Application filed October 22, 1924. Serial No. 745,212.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES FRANCIS JENKINS, citizen of the United States, residing at Washington, District of Columbia,
have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Offset Filament Lamps, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to devices for use in the transmission of photographs by radio, and for other purposes, and has for its principal object to provide a light source without the objections of other sources.
lVith this and other objects in View the invention consists in the novel details of construction and combination of parts more fully hereinafter disclosed and particularly pointed out in the claims.
Referring to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which like symbols refer to like parts in both views- Fig. 1 is a diagrammatic drawing of a usual arrangement, and Fig. 2 the novel arrangement of applicants invention, in both of which A is a filament lamp; B an apertured diaphragm; O a lens; D a light receiving surface, and a the filament of the lamp.
to be effective, say, one-hundredth inch in diameter, this minute opening acts as a pinhole camera forming a large size image of I the filament, on the same picture screen (D) that the lens C does, and with a consequent confusion destructive of acceptable results.
However, by moving the filament over near to or touching the glass wall the pinhole effect is avoided, and a single sharp image on the screen results.
Filling the lamp with hydrogen so distributes the heat of the filament on the adjacent area of glass that the glass does not crack.
It is obvious to those skilled in the art that the light source need not be limited to a filament, nor that the enclosing casing need necessarily be filled with hydrogen under all circumstances.
What I claim, is
1. In a lamp unit, a light source, an en-, closing casing therefor filled with hydrogen, said llght source located in approximate contact with the casing wall.
2. In a lamp unit, a light source, and an enclosing casing, said light source being 10- cated in approximate contact with said casing Wall. In Fig. 1 the filament of the lamp is 10- 3.
