To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Jnssn Gr. KING, a citi zen of the United States of America, residing at Dayton, county of Montgomery, and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Refrigerating Apparatus, of which the following is a full clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to refrigerating ap I paratus, and more particularly to refrigerating machines for domestic use in which a cooling unit such as an evaporator and brine tank associated therewith, is supported within a refrigerator cabinet.
It is among the objects of the present invcntion to so support the cooling unit that, during transportation of the refrigerator, the liablity of damage will be reduced to the minimum.
Other and further objects of the present invention will be apparent from the following description reference being had to the accompanying drawings wherein a preferred embodiment of one form of the present 111- vention is clearly shown.

Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 2 showing a modified form of the invention; and
Fig. 4 is a side elevation of the apparatus shown in Fig. 3, looking in the direction of the arrow 4 of Fig. 3.
The present invention comprises chiefly a bracket for supporting a refrigerator cooling unit within a refrigerator cabinet, said bracket having a relatively movable portion yieldingly maintained against the cooling unit by spring pressure. This construction permits the cooling unit to move slightly relative to the bracket in order partially to absorb the shock to which the walls of the unit are subjected, particularly when, during transportation, brine in the cooling unit is agitated.
In the drawings, 20 designates a refrigerator cabinet including the cooling compartment 21 provided with a door 22. The cooling chamber 21 is dprovided with a metal lining 23 surrounde by insulating material 24 or the like which is spaced from the outer walls 25 and 26 of the cabinet to provide a dead air space for insulating purposes.
The cooling unit includes a brine tank 30 adapted to receive one or more ice trays 31 which are removable from a space extending within the brine tank. Brine tank 30 en closes and supports an evaporating chamber 32 connected by pipes 33 and 34 with re frigerating mechanism not shown. This mechanism may be located within the refrigerator cabinet below the food compartment if desired. A plurality of pipe loops 35 are connected with the evaporator chamber 32 for circulating refrigerant gas through the brine in the tank 30.
The brackets for supporting the cooling unit shown in Figs. 1 and 2 each comprises a U-shaped member which extends along the side and bottom walls of the brine tank 30, and a relatively movable bar 41 which er:- tends across the top of the cooling unit and is yieldingly pressed against the top of the brine tank 80 by means of springs 42 which bear against the lining 23 and the movable bar 41. pended by means of bolts 43 and nuts 44 from channel-shaped supporting members 4 located above the cooling unit and in the airspace between the refrigerator top wall 26 and the insulating material 24. These channels 45 are supported at their ends upon ledges 46 and 47 secured to the outer walls of the cabinet. The spacing of the bracket member 40 from the channels 45 is deter-' mined by sleeves 48 which extend through the insulating material 24 and the lining 28, and loosely through the, apertures in the ends of the bar 41.
During transportation of the refrigerator with the cooling unit containing brine assembled therein the splashing of the brine within the tank 30 against the interior of the walls of the brine tank will subject the cooling unit to considerable vibration which might disrupt or permanently deform the walls of the cooling unit unless the unit were supported in such a manner that it could change its position slightly by bodily movement thereof. Since the bracket is provided with a relatively movable portion resiliently pressed against the top wall of the unit the cooling unit may move slightly in a vertical The bracket members 40 are susdirection and thereby relieve its walls of I severe vibration due to the splashing of the brine within the brine tank;
In the form .of the invention shown in 5 Fig. 3 the brine tank 30 is provided at its upper end with the evaporator chamber 32. The tank 30 is suspended within a plurality of U-shaped brackets 50 connectedby rods 53 of resilient material, each provided with a bent portion 54 adapted to bear against the surface of the brine tank adjacent the evaporator chamber 32. By reason of the resiliency .of the bars 53 the cooling unit is permitted to move slightly within the shaped frame members 50 in order to relieve bolts and nuts 55 and 56.

order that the ice tray openings in the brine tank can be arranged to register with openings 59,- there is enough clearance provided between the brine tank and the U-shaped brackets 50 so that the brine tankcan be 30 shifted sideways. The bars 53 are provided with adjustable clamping nuts 60 for holding said rod 53 in any adjusted position with respect to the brine tank support. After the brine tank 30 is located in the correct position, the bars 53 are clamped with respect thereto and will hold same in this position. The brine tank support can be raised or lowered for the purpose of vertically arranging the brine tank 30 with respect to the openings 59 in the cover 58 by providing washers 61 which can be inserted or withdrawn from between the U-shaped bracket 50 and 1inin r'23.
WVliile the. form of mechanism herein shown and described constitute'sa preferred embodiment of one form of the invention it is to be understood that other forms might be adopted and various changes and altera-' tions made in the shape, size, and proportion of the elements without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.
What is claimed is as follows: 1. Refrigerating apparatus comprising the combination with a cabinet having a cooling compartment; of a cooling unit; and means for supporting the cooling unit within the cabinet comprising a bracket supported by the-cabinet within'the cooling chamber and adapted to support the coo'ng unit, said bracket including a relatively movable poriman tion; resiliently engaging a portion of the coolmgunit.
2. Refrigerating apparatus comprising the combination with 'a cabinet having a cooling compartment; of a cooling unit adapted to be located within the compartment; a bracket supported by the cabinet within the cooling chamber and including a substantially U-shaped portion for receiving the cooling unit and a bar resiliently engaging the cooling unit to permit movement of the cooling unit relative to the U-shaped portion.

Refrigerating apparatus co'mprisingthe combination with a cabinet having a cooling compartment; of a cooling unit adapted to be located within. the compartment; a U- shaped bracket supported by the cabinet within the cooling chamber and extending adjacent the side and bottom walls of the cooling unit; and abar' resiliently bearing agalnst the top wall of the cooling unit to permit movement of the cooling unit relative to. the bracket member. 4. Refrigerating apparatus comprising th combination with a cabinet having a cooling compartment; of a cooling unit adapted to be located within the compartment; :1 U-
shaped bracket supported by the cabinet within the cooling chamber and extending adjacent the side and bottom walls of the cooling unit; and a rod of resilient material having its ends attached to the U-shaped bracket, and having an intermediate portion bearingagainst. the top wall of the cooling unit. i
5. Refrigerating apparatus comprising the combinationwith a cabniet including a lining of insulating material and outer walls spaced from'said lining; of a cooling unit adapted to be supported within the cabinet; and means supported by. the outer walls of the cabinet and located within the lining and adapted to receive the cooling unit and having provisions permitting movement of the cooling unit relative to the cabinet.
6. Refrigerating apparatus comprisingthe combination with a cabinet having a cooling compartment; of a cover for said compartment and having an opening therein; of a cooling unit adapted to be located within the compartment and having an opening adapted to be arranged to register with the opening in said cover; of a support for said cooling unit, said support comprising means for resiliently securing the cooling unit in position with respect to said cover.
