L. O. HANSON PIPE HOIST Filed May 6. 1924 W 4 y/WALL AHA/V50 Patented oh. 9, 1926.
UNITED STATES LYNDALL 0. HANSON, OF NEW AUBURN, VTISCONSIN.
PIPE I-IOIST.
Application filed May 6,
T0 aZZ whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, LYNDALLO. Hanson, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Auburn, in the county of Chip ewa and State of lVisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pipe Hoists, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to a pipe hoist iinplen'ient and has for its prime ob- ,ject to provide a device of this nature which may be easily engaged with a pipe such as extends downwardly in a well in order that the same may be conveniently lifted therefrom.
Another important object of the invention is to provide a. hoist of this nature embodying a strong and durable structure which is eflicient, reliable, and well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.
lVith the above and numerous other ob-- jects in view as will appear as the description progresses, the invention resides in cer tain novel features of construction, and in the combination and arrangement or parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a perspective view showing; the implement embodying my invention engaged with a pipe section, I
Figure 2'is a fragmentary plan view oi the bar showing particularly the headed end thereof,
Figure 3 is an elevation of the structure shown in Figure 2 a portion thereof being shown in section taken substantially 011 the line of Figure 2,
Figure 4 is a detail perspective of the jaws, and
Figure is a detail section through the hooked end of the lever.
Referring to the drawing in detail it will be seen that the device consists of a bar A and a lever B pivoted thereto. The bar A is provided with an elongated shank 1 one head headed as at 2 provided with a. vshaped recess 3 having a pair of pockets 4: therein for receiving the removable jaws 5 one face being provided with transversely extending corrugations 6. Each jaw is provided with an apertured ear or lug 7 extending rearwardly therefrom and embedded into the headed end 2 of the shank 1 in order that screws 8 passing through the headed end 2 may also engage the apertures 1824. Serial No. 711,420.
of the lug to hold the jaws in place and assembledas is indicated in Figure 2.
The lever B is pivoted intermediate its ends as at 9 to an intern'iediate portion of the shank 1 adjacent the head 2. The shank of this lever is substantially Z-shaped so as to include an intermediate portion 10, the handle 11. and the arm 12. This arm 12 is provided with a hooked end 13 the interior face of which is corrugated as is shown to advantagein Figure The implement is engaged with a pipe section as is indicated to advantage in Figure 1 so that the hooked end 13 of the lever B is disposed below the headed end 2 of the bar A. It will thus be seen that by lifting up *ardly on the bar A the pipe may be readily lifted from the well. It is advantageous to utilize two of these implements. It will readily be seen that by pushinq' downwardly upon the handle 11 as the device is shown in Figure 1 the jaw forn'ied by the hook end 13 may be released from thepipe section in order that the implement maybe slipped downwardly in order to grip the pipe at a lower point. By using); two of these implements the pipe may be easily released from the well since the device is easily manipulated and the structure is so simple that there is nothing which could readily become out of order. 1
Although I have described the invention with a certain degree of particularity. it is evident that cl'iangres in the details of con struction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing; from the spirit or scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed or sacrific in: any of its advantages.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:
An implement of the class described includinoin combination a bar and a lever pivoted intermediate its ends to an intermediate portion oi the bar, said bar including an elongated shank. a head formed on one end of the shank, a jaw associated with the head, said lever including an intermediate portion, a handle extending from one end of the intermediate portion at an anglethereto, an arm extending from the other end of the intermediate portion and ter minatingr in ahook extension having interior corrugations.
In testimony whereof I aliix my signature.
LYN DALL O. HANSON.
