Be it known that I, CARL GEBHARD, a citizen of Germany, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented a new and useful Furniture Support, of which a specification is set forth below.

In this specification, and the accompanying drawing, I shall describe and show a preferred form of my invention, and spe- -cifically mention certain of its more important ob'ects. forms isclosed, since various changes and adaptations may be made therein without departing fromthe essence of my invention as hereinafter claimed; and objects and advantages, other than those specifically men tioned, are included within its scope.

My invention relates to tips for chair at legs and similar supporting members of articles of furniture. and among its salient objects are; first, to provide an improved resilient tip having a metallic wearing surface; second, to provide irn roved means for attaching the wearing sunrise to the resilient element; third, supply a-tip of sightly ap earance embodying the above features; an fourth, to accomplish these results by .meansof a very simple and relatively in so ex ensive construction.

My objects are attained in the manner il lustrated in the accompanying drawing, in whieh- Figure 1 is an elevation of the lower por tion of a chair leg with the resilient element of my invention in position: thereon, the View being largely in central longitudinal section;

In the form of my invention selected for illustrative purposes, the resilient element comprises a specially shaped pad. 5 which is preferably made of a good quality or gum ruoher without fabric or other reinforcemerit therein. This pad is provided with a central hole-whereby it can be attached to a chair leg 9, or to other furniture and the like, by means of a nail 10. The lower end of the nail hole is countersunk; as at 1.1, to accommodate the nail head 12. Accaxial washer 13 is embedded in the material of the pad in the manner illustrated in Figs. 1 and 3, prior to vulcanization;

The wearing element of the invention comprises a metallic cap which usually has a slightly rounded wearing surface 14:; 7 rounded corners 15.; and an outwardly turned rim flange 16 adapted to engage the annular groove 17 in the pad. The mouth of the cap is preferably slightly constrictd, as shown in Fig. 3, so that its internal i ameter is less than the diameter of pad core 8.

My improved tip is installed by first securing the resilient pail in position by means of nail 10, as shown in Fig.v 1. The metallic cap is then applied by stretching rim 6 and flange 2 of the pad over flange 16 of the cap and at the same time forcing the resilient core 8 into the mouth of the cap as shown in Fig. 3.

It will he obvious that the weight of furniture equipped with my invention. is resiliently su ported by the compression of the material of the pad between the bottom of sup ortin member 9 and the up or surface or cap ange 16. In' United States "Patent Number 1,487,- 1 678, issued to me March 18, 1924- I showed and described a similar wearing cap, and a somewhat similar resilient pad. to what is disclosed herein. What is'claimed herein however is atentably distinguished from 116 the claims of said patent.

I claim:

1. A furniture support comprising; a base having a peripheral flange; a cushioning pad of resilient material above the base having a cupped periphery stretched over said flange; and means independent of the base for attaching the pad to furniture.

2. A furniture support comprising; a base having a peripheral flange; a cushion ing pad of resilient material above the base having a cupped periphery stretched over said flange; and a countersunk co-axial 'WfLSllGI having its periphery embedded in the material of the pad, whereby the pad may be attached to furniture independently of the base.

e 3. A furniture suppport comprising; a base consisting of an inverted cap having an outwardly turned flange at its mouth; a

cushioning pad of resilient material'above the base having a cupped periphery stretched over said flange and a central core engaging the mouth of the cap for positioning it lateraiiy; and means independent of the base for attaching the pad to furni ture.
