To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ISAAC N. WVIL rAMs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Foltz, in the county of J elferson and State of Indiana, have invented new and useful Improvements in Barrel or Keg Stands, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to barrelor keg stands.

The object is to provide a simple and cheaply constructed device for supporting a barrel or keg in elevated position above the floor to facilitate drawing off the fluid therefrom while in a horizontal position, and to enable the barrel or keg to be tilted forwardly to drain the same when the cook or faucet is attached at the lower portion of the front head thereof.

7 Another object is to provide a stand of this character which may be rocked rearwardly and applied to the side of an upstanding barrel, there being means for engagement with the lower chines of the same to pick said barrel up, as the latter is tilted, to rest in the stand and the stand is rocked to the position for supporting the barrel in said horizontal position, there being other means carried by the stand for engagement with the floor to prevent the barrel and stand from rocking backwardly again until desired to do so.

A final object is to provide a stand for the stated purpose which is composed of a minimum number of strong and durable parts, which may be readily assembled in the form of a stand, rigidly held together without the use of bolts or other fasteners, and which may as readily be collapsed or knocked down to occupy a small space in storage.

A full and complete understanding of the invention may be obtained from a consideration of the following detailed description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, it being understood that while the drawing shows a practical form of the invention, the latter is not to be confined to strict conformity with the showing thereof, but may be changed or modified, so long as such changes or modifications mark no material departure from the salient features of the invention, as specifically pointed out in the appended claims.

Referring to the drawing, there is shown a barrel orkeg stand comprising a pair of spaced rockers, formed preferably of metal tubing of a size and strength suitable to withstand the strain to which a stand of this character may be subjected, each rocker having a straight, intermediate portion '1 adapted to normally rest upon the floor when assembled, and in position to support a barrel in the desired horizontal position, said rockers being held rigidly together, by means to be described, with the said'straight portions 1 of the same, inparallel relation to each other.

,Each rocker is provided, at one end of said straight portion with an integral, upstanding front leg 2, extending at right angles to the same and consequently in vertical position, the said legs being joined to the base portion of the rockers by a regular band 3 of relatively small radius. I

At the rear ends, each base portion 1 is provided with an upstanding, rearwardly inclined rear leg 4 which is integrally joined to said base portion by a bend 5 having a greater radius than the bend 3, for a purpose to be explained.

The open, upper ends of each of the legs 2 and 4 constitute sockets, and said legs are adapted to support barrel or keg supporting bars or members 6, preferably formed of suitable, strong bar iron, the same being curved throughout the major portion of their lengths, to conform to the cross-sectional shape of an average barrel or keg, for the purpose of receiving and supporting the same and preventing any side movement or rolling thereof when thus supported.

The supports 6 each have their terminals turned downwardly at the proper angle to enter the aforesaid sockets at the tops of the legs, and thus serve to secure said supports in proper transverse relation to the rockers for receiving the barrel or keg 7, and also serve to rigidly maintain said rockers in parallel relation to each other without danger of collapsing under the weight of the barrel, the said terminal 8 being of suiiicient length to provide a substantial bearing in the upper end of the leg.

The transverse barrel-supporting bar or member 6 attached to the upper ends of the rear legs at is provided with a double-ended hook 9, preferably formed of a stout piece of strap iron, bent to be readily attached to or detached from said bar 6, and having a return bend at its free end for engagement with the lower chine of a standing barrel to assist in picking up the same, when it is desired to place the barrel upon the stand.

One of the rockers is provided with a metallic washer 10, of a size to slide along either the base portion or the rounded bend 5, to act as a chock to rest upon the floor at the intersection of the portions 1 and 5 of said rocker, and to prevent the entire stand from rocking rearwardly, under the weight of the barrel 7 as shown in Figure 2 of the drawing.

With the stand assembled as described, it is only necessary to place a barrel or keg thereon, to rock the same rearwardly upon the rounded portions 5 of the rear legs, when the rear support 6 is brought close to the floor and in abutting relation to the sides of the barrel. The free end of the hook 9 may be engaged beneath the lower chine of the barrel 7, by slightly tilting the latter rearwardly, and then by pulling the upper portion of said barrel forwardly the same may be brought into contact with the front support 6 and the stand, together with the barrel thereon, may then be rocked .upon the bends 5 until the portions 1 rest fiat upon the floor. The washer 10 may be easily moved by the foot of the operator to slide along the rounded portion 5 of the rocker, to the position shown in Figure 1, so that the stand may be applied to the barrel in the above-described manner, and after the said barrel has been rocked into horizontal position upon the stand, as illustrated in Figure 2, the said washer 10 will gravitate to the position shown in said figure, when the same acts as a chock to prevent accidental rearward rocking of the stand and barrel due to the overhanging portion of the latter caused by the inclination of the rear legs 4:.

The rear ends of the straight portions 1 of the rockers where resting upon the floor are, by reason of the inclination of the rear legs and the greater radius of the curved bends 5 thereof, considerably nearer to the center of the barrel than are the supporting memsame, and bow-ed bers at the front end of the barrel, so that the said overhang tends to cause the barrel to tilt rearwardly which is prevented by the washer 10. When it is desired to draw the contents from the cock or faucet 11 located at the lower portion of the front head of the barrel, and the supply is low, the said barrel may be rocked forwardly, by slight effort, upon the smaller bends 3 of the front legs to permit of such withdrawal, the barrel immediately rocking back again to a hori- Zontal position.

From the foregoing it will be seen that a simple and cheaply manufactured barrel or keg stand has been provided, which may be easily and quickly assembled for use, or collapsed for storing the same, and which, when set up, may be readily applied in position to pick up a barrel and rocked to place the same thereon, the tiltable feature permitting the barrel to be easily set back upon end again when empty, and also readily permitting a full or partly filled barrel to be tilted forward to drain the contents thereof.

A stand for barrels or kegs comprising a pair of separate spaced rockers formed of tubing having upstanding terminal portions constituting front and rear legs, transversely disposed supporting bars detachably inserted in the upper ends of the front and rear legs respectively and connecting the downwardly to support a barrel or keg, connecting means for the rockers, and when disconnected from the latter permitting the stand to be collapsed.
