yPATENT OFFICE.
SIGUARD STEVENSON, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, 'ASSIGNOR .OF ONE-THIRD T0- TO MAGNUS YOUNGBERG, BOTH 0F BROOK- GAME.
Application led June 14, 19.21. Serial No. 477,352.
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I,. SIeUAnn STEvnNsoN, a subject of the King of Norway,\residing at-337 President Street, in the borough of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Games, of which the followingis a specification.
This invention relates to games, and more particularly to the adaptation and arrange' ment of the parts, as will be more fully hereinafter pointed out.
There arev numerous games on the market involving the throwing of a ball Vby the contestant which knocks down certain objects, all of which have to be replaced in position by the contestant.
My device furnishes means whereby the contestant operates the game and replaces the members dislodged by the throwing of the ball without leaving the position of play, and the ball is also automatically returned to the position convenient to the player.
Referring to the dr-awings Figure 1 1s a perspective of my device; Figure 2 is a vertical section on the line 2-2 in Figure 6'; Figure 3 is a front elevation from the foot of the game showing a portion cut away in order to show certain operative parts. Figure 4 is a detail of the indicating plate shown in Figure 3; Figure 5 is a cross-section on the line 5-5 in Figure 4; and Figure 6 is a top plan view of my device.
In the drawings'7 isa frame in which is rigidly mounted analley 8 which is slightly pitched downward in the direction of the head or indicating end of the game. This alley 8 has a sharp decline 9 in the same direction as 8, ending in a series of pocket-s 10 adapted to receive a ball 11 as it is rolled along the alley 8 and goes down the sharp decline 9 into Ithe pockets 10.
At the foot of each pocket 10 is a lever 12 which is pivoted on a shaft 13. which is rigidly secured to the frame 7 at 41. The leverv 12 also has a counter-balance 14 and an upper finger member 15. A series of rods 16 are adapted to rest in normal position upon each of the finger members 15, and said rods 16 run through guide rods 17 and 18 whichvare rigidly secured to the frame`7 on the interior thereof. The rods 16 each have a seat member 20 for retaining said rods in their lowered position.
There is also rigidly 'secured to each of the rods 16 at-2l an indicating plate 22 which has punched out therefrom retaining'lips 23 into which a card or other indicating means as desired may be mounted.
A lifting bar 24 is mounted in two guides 25 which are rigidly mounted at 42 to the sub-frame 19 at each end of the bar 24. Said bar 24 is raised and lowered by means of the manually operated handle 26 controlled by the guide member 27. Saidhandle 26 is secured toa lever. 29 at 28, and to the lever 29 at 30 is secured a connecting rod 31. The other end of the connecting rod 31 is secured at 32 to a crank 33. Said crank 33 is rigidly secured at lits other end to a Shaft 34, to which shaft isalso rigidly secured a lever 35 at one end, and to the other end of the lever 35 at 36 is secured a connecting rod 37, which is at its other end secured to a lifting bar 24 at 38. The shaft 34 is rotatably mounted to the frame 7 by means of brackets 44, and at the opposite end of said shaft from the crank 33 a lever 35a is loosely mounted to a connecting rod 37, which is also connected at its upper end to the lifting bar24 so that when.- evr the crank 33 is turned together with the shaft 34 the connecting rods 37 and 37 operate together to lift the lifting bar 24 through the levers 35 and 35a.
At the head of the game or indicating end are three rows of openings 39 which are in alignment. The indicating plates -22 are also arranged in series'of three which are in alignment, but which are staggered, as shown in Figure 2, so that they will drop clear of each other.
A lower alley or runway 40 is so mounted in the frame that the balls 11 as they drop through the pockets 10 and off from the levers 12 will drop onto said runway 4() which is inclined toward the foot of the game, thereby causing the balls to roll back to the starting point. A guide member 41a is rigidly mounted in said runway 40 so that the balls 11 will be guided to an opening 42a in the .frame 7, at which point is rigidly mounted a container 43 adapted to receive and hold the balls 11.
In playing my game the contestant stands at the foot of the game, and taking one of the balls 11 will roll it along the alley 8, and it will ass along down the incline 9 into one of t 1e pockets 10, thereby dropping onto one-of the levers 12, which will throw said lever 12 and itslinger 15 out of normal position so as to release the particular rod 16 which the said linger l5 supports. Said particular rod 16 will therefore drop so that its seat 20 will rest upon the lifting bar 24, and the particular indicator 22 carried by the said rod 16 Will drop into position so that it can be seen` in its particular opening 39. 'lhe other contestants can then roll a ball ll in a similar manner with a similar result, and then to clear the indicating means one of the contestants will operate the handle 26, thereby returning all of the various rods 16 to their normal position together with the indicating means carried thereon by means of the lifting bar 24, which motion is transmitted from the handle 26 through the lever 29, the connecting rod 31, the crank 33, the shaft 34, the levers 35 and 35, the connecting rods 37 and 37, and the lifting bar 24. 'lhe levers 12, because of the counter-balance 14 will always return to the normal position as soon as the ball 11 has passed olf the lever l2, and the ball 11 in eacii case after dropping olf the lever 12 will return on the runway 40 back to the container 43.
Many variations in the particular construction of the device may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention.
I claim:
1. In a gaine, the combination of a hall, an alley, an incline, a lurality of pockets at the end of said inc ine the upper ends of which pockets are below the level of said alley, a series of counter-balanced levers having the counter-balanced portion suspended under each of said pockets, a series of rods each carrying an indicating means supported by each of the upper portions of said levers, a head portion encasing said levers and rods having sight openings for each indicating mea-ns and into aiinement with which openings said indicating means are to be dropped, manual means for restoring said indicating means to the normal position, and automatic means for returning said ball to the starting point.
