- UNITED sTAr s HERBERT A. MOBEHOUSE OF IASTINGS, MICHIGAN FENCEPOST.
Application filed `Tuly 7,
To all 'whom it may come m: i
Be it knownthat I, Hnnennr A. Monn- HoU'sE, a ctizen of the United States, residing at Hastings, county of Barry, State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful lmprovements in Fenceposts, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in felice posts.
The main object of this invention isto provide an improved fence post having means formed integrally therewith for attaching a fence to a post. i
A further object is to provide a post having these advantages which is simple and economical in .structure and one to which the fen ce may be quickly attached and detached and at the .same time is very secure when attached.
Further objects, and objects relat'ng to structural details, will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.
I accomplish the objects of my inventien by the devices and means described in the following specification. Thcnventien is clearly defined and pointed out in the claims.
A structure which is a preferred embodiment of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing, forminga part of this application, in which.:
Fig. I is a perspective view of my improved post, a section of the :Fence being shown in operative relation thereto.
Fig. II is a fragmentary :front elevation, the top and bottom strands of the'tcnce being illustrated 'in engagement with the ost.
Fig. III is a :Eragmentary side elevation of the upper end of the post, the top longitudinal strand of a ence beng shown in section.
In the drawing similar reference characters reter to similar parts throughout the several views.
Referring to the drawing, 1 represents a section of woven wire tence comprising top strand 2 and bottom strand 3 with longitudinal and vertical interwoven strands.
My improved post t comprises a pair of strands of wire or rod of suitable gau e twisted together, the upper ends of the strands having untwisted portions 5, the strands preferably being formed ot a single piece folded upon each other providing a connecting loop 6 for the untwisted end.
1924; Serial No. ?24,649.
This connecting loop portion the loop or ends 5 o'fi `the strand lie on oppostte sides of the post as .shown in the drawing, the arms being otiset atit' so that the strand 8 of the fence is engaged ,and clamped or kinhed around the post by means of the attaching member, the top strand of the felice being engaged by the bends 9 of the fastener member, this providing an integral and very effective means for securing the top of the fence to the post.
I also form a coil 10 in one of the strands, this coil being 'disposed downwardly to receive the bottom strand 3 of the fence, clamping it against the side of the post and thus providing an integral means for securing the bottom of the ten ce to the post.
While my improved post is especially designed for supporting light tences, such as chicken wire, light trellises for vnes and the like, it is practical to mal-:e the same it'or heavier fences. v
The structure is very economi cal to produce and the felice may be quickly attached or detached theretrom.
Having thus described myinvention, what I claim as new and desireto secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. A felice post comprising twisted strands r having an untwisted connectng loop' at the top thereo' folded downwardly with the arms ofthe loop. on opposite sides of the post providing a 'ence engaging member, the arms of the loop being inwardly lcinked providing a downwardly opening clampunder which a fence may be engaged and acting to clamp a portion ot the fence upon the post, one of the twisted strands ot" the post having an ofiset therein disposed downwardly at the side of the post providing a downwardly facing fence engaging member.
2. A 'ence post comprising twisted strands having an untwisted connecting loop at the top the-reof folded downwardly with the arms of the loop on opposite sides of the post providing a downwardly opening' fence engagingrclamp under whch longitudinal strands of a 'fence may be engaged and acting to clamp the same upon the side of the post, one of the twisted strands of the post having a kinh therein disposed downwardly at theside ot' the post providing a facing felice strand engaging member;
, o. A tcnce post comprisingtwisted strands of the strand sfolded down so that the arnsot llO having' an utwsted connectng loop at the top thereof folded downwardly with' the arms of the loop on opposite sides of the post providing a fence engaging member, the arms of the 'loop being inwardly kinked providing a downwa'dly opening clanp under which a en ce may be engaged and act ing to clanp a portion of the fence upon the post. e
4. A fence post comprising twisted strands having nntwisted portions at the top thereof folded dowwardly on opposite sides of the post and providing a` downwardly openingclampunder which portions i of afence may be eng'aged, po t'ons of the arms of said clamp kinked rearwa'dly so that they lie to the rezuof the plane of the face of thepost, for the purpose specified. 5. A i 'ence post c'o'nprsing twisted strands having untwsted portons at the top thereof folded downwardlyon opposte sides ofthe post providing a downwa'dly opening clanp under' which po'tions of a :Eencemay be engaged; e In witness Whereof I have hereunto set my hand. e
