Application filed July 27, 1925. Serial No. 46,413.
To all whom it may (once-m:
Be it known that I, JOHN STARK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kensington, in the county of Douglas and State of Minnesota, have invented new and useful Improvements in Sack Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a sack holder, the general object of the invention being to provide means for holding a sack in open condition at the spout of a thrashing machine so that the sack will receive the grain dropping through said spout.
Another object of the invention is to so form the parts that the sack can be easily and quickly placed under the spout, the sack will be firmly held while being filled and the sack can be easily removed from the holding means when full.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically "pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a view with parts broken away and the sack in section, showing the inven tion in use.
Figure 2 is a plan view with the spout in section.
Figure 3 is an elevation with the sack removed.
Figures 4, 5 and 6 are views of one set of parts of the holding means.
In these views, 1 indicates the spout head from which the grain is to be bagged. In carrying out my invention, I place brackets 2 on the head and attach angle plates 3 thereto. ,1 use two of these plates and they are arranged on opposite sides of the head. Each plate carries a centrally arranged pivot pin 4 which passes through the extremities of the limbs of the U-shaped member 5 and the tongue 6 of the member 7, said tongue 6 fitting between the extremities of the member 5. This member 7 is also of Ushape, though the tongue closes its inner end. Thus the two members 5 and 7 are pivotally connected at their ends to the plate, so that tl iey can be moved about a horizontal axis. Each pair of members has pivoted thereto intermediate its ends a holding member 8 which is formed with a curved head 9 which forms with the shank 10 a recess 11 which will engage the curved end of each loop member when the loop members are in lowered position. hen such members are raised, the tail of the shank of each member 8 will engage the plate 3, so that the heads can be moved out of en gagement with the loop members and when the members are in lowered position, the tails will be pressed against the plate 3 and thus the recessed portions of the members 8 will be pressed firmly against the looped portions of the members 5 and 7 so as to hold the upper edge of a sack firmly in place, as shown in Figures 1 and 2.
In using the device, the border of the sack is pulled between the head 8 and the loop member carrying the device, the sack being pulled upwardly and inwardly so that it will pass into the recess 11. One side of the sack is placed between two of the holding members and then the other side is placed between the other two members. The downward pull will tighten the grip, so that the heavier the weight, the more firm will be the grip. Then the sack is to be released, its upper part is pulled out in a slightly upward direction, which will cause the holding parts to be lifted slightly and thus release their grip on the sack.
From the foregoing, it will be seen that I have produced simple and effective means for holding a sack in open position under a spout to receive the grain from said spout.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
-What I claim is 1. A sack holder comprising a pair of supporting members, a pair of sack engaging members pivoted to each supporting mem- 3'1.
ber and extending in opposite directions and a holding dog pivoted to each sack engaging member intermediate the cnds of such member.
2. A sack holder comprising a pair of supporting members, a pair of sack engaging members pivoted to each supporting member lUU and extending in opposite directions, a holding dog pivoted to each sack engaging member, each dog having a recess for receiving a portion of its carrying member and a tail for engaging the supporting member.
3. In combination with a spout head, a pair of supporting members thereon, a pair of U-shaped members pivotally connected with the central part of each supporting member, a holding dog pivoted in each U- shaped member and having a recess therein for receiving the bight of the U-shaped member and a tail for engaging the supporting member when the supporting members are in lowered position.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
JOHN W. STARK.
