' Application nle d' March 29, 1923. Serial no. 22,476,
To all whom it vimfz concern:
7 Be it known that I, ALBERT H. JEWELL, a" citizen of the United States, iresiding at Lawrence, in the county of Douglas and 7 State. of Kansas, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Insulating Attachments for Oil-Stove Chimneys, of
/ larger proportion ofthe heat units and also intensify the heat which-is produced.
In some chimneys for oil stoveswhich are now in general use there isino insulation whatsoever employed and the heat rays impinging upon the' usual metal wall of the chimney are, in a large measure, absorbed and portions thereof pass through the chimney'wall and are lost, to all practical purposes, for their designed function.
My purpose is to provide a lining for such chimneys as will be adapted to retain the heat unitswithin the chimneyby which'theywill be directed upwardly to the utensil on the stove. A further object is to have this lining reflect the heat rays impinging thereon back into the chimney thereby intensifying the heat'which is conveyed upwardly j for its practical purpose.
A further object is to provide suchalin ing in a construction that can be easily and quickly attached to any of the standard make oil stove chimneys by any person ll accomplish my objectsby means of the details of construction hereinafter set forth, pointed out in my claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which'Fig. 1 shows a planview of an oil stove chimney, my device being in place thereink 7 Fig- 2 shows a sectionalview taken on the line AA in Fig.1; i i Fig. 3shows a sectional vievtaken on the line B-B in Fig. 1; and V Fig; 4 shows a detail jview'iof a-PQ tidn' of the lining being held in place by the shoulder above the door in fachimney- Fig. 5'shows. a detail view. of one ofrthei. v 7
l 'l tending from-the ;-base to the top of the I chimney, said blocks covering the inner wall V of the chimney except fori the space above t blocks; V 7.
Referring to the accompanying drawings the reference numeral 10 isused to indicate.
Pin the appended claims.
formed in the wall thereof "comprising a an oil stove chimney of the ordinary type, or 5 with adoorj opening 11 formed therein, said door opening usually having the shoulder 12 formed at the top: thereof. "Obviously the top and bottom shown.
of the chimney are openas v Theseiblocks are, obviously, curved to fit. the
inner" surface of the chimney a'nd,-'prefer-'- ably, the chimney is" laid in ahorizontal position with the doorv opening at the ltopr The-blocks 13 are --designedl-to extend the complete inner length ofthe-iehimney and p mate as shown, and the number of such blocksfused are designed-to fill theicomplete" j 3 I innersurface of the chimney except for the 1 "space above the door. Key stone blocks 14 I are thenjinserted. through the doo-r their beveled longitudinal edges" 15 '1nating' with the beveled longitudinal edges 16 of their adjacentblocks (on-each side thereof) and the block 14- is thenforced upwardly to the 39' top of thechimney. Other keystone blocks are inserted through the door in the same manner their upper edge surfac es engaging the lower edge surfaces of the blocks 14 which havetheretofore been inserted, until L thespaceabove'the door hasbeen completely filled, the lower supporting block 14 resting on the shoulderl? formedflinlthe' chimney] above the door, By this method, of assemblyit is obvious a complete inner lining for 9 the chimney, made up of a plurality 'ofvm at ingiblocksfliasbeen provided,
'Minor changes-in details of construction of niy device maybe employed Without in any manner affecting-my invention. or itsy function and I do not wish to be limited in I thescope of my invention except as set out xHaving thus described my inventionwhat -I claim and desire to secure vby Letters Patent ofthe United'States, is:
plurality of mating longitudinal'blocks :ex-
My attachment/consists of a plurality of v I mating blocks of -material, 1 3 and 1e formed to resistitheheat rays and reflect them back 7 into thechimney, designed to form, intheir combination, a dining for the? chimney.v'6
tending from the base to the top of the Chlm ney, said blocks covering the inner Wall of thefichilnn'ey except for thespaeeabove the 10 door keystone b'locks-rfillingihelspaee above the door and looking all blocks in relative position. to form a complete lining. and meansto support the key stone blocks.
