Description

Feb. 9 1926;
F. c. EcKER REPEATING GUN FOR SHOOTING ELASTIC BANDS Filed Oct. 30, 925
INVENTOR.
Patented Feb. 9, 1926.
UNITED STATES FRED C. ECKER, OF TOPEKA, KANSAS.
REPEATING GUN 'I'OR SHOOTING- ELASTIC BANDS.
Application filed October 80, 1925. Serial No. 85,801.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRED C. EoKEn, a citizen of the United States, residing in Topeka, county of Shawnee, and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Repeating Gun for Shooting Elastic Bands.
My invention relates to a repeating gun for shooting elastic bands.
The object of my invention is to provide a toy functioning as a gun.
A further obJect of my invention is to provide a toy gun that is harmless.
A still further object of my invention is to provide a toy gun that will repeat.
A still further object of my invention is to provide a gun that will produce a report simultaneous with the discharge of the elastic band.
Referring to the drawings:
Fig. I is a side view of the gun, in pistol form.
Fig. II is a top View of Fig. I.
Fig. III is a side view of the rotary disc.
FigIV is a view showing the operation.
The mechanism comprising my invention consists of a grip 1, and a barrel 2, the said gri and barrel being integral, and interme iately positioned between the grip and the barrel is a spurred disc 3 rotatably mounted in a slot 4:, the said disc rotating on a pin 5, engaging in an aperture 6 concentrically posltioned in said disc, the said pin having a head with an eye on one end and the opposite end threaded to engage in the structure on the opposite side of the slot.
On the underside thereof is a spring 7 securely fastened at one end by means of screws 8, the opposite end being free to spring by action of the spurs in their rotation; the said spring functions as a stop resisting the tensions of the elastic bands 9 and also functions as a report element in its rebound striking the structure to which it is attached, producing a sound as of a gun when discharged; the said disc member is a structure having a plurality of spurs 10; the said spurs function as a trigger and a hook over which the elastic bands are looped. I When the said bands are looped on the spurs they are stretched to the muzzle of the gun engaging in a notch as atA, from whence they are free to pass when the opposite end is released by the rotation of the disc carrying the spurs downward through the slot as at B, at which time force of the contraction of the elastic band causes it to travel with great rapidity in longitudinal alignment with the barrel striking the object in ran e therewith.
T e gun herein described is adapted to dischar three rubber bands consecutively by pulling. the exposed spur as at C, functioning as the trigger and simultaneous with the movement the spur D will release the first band and the spur E will escape from the end of the spring 7 causing a sharp reort. This action will also bring the ad- Jacent spur F in position to discharge a second hand, and so on until all bands have been discharged.
In placing the bands for individual discharge, band 9" is positioned first,.then '9" second, then 9"; the bands lapping on each other as at A, they may then be discharged without interruption of eachother.
In Fig. IV is shown a band leaving the muzzle of the gun when the trigger spur is pulled, it being understood that the spurs in their rotation become triggers consecutively and positioned as shown at C in Fig. I. The grip and barrel may be cast or madev of sheet metal stamped or they may be made of fiber or any suitable material at.
the discretion of the manufacturer and likewise the spurred disc.
I do not confine my invention to be made in the shape of a pistol as herein disclosed,
as the form of a rifle or shot gun may be employed. Therefore such modifications may be employed as lie within the scope of the appended claims. I
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is r 1. In a repeating gun for shooting elastic bands, a gun comprising a grip and a barrel, a spurred disc rotatably mounted near the grip of said gun, elastic bands engaging on the spurs of said disc and the muzzle of the gun, a spring engaging on the spurs of said disc functioning as a resistance for said elastic bands and to create a report on the stock of said gun simultaneous with the discharge of said bands.
2. In a repeating gun for shooting elastic hands, a gun comprising a stock and a barrel integral, a slot positioned in the stock at spurs'tangentially positioned on the periph- .ery of said element, said spurs functioning as a trigger consecutively in the rotations of said member, a notch transversely positioned across the muzzle of said barrel, a plurality of elastic bands engaging in said notch and with the spurs of sald rotating member, a springon the stock ofisaid gun functioning as counter tensionvto resist the tension of saidelastic hands, all substantially as shown' and for the purpose described.
-trigger, and a spring attached to said stock,
said spring adapted to engage the spur ad jacent to the spur functioning as a trigger consecutively in their rotation, the said spring fiinctioning'as a stop resisting the tension of said elastic bands, the said spring adapted to snap on the stock of the gun as released by the spurs in their rotation.
4. In a repeating gun for shooting elastic bands, a gun, elastic bands detachably positioned on said gun, a notch across the muzzle of said 11, said notch functioning as a seat for sald elastic bands, a spurredmember rotatably mounted at the breech of said gun, the spurs of said member functioning as attachin means for the opposite end of elastic ban s, a spring frictioning on the spurs of said rotatable member, said spring causing a report at the instant of disengagement from the spurs simultaneously with the discharge of the elastic bands as said member is rotated.
5. In a repeating gun for shooting elastic bands, the combination of a toy gun, a structure of the shape of a gun, a spurred member rotatably mounted in the stock thereof, elastic bands tensioning from the muzzle of the gun and attached to separate spurs on said rotating member so that the rotation of the said rotatable member will discharge one band at a time as rotated by the protruding spurs functioning as a trigger consecutively until all bands have been discharged.
