PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGES GBAUSS, oF mms, FRANCE..
CENTRII'UGAL DEYING APIE'ARATUS'.
i" Application filed March 7, 1924. Serial No. 697,643.
To all whom it may cancer-n:
Be it known that I, GEORGES GRAUSS, a citizen of France, and a resident of Paris, France, have invented some new and useful 6 Improveme'ts in Centrifugal- Drying Aparatus, of which the following is a specication. y
This invention relates to centrifugal drying apparatus and its object is to provide a 10 drying apparatus characterized by the' ap- 4 plcation of mechanical means for utilizing the centrifugal force for the actuation of the basket, and to provide means to. permit the basket to' be readily removed for pur poses of emptying or change, when the apparatus is at rest.
A drying appa'ratu's together with the device in view is represented in the annexed drawings showing: v
;In Fgure 1" a vertical section through theiaxis of the upper part of theapparatus, an
In Figure 2 a plan view, partly in section.
p The container a, the vertical shaft c and its controllng means are the same as in the apparatus known.
The basket receiving the matter to be dried or tobe turbined is composed of a member g of an appropriate form form'ng 301 the hub g', a casing g which is of greater diameter than the hub, and also the bottom 9 on which is fixed -a circular shell hsurmounting by a cap z'. The member g is suspended from the upper portion of the verti- *cal shaft c the hub g' being bored to receive said shaft and its upwardly e tending spindle c', the central portion of the hub bearing on a collar e, which collar bears on the shoulder e' of the shaft c. 40 i For starting, the vertical shaft c is actuated by an electric motor, steam engine or the like, directly or indirectly by means of a belt, cable or the like.
The motion is transmitted to 'the basket by meansof a piece 70 with radial wings,
fixed on the shaft o. u
This piece k has an outer diameter such 'asto permit of its rotation within the cas-' After release of the shoes y' the basket may be removed directly with aid of hooks f fixed at the upper part of the hub g. While the basket is being emptied another basket maybe placed on the same machine which may be started immediately thereafte'r. After finishing the drying or turbining with `the second basket, the first one after emptying and changing will be ready for use.
These Operations follow each other very rapidly owing to the absence of intermediate handlings, the basket Testing freely on the shaft 0.
To the advantages of this device, the dimensions .whereof are variable as well as the details of construction, may be added the facility of interchanging the baskets, the particular disposition of each one of them permittng the use of the same drying apparatus for different kinds of work.
What I claim, is
1. A centrifugal drying -apparatus comprising a. fixed container, a vertical power sha'ft arranged in the container, and a basket in the container, said basket having a bottom memberformin a casing and also forming a hub above t e casing, the said shaft extending upwa'rdly through the hub and having an upwardly ex'tending spindle, a
collar arranged in said hub, around the lower portion of said s indle and hearing on the shoulder formed y said shaft around the base of said spindle and whereby said basket is Suspended; centrifugally acting clutch mechanism in said casing toconnect said basket te said shaft for rotation by the latter and means on the upper end of said hub to facilitate the lifting'of said basket fro said shaft.
2. A centrifugal drying apparatus comprising a fixed container, a vertical power shaft arranged in the container, and a basket in the container, said basket having a bottom member forming a, casing and also :forming a hub above the casing, the said.
shaft extending upwardly through the hubon the shoulder formed by said shaft around the base of said spindle and whereby said basket is Suspended; centrfugally actig clutch mechanism in said casing to connect said basket to said shaft for rotation by the letter and brake mechanisn for said basket also arranged in said casing.
In witness whereof I afiix my signature.
GEORGES GRAUSS.
