DOOR f HANGER.
Applicationled `November 10, 19.2.1, Serial No. 514,367. Renewed yDecember 2, 1925. v
To all whom t may concer/n.'
Be is known that FRANCIS H, MCTIGUE,
a citizen ofthe Unitedy Statesof America,
residing at Holyoke, in the county of Hampden and State of Massachusetts, has
Another object ofthe invention is to pro- 4 vide a hanger of this type with means for supporting two doors on one track construction. L 'l With the above and pother'objectsin View this invention relates to certain new and useful constructions, combinations and arrangements of parts, clearly described in the following specication and fully illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which.: Figurel is a front elevation showing the hanger construction applied for'supporting two doors. y
Figure 2 isadetail vertical sectional view on an enlarged scale showing adouble track arrangement on a single beam..
Figure 3 is adetail side elevation thereofv Figure 4'is a detail vertical sectional view of a single track andhangery arrangement;
Figure 5 is a detail side elevation thereof.
Figure 6 is a detail vertical sectional view of a double track arrangement ofla modied construction. l
Referring to the accompanying drawings 5 and 6 designate sliding doors each of which is provided with a keeper 7 slidably disposed in the floor slot 8.
The door 5 is provided with a stiffening plate 9 L shaped in cross section which is bolted on the side and end edgeface thereof to prevent the same from warping. The shorter leg of this plate is provided with a boss 10 welded thereto and through this boss a screw 11 is threaded into the upper edge portion of the door. The screw 11 is provided with a head 12 which is engaged y the horizontal leg or arm 13 of the bracket 14, which is provided with a vertical leg 15 which carries the shaft 16 on which a ball bearing grooved wheel 17 is Journaled, said wheel being separated from the vertical ar1n15 by means of a spacing washer or the like 18.V
The doors 5 and 6 aresupported upon a track-beam which in Figures 1 and 2 is The door 6 is provided with a reinforcing p.
shown to be in vthe form of a composite E- y beam and which Athus provides a vertical flange 29 atop horizontal flange 30, a base l horizontal flange 31 and an intermediate horizontalflange 32 which is formed on a separateL shaped section welded or otherwise secured to Athe vertical flange 29. The baser flange 31 is provided with a semispherical rail 33, ythe intermediate flange 32 is provided on its lower side with a similar rail 3,4fand on its upper side with a. similar rail 35 while the flange 3 0 isprovided'with a. similar rail 36, the rails 33, v 34, 35 and 36 being located in the. same vertical plane. The rails 33 and 34are engaged by the ball bearing wheel 17 and the rails 35 and 36 are 'engaged by theball bearing wheel 27. Eachend of each door is supported by a similar hanger as shown in.Figure 1. The door 5 is adjusted by means of thescrew 11 which is clamped in place by a lock vnut y11a which engages the horizontal arm 13'while the door 6 is adjusted by means of the screw 21 which is clamped in place by means of a lock nut 21 against the horizontal arm 23.
In Figures 4 and 5 I show a modified form of the invention wherein a U-beam 37 is employed which provides a vertical flange 38 an upper horizontal flange 39 and a lower horizontal flange 40. The upper horizontal flange 39 is provided with a semi-circular rail 41 and the lower horizontal flange 4() is provided with a similar rail 42 which are engaged by the ball bearing grooved wheel 43 journaled on the shaft 44 secured to the vertical arm 45 which is bolted against the reinforcing l.. shaped plate 46 secured to the door 47. The arm or plate 45 is secured in place by means of bolts or rivets 45a While the reinforcing plate 46 is secured in place by bolts or rivets 46a. The tracks 4l and 42 are disposed in the same vertical plane.
In Figure 6 I show another' modified form of the invention wherein an I-beam 48 is employed which provides oppositely projecting horizontal flanges 49 and 50 on the upper end thereof and 51 and 52 on the lower end thereof. The flange 49 carries a semi-circular rail 53 which is disposed in vertical alignment over the similar .rail 54 carried by the flange 5l while the flange 50 V-arries a similar rail 55 disposed in vertical alignment over the CorrespondinglyT shaped rail 56 carried by the flange 52. The rails 53 and are engaged by the ball bearing grooved Wheel carried by the shaft 58 secured on the vertical arm 59 which is bolted or riveted to the reinforcing plate 60 secured to the door 6l, While the rails 55 and 56 are engaged by the ball bearing grooved Wheel 62 carried by the shaft 63, Which is secured on thevertical arm 64 and this arm 64 is bolted or riveted to the reinforcing plate 65 which in turn is secured directly to the door 66. By this arrangement the Wheels supporting the two doors can be partially protected by the horizontal flanges and both doors arranged to operate partially beneath the supporting beam. Guard plates 67 and 68 may be mounted on the horizontal flanges to enclose portions of the Wheels, said plates being separated from each other to provide slots or channels through which the shafts 58 and 63 extend.
Having described my invention I claim:
l. A door hanger consisting ofv a beam providing horizontal tracks one above the other, each track providing a rail confronting the rail of the other track, a grooved Wheel arranged to engage one of the rails and confront the other rail, a hanger, a shaft secured to said hanger on which the Wheel is journaled and means for securing said hanger to a door.
2. A door hanger comprising a beam providing superimposed horizontal tracks each of Which is provided With a rail, a Wheel movable against one of the rails and arranged to be held in place by the other rail, a hanger, means for securing said hanger to a door, and a shaft secured to said hanger for supporting said Wheel, said Wheel being grooved and said rails being provided with convex faces corresponding to the groove of said Wheel.
3. A door supporting construction consisting of a beam providing horizontal flanges one above the other, an intermediate flange secured to said beam in vertical alignment with the other flanges, rails on said intermediate flange on opposite sides thereof, rails on said horizontal flanges confronting the first rails, grooved Wheels engaging said rails, and door supporting hangers connected With said grooved Wheels.
4. In a door supporting construction, a beam having confronting horizontal flanges and rails disposed on said flanges in confronting relation to each other.
5. In a door supporting construction, a beam E-shaped in cross section providing a top and a bottom horizontal flange and an intermediate horizontal flange, rails located on the opposite sides of the intermediate flange and rails located on the top and bottom flanges in confronting relation to the rails of the intermediate flange.
6. In a door hanger construction a supporting beam providing horizontal flanges, rails on said flanges disposed in confronting relation to each other, a grooved Wheel arranged to engage said rails, a shaft for said Wheel, a hanger member secured toV said shaft, said hanger member having a horizontal terminal flange provided With a slot, a screw having a head adapted to be shifted through the slot and to rest on said terminal flange, a door, a reinforcing plate secured to said door, said screw being threaded through said reinforcing plate into said door, and a nut threaded on said screw against said terminal flange holding the same in position.
