G. vE. GATES DISPLAY Homann l med Nov.. 1s. 1922 ATTORNEYS Patented Jan. 19, 1926.
UNITED STATES GEORGE E. GATES` 0F COMSTOCK, MICHIGAN.
DISPLAY HOLDER.
Application filed November 13, 1922.
To all whom t may concern.:
Be it known that I, GEORGE E. GATES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Comstock, county of Kalamazoo, State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in display holders and holders for menus or program cards.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple and effective folder for carrying advertising matter back of a transparent sheet or window constituting a part of a detachable holder for menu or program cards.
Objects pertaining to details and economies of construction and operation will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.
I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described in the following specification. The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the claim.
A structure which is a preferred embodiment of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this application, inwhich:
Fig. I is a detail pla-n View of the open folder, portions of the transparent sheet or window being broken away to show details of construction.
Fig. Il is an enlarged detail view on a line corresponding to line 2-2 of Fig. I, showing the method of securing the retaining hooks for the program or menu in place.
Fig. III is an enlarged detail view of one of the hooks.
Fig. IV is an enlarged detail sectional View taken on line 6-6 of Fig. I, showing the formation of the hinging at the back and the relation of the parts.
In the drawing similar reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views and the sectional views are taken looking in the direction of the little arrows at the ends of the section lines.
The parts of the drawing will be designated by their numerals of reference.
l is the entire double folder provided with a hinged back 2. 3 are the boar-d sides thereof which are covered by the cloth or other fabric 4 as indicated in Fig. II. Hooks 7 project from the outer edge inwardly of the hinge part and are formed into eyes 8 which are secured by eyelets 9 to the board Serial No. 600,550.
3 within the cloth covering 4, as clearly seen in Fig. II. The cover projects inwardly around the edges and holds in place celluloid windows 5 which are retained by the lseams of the cover fabric projecting in` ly. The temporary daily menu or program is folded on itself and inserted under the hook 7 and rests within the outside covers which carry protected advertising matter.
It is clear that these sheets can be very readily removed by disengaging them from the hooks 7 and are very readily inserted by slipping the menus in sidewise therethrough or in any convenient manner. This is preferably done by folding the cover on the hinge so that the parts come back to back and then inserting the sheet under the hooks and into the pockets, and Awhen the. book is opened fiat or closed face to face the hooks 7 effective-ly retain the sheet.
The advertisements cannot be conveniently withdrawn and are inserted by special manipulation of the covers to permit the introduction of thesame into both pockets simultaneously. Of course separate cards can be used for each cover with very good results but with the disadvantage that they can be more readily removed.
My preferred construction shows the hooks retained by an eyel-et inserted through an eye formed therein on one of the covers. This facilitates the manipulation for introducing the advertising` matter but thehooks can be very effectively formed of a single piece of wire as seen in Fig. V, the ends being deflected at 71 to form they hooks 72 and these can be manipula-ted and deflected to one side for the introduction of advertising matter and, while they are more simple and economical to make than the preferred hooks, yet they do not serve the purpose so well because of the slight inconvenience.
From this description it will be clear that this structure can b-e considerably modified without departing from my invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
A double folder of boards with a hinged center, transparent sheets for each Side retained by the cover material at the edges and forming pockets open at their inner 5 edges, hooks secured to one of the boards at the top and bottom of the said hinge With projecting fingers parallel to and Within the hinge for receiving a folded inenu or card, each of said hooks beingifm-med with an eye and being retained by an eyelet 10 therethrough, as speeiiied.
In Witness whereof, I have hereunto set niy hand and seal.
GEORGE E. GATES. [11.5.]
