A. KAMP BOGIE FOR RAIL AND TRAMWAY CARS 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 Filed April 10. 1925 o r o Patented 2i,
BOGIE non Barn AND rnanwaY cans.
Application filed April 10, 19565. Serial No. 22,087.
To all whom it may 0071mm Be it known that I, Anriioi rsn KAMP, engineer, a subject of the King of the Belgians, residing at O'stende, Belgium, 87 Chaussee de Nieuport, have invented new and useful Improvements in Bogies for Rail and Trainway Cars, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to improvements in bogies for railand tramway-cars.
Single axle bogies have already been constructed of which the centre of rotation or pivot was situated in a vertical plane passing through the axis of the axle.
By providing suitable connections, these bogie-s are capable of taking appropriate positions when taking curves, but they transmit to the body of the car all lateral shocks or impacts resulting for instance from irregularities of the track, especially on cutering curves.
The object of the present invention is chiefly to construct an improved bogie which will neutralize the lateral and vertical shocks and thereby provide greater comfort for travellers.
With this object in view, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of a. main bogie-frame and a secondary bogie-fran'ie, self reacting means being provided for the suspension of the latter from the former in such manner as to allow a relative lateral movement of the said two frames.
In order that the invention may be more readily understood an embodiment of same is, by way of example only, illustrated by the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 a view half .in longitudinal elevation and half in longitudinal section of a single axle bogie according to the invention,
Figure 2 is a view ha f in transverse section and half in end elevation of the said bogie, and Figure 3 is a plan view thereof.
Referring to said drawings, the bogie comprises a main bogie frame which includes two transverse members a; and two sidie plates 6 which serve as guides for the lubrieating journal boxes 0 of the axle (Z. To these journal bones are secured the leaf springs c from the ends of which the main frame is suspended through the medium of hangers or suspension links f, suitable coil springs 9 being interposed at the points of suspension. According to the invention, the
bogie further comprises a secondary bogie frame it which is at its centre pivoted to the chassis or frame 71 of the car body as shown at is. The said secondary frame it is suspended from the main bogie frame by means of four suspension links m which in order to obtain a greater stability of alinement have heart-shaped upper ends engaging each two pins 02- provided close to the ends on the transverse members a. of the main frame and situated in the; same horizontal plane. In order to increase the resiliency in the vertical direction, coil springs p are interposed between the lower ends of the links in and suitable seats 1* provided under the transverse members of the secondary frame h.
It will be obvious that in view of the above described arrangement the secondary bogie frame together with the car body are able to move laterally in relation to the main bogie frame in a direction parallel to the axis of the axle whenever sufficientlateral efforts impart to them a tendency to effect such movements.
I claim:
1. In a bogie for rail and tramway cars, the combination of: a main bogie-frame resiliently supported on two wheels and including two transverse members and two side-plates with journal-boxes; a secondary bogie-frame fitted with a housing for a central pivot; and self-reacting means for suspending said secondary frame from ti o aforesaid main frame, adapted to allow a relative lateral movement of the said two frames; substantially as described.
2. In a bogie for rail and tramway cars, the combination of: a main bogie-frame re siliently supported on two wheels and including two side-plates with journal boxes and two transverse members each provided close to its two ends with two pairs of suspension pins in the same horizontal plane; a secondary bogie-frame fitted with a housing for a central pivot; and self-reacting means for the suspension of said secondary frame from the aforesaid main frame, said means comprising two pairs of suspension links having heart-shaped upper ends engaging the two pairs of suspension pins of the respective transverse members of the main frame.
3. In a bogie for rail and tramway cars, the combination of: a main bogie-frame resiliently supported on two wheels and including two side plates with journal boxes and two transverse: members each provided close to its two ends with two pairs of suspension pins in the same horizontal plane; a secondary bogie-frame fitted with a housing for a central pivot; and self-reacting elastic means for the suspension of said secondary frame from the; aforesaid main frame, said means comprising two pairsof suspension links having heart-shaped upper ends engaging the two pairs of suspension pins 10 of the respective transverse members of the mam irame, and a coil spring mserted between the lower end of each of said links and a seat secured under the secondary frame.
In testimony whereof I signed hereunto my 15 name.
ALPHONSE KAMP.
