 is located above the free endsof the fingers 4 in spaced relationthereto and surrounds the mouth receiving part of the nipple proper 6.
The circular rib 5 is, asdepicted, located close to the base of the mouth-piece '6 so as to resist lateral movements of the nipple such as tend to collapse same. The rib 5, in turn is supported by the fingers 4 and the latter receive support at't-heir base ends from the band 3, so that a stepped support is provided for the part, or nipple proper, 6.
Having thus described my invention,
' ends of the fingers, and a nipple proper extending upwardly fromthe top of the dome and having its base disposed adjacent to the free ends of the fingers, the fingers tapering in thickness from the outer or base ends thereof to the free ends thereof and merging substantially into the top of the dome at their said free ends.
2. In a breast nipple, a body having a dome provided with an integral external 7 circular band and external tapering spaced fingers extending upwardly from the band and merging into the top part of the dome, a circular external rib integral with the dome and spaced above the'free ends of the fingers, and. a nipple proper eiitending'upwardlyfrom the top ofthe dome and having its base disposed adjacent to'the free ends of the fingers. c
3. In a breast nipple, a'body having a dome provided with an integral external circular band and external reinforcing -means extending upwardly from the band,
a circular external rib integral with the dome and located above the said reinforcing means, and a nipple proper extending upwardly from the top of'the dome and having its base disposed adjacent to the external rib.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
JESSE LITILE.
