Patented Jan. 26, 1926.
UNITED STATES ISRAEL KUSSNER, NEW YORK, N. Y.
STEEPLECHASE- GAME.
Application filed June 2, 1925." Serial No. 34,375.
To all 107mm it may concern:
Be it known that I, ISRAEL KUssNEn, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Steeplethase Games, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to games and toys to a novel and improved Steeplechase, em-
bodying a number of freely supported ob-:
jects such as a horse and a rider, suspended above a rotatable table or disc so that when the latter is rotated, the said objects will be caused to pass over obstructions such as hurdles, stone walls and trees.
One of the objects of my invention 1s to provide a game embodying a wire frame and a rotatable disc or turn table, including provision for hingedly supporting a plurality of objects, such as horses and riders, which are caused to encounter obstructions on the turn table as the latter 1s rotated.
In order to more fully understand and appreciate my invention, reference is had to the accompanying drawings, showing a preferred embodiment thereof, wherein,
The single view shows a perspective view of the game.
It will be seen that 5 designates the base of a polygonal shaped frame, preferably constructed of wire. A series of upwardly extending rods 6, also constructed of wlre, are bent inwardly as at 7 and looped as at 8 to form an eye, one end of the said rod 6 terminating in a top disc 9. The respective wires 6 are looped as at, 10 about the bottom frame 5 and extend inwardly and upwardly as at 11 and terminate in a bottom disc 12, for a purpose presently to appear. The base and the rods above referred to constitute an open frame or guard for a vertical spindle and a turntable, on which a number of obstructions, such as hurdles, stone walls, and other objects appear.
Centrally of the wire frame, I provide a flat disc 13 having a hub 14, which constitutes a bearing for the lower end of a vertical spindle or rod 15. Mounted on the rod is a turntable 16 on which the obstructions, above referred to, are positioned. The spindle 15, of course, extends through the top and bottom discs 9 and 12, and attached to the top of the spindle is a turning knob 17, whereby the turnta le m y be r at d on the bearing. The lower end of the spindle 15 is preferably pointed so that upon the rotation thereof and the turntable 16, mounted thereon, the latter will dip during its revolution.
Supported from the respective eyes 8 of the vertical rod'6, and substantially intermediate the inwardly extending portion 7 thereof, are a plurality of suspended rods 18, on the lower ends of which are mounted the miniature horses and the riders 19. The upper ends of the rods 18 are loosely connected to the eyes 8 and the lower ends thereof to the detachable miniature objects 19 so that when the latter encounters or engages one of the obstructions, such as the hurdles 20 and wall 21, the said objects Will fall from the rods. By reason of the rotation of the turntable 16, which will have the tendency to dip, certain of the objects will pass over the obstructions, whereas others will strike the obstructions. In this manner it will be seen that a novel and interesting game is afforded wherein certain players electing certain of the objects 19 may play the game, it being assumed that the objects remaining suspended after the turntable has been rotated, may constitute the winners or the losers of the game as the case may be. 1
,VVhile I have illustrated and described my invention with some degree of particularity, I realize that in practice various alterations therein may be made. I therefore reserve the right and privilege of changing the form of the details of construction or otherwise altering the arrangement of the correlated parts without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claims. I
Having thus described my invention, What I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is':
1. A toy or game of the class described, comprising an open frame, a plurality of detachable units suspended from the top of the frame, a rotatable shaft and support therefor mounted centrally of the frame, a turntable rotatable with the shaft and obstructions on the turntable for engaging said deachable unit-s.
2.-A toy or game of the class described comprising a polygonal open frame having inwardly extending rods at the top and bottom terminating in a top and bottom disc, a plurality of detachable units carried by the of objects loosely suspended from the inwardly bent top portion of the rods, a vertical shaft and a supporting base therefor axially of the wire frame, said shaft passing through the discs and a turntable having obstruction thereon carried by the shaft, said obstructions engaging the suspended objects when the turntable is rotated.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
ISRAEL KUSSNER.
