To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, Gnonon ERNEST- and State of tlhio, have invented certain new and useful lirmprovements in Combined Rail Anchors, Chairs, and Cushions, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a. combined rail anchor, chair and cushion for use in connection with reinforced concrete cross ties, and has for its object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a device of the class referred to, fornot only setting up a satisfactory cushion for a track rail, but further anchoring the rail in position with respect to the tie.

Further objects of the invention are to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth,

v 2 a combined rail anchor, chair and cushion for use in connection with reinforced con crete cross ties, and which is simple in its construction and arrangement, strong, durable, compact, thoroughly efficient in its use, conveniently set up with respect to the tie, and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture.

With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as hereinafter more specifically described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein is shown an embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications can be resorted to which come within the scope of the claims hereunto appended.

In the drawings wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts throughout the several views Figure 1 is a section on line 1-1 of Figure 2, showing the adaptation of a combined rail. anchor, chair and cushion, in accordance with this invention, with respect to a concrete cross tie.

Figure 2 is a top plan View of the device showing the adaptation thereof in connection with the tie.

Figure 3 is a section on line 3 -3, Fig ure 1.

Mounted in the groove 2 and abutting againstthe opposed side walls thereof is a rectangular cushioning element 4 constructcd of wood. The height of the element dis greater than the depth of the groove 2, whereby the element 1 will permanently project above the top 3 of the tie 1. of the element at is the same as the width of the tie 1, whereby the side edges of said ele ment will be flush with the sides of the tie 1.

Bositioned on the cushioning element 4 is a chair member 5 in the form of an inverted channel iron of a length less than the length of said element 4,3111d the said chair 5 has the sides 6 thereof of a height to enclose the sides of the element 1 and to extend against the sides of the tie 1. When the chair 5 is mounted in position, each of the ends thereof is arranged inwardly with respect to an end of the element 1. The top of the chair 5, between its transverse center and inner end is formed centrally thereof with an opening 7, which registers with an opening 8 formed in the element 4:, and extending through said registering openings 7, 8, as well as being embedded in the tie 1, is a vertically disposed anchoring bolt 9 provided at The width lower terminal portion threaded, as as 11.

Threadedly engaging with the lower end of the bolt9, as well as being embedded in the tie 1 and flush with the lower face of the latter is a securing nut 12, having positioned thereon a washer 13 of a diameter to, project from the nut 12, and the said washer 13 is embedded in the tie body 1. I

The track rail, which is indicated at 14:, has its web 15 provided with an opening 16. The base 17 of the track rail 1 1 is mounted on the chair 5, extends transversely thereof and is positioned between the transvserse center and outer end of the chair.

The track rail 14 is connected to the anchoring bolt 9 through the medium of a securing element, referred to generally by the reference character 18 and which consists of a circular head or body portion 19 and a shaped chair men 7 web for clamping it to the plane of the head 19. The outer portion 21 extends through the opening 16 and carries a pair of washers 22 and a pair of clamping nuts 23. Each of the washers is positioned against the inner face of the clamping nut and further abuts against one face of the web 15. The nuts 23 threadedly engage with the outer and inner parts ot the outer portion 21 of the shank ot the securing element.

The head 19 of the securing element is of a diameter greater than the diameter oi the washer and the latter projects from the l end 10 of the bolt 9.

A combined rail ancho r chair and cushion for use with reintorced concrete cross ties, in accordance with this invention not only provides a chair for the track rail, but also a satisfactory cushion therefor as well as includes means for SGCL 'oly anchoring the track rail with the concrete cross tie and it is thought that the many advantages of a device, in accordance with this invention, and for the purpose set forth, can be readily understood, and although the preferred construction is as illustrated and described, yet it is to be understood that changes in the details oi construction can he had which will fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.

llhat I claim is 1. A device for the purpose set forth comprising a cushioning clement adapted to be nu'iunted in and ot a height to project above a concrete cross tie an inverted channelted on said element an d of a height to overlap the latter and the sides ot the cross tie a securing element provided with a head iniunted on said chair and further including an otiset outer portion ere tending through the web of a track rail and carrying means engaging the sides of the said element, a headed anchoring bolt extending: through the head of said element, said chair and cushion and adapted to be embedded in the cross tie, and means engaging with the lower end of the bolt and embedded in the cross tie for coupling the bolt with the latter.

A device tor the purpose set forth comprising a cushioning element for mounting on a concrete cross tie, a rail chair mounted on said element, a securing element seating on Said chair and including an outer portion extending through the web of a track rail said outer portion carrying: means engaging the sides of the web "for clamping said element therewith, and means extending through that part of the moment mounted on the chair and turther er-tteuding through the latter and cushion and embedded in the tie for anchoring the tracl: rail in position 3.
