' and useful Improvement in Raised-Printing Apparatus` of which the following is a speci tication, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
The invention relates to an improvement in apparatus for producingraised printingV having an appearance somewhat like embossing and engraving by first printing the design or other matter upon the sheet, card or other article with ink or other suitable substance and then while the printing substance is still in green state dusting thereon a fusible powder, then passing the article through a suitable heating device to cause the powder to. melt and to amalgamate with the heating substance, then cooling and drying it so as to harden it.
The present invention relates especially to the oven through which the printed article is caused to travel for the purpose of amalgamating the printing substance and the fusible substance. One drawback to the apparatus heretoforeused for this purpose has been the difliculty of getting a proper amount of oxygen for the gas burner without undue loss of heat.
One object of the present'invention is to construct the oven in such a manner as to provide an ample supply of oxygen and yet conserve the heat. `Another object is to construct the apparatus so as to obtain the above mentioned conservation of heaty and proper amount of oxygen and at the same time have the apparatus in compact form. v
The invention will be fully understood from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying draw ings, and the novel features thereof will be pointed out and clearly defined in the claims at the close of this specification.

There is shown at 10 an outer casing havlng an oven in the form of an inverted box which is open at the` bottoml and closed at the top, sides and en'ds, the lower edge of each end member having a passway 11 for the passage` of the upper run of the carrier 12. The said casing vis mountedkon suitable supports. As shown in the drawings, it is supported as follows: The lower edges of the side walls of the casing are each formed with an inturned flange 13 whichfrests on the upper, horizontal flange 15 of a plurality of angle plates 14 whose vertical portions are bolted to the upright flanges 16 of the angle bars 17 which extend lengthwise of the casing and are supported by the frame of the machine having legs 18. Preferably the casing 10 is made of `sheet metal having of heat.

An inner casing or oven 26 is provided having top, side and end walls butopen at the bottom. This inner casing is preferably supported, as shown', by brackets consisting of angle plates 28 having flanges which are respectively bolted or` otherwise fastened to the upright side walls of the inner and outer casings. The said inner casing. or oven 1s preferably made of sheet metal and formed with inturned iianges 31 around its lower edge although the anges are not essential.
The horizontal bottom flanges 13 of the outer casing are formed with a series of apertures 29 and the top of the inner casing is formed with a plurality of apertures 30 so that there is free circulation of air through the apertures 29 inY the bottom inner casing and the partition member-2l of the outervcasing, thence down` through the air spaces between thevsivdes of rthe-inner and' outer casing andv out throughfthe aperturesvQS). The cards, are printed by any' suitable mechanism and while`,the inl; isV fstill green they should be dusted with a suitable fusible powder which will adhere to the moist and sticky ink, and the surplus' powder removed by sha-king or blowing it off, then the printed and dusted articles are placed on a part o' the conveyor which is about to enter -the oven casing. rlhe speed of the conveyor and the degree of heat should be so regulated that the fusible substance will be fused during thetravel through the oven and the articles may be removedat the outlet end in any suitable manner. 7 In an apparatus for producing raised printing, an inner casing having a top, sides \and an open bottom, a heating medium mounted therein, an outer casing surrounding the top and sides of sail inner casing and having a closed top an open bottom, said casings being spaced to form air spaces between their walls at the top and sides, the topwall of the inner casing being formed with air ports to permit the heated air t0 pass from the interior of the inner casing into-the top space between the two casings and thence down through the space between the side walls of the two casings, the outer casing extending down belowv the inner casing. each side wall of said outer' casing having an inwardly extending flange at its lower part formed with apertures for the passage of air, a conveyor for the printed articles which travels through the lower part of the casing beneath the heating medium, and a heat reflecting .plate in the lower part of the outer casing beneath that portion of the conveyor which carries the printed articles, said heat reflecting plate being of smaller dimension than said outer casing whereby passages are left around the margin of said reflecting plate.

In an apparatus for producing raised printing, an inner casing and an enclosing casing each having a closed top and sides and being open at the bottom, said casings being spaced to form air spaces between their walls at the top and sides, a heating medium within the inner casing, a conveyor for the articles which travelsk underneath the heating medium and is exposed to the heat therefrom and a heat reflecting'plate beneath the path of travel of the. articles on the conveyor, the casilgs constructed lll 5 the tops of the two casings whence it passes down through the space between the side walls, the outer casingv being formed with a outlety passages at the lower part thereof.
