M. CANGEN HE'EL FAS'I'ENER Filed Aug. 18, 1924 WIM'////// 7 6 fiomsvs I Patentad Dec. 8, 925.
UNITED STATES MARX CANGEN, OF BROOKLYN, NW YORK.
HEEL FASTENER.
Applicaton fi1ed August 18, 1924.
T aZZ wizom z't may conce m.
Be it known that I, MARE CANGEN, a, citiznn of the United States, residing at Brook lyn, in the county of Kings md State of New York, bave nvented new and useful Improvements in Heel Fasteners, 01 Which the following s a specfication.
'lbe 1Wention relates to a device and method ci fastening wood heels to shoes and itprovides a pronged plate secured to the top 0'E the h-eel, the prongs being clinched m ha sole 01" (be Shoe ths rigidly holding; the heel to rbe sole. obviating the employment 0 nals.
Tbe nvention s especally designed to pr0vde a hook projecting from one end of the plate for c enterng the heel on the sole and then clinching the hook (0 the sole by forcing the hee1 aganst a last arranged in the shoe.
he present invention provides a Simplificd 1nethod of im1novably fastening the heel to the sh0e by part-ly slittng che sole, then spreading a 1ayer of g]ue m er the hee1 anx sole, nsertflg the hook nto tbe s1it and :lorcng the heel downward onto the last to c1ncb (be prongs and hook to the sole.
'G1ecofgre, t be glued heel Was held in P121'C3 011 the sole by a removable clamp or a SCIQW passed through the last, che screw \v:.s removed zzfter che hee1 was shaped and be glue set, und finally the heel was nailed 10 the sole from the inside of the shoe.
The inventian. resides more particularly in tbe novel combinatons herenafter desurbcd und clamed, referenee beingmade to the accompanying drawing in whichz- Fig. 1 represents a perspectve view of a hee. embodyng ths invention.
Fig. 2 is a vertcal section showng the l1cel positoned on the sol-e.
Fig. 8 is a transverse secton taken along abe line i? 3 of Fig. 2 showing the heel fastwened to the sole.
In the drawing the numeral 5 designates a beel which is made of Wo0d 01 suitable 1haferial and can be of any well-known shnpc. 011 the upper portion of the heel fustcned by means of screws or nails 6 a plato 7 having 2L turned end t0 form a. hook 8 and a pair of prongs 9 formed Serial No. 732,715.
by ben ding che plate upwardly at the other end. The plate is countersunk into the Wood so as to give an even or flush surface on top. Lateral spurs 10 fonning an integra-1 pzut of the hook and a notch 11 on the lower part of each prong prevents the devices I"rom being pulled out of the material.
The method of fastenng he heel to che shoe consists in partly sltting a sole 12 ai: 14. coating the top of the heel and lo-wer part of the sole with g1ue, positioning the heel Over the sole so that the hook engages the S1i-b, and then forcing the prongs into the sole by hammering down the heel on a last 15 With a metal platea 16 fixed to its bottmn. The last is arranged inside of the shoe and by its pressure t forces the hook dowmvard as indcated in dotted lines in Fg. 9 to clnch the material. At the saune time the forward prongs Will be beni; over at their. tops laterally asshown in F ig'. 3, thus rigidly fastening the heel to the shoe.
It Will be realily understood, thai: in this 1nethod the glue can be omtted but t is pre-fened to use glue or cement to fill or Waterproof the joints. It has been found by practice that the hee1 is firmly anchored to the sole after the prongs and the hook are clnched to the leather.
I claim:-
1. A heel fastener having a hook for engagemenc with a slitted sole, and prong made to clinch the sole.
2. A hee fastener comprsing a plate baving a hook fo1 engagement with a slited sole, and a prong projectng frena the plate made to clnch the sole.
3. A heel fastener comprsng a p1ate baving a turned end to form a hook for engagement wth {L slitted sole. and a prong projectng from theother end made to clinch the sole.
4. A heel fastener comprisng a plate hayng a turned end to forno a hook f01 engagement with a slitted sole, and a prong fomned by bending the other end of the plate upwardly made to clinch the sole.
A hee1 fastener comprising a pate having il tu1ned end 0 f011n a hook for engagement wth a sitted sole, a par 01 pron s formed by bendng the othe r end of the plate upwardly made to clinch che sole, and means f01 fastening the plate to a heel.
6. The method of fastening a heel to a shoe sol-e, which consists in providng che heel with a hook and a prong, slitting the sole to engage the hook, forcing the prong into the sole, and clinchng the hook and prong to the sole.
7. The Inethod 0f fastening aheel to a shoe sole, which consists in provding che 10 heel With a plate havng a hook at one end and il par of prongs at the other end, slittng the sole bo engage Che hook, forcing the prongs into the sole, and clinching the hook and prongs to the sole.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
MAR-K CANGEN.
