Description

W. A. SELTMAN N Filed May 28, 1923 Nov. 17, 1925- MEANS FOR SUPPORTING FLEXIBLE TUBES IN AN UPRIGHT POSITION Patented Nov. 17, 1925.
UNITED STATES,
WALTER A. SELTMA NN, OF PASSAIC, NEW JERSEY.
MEANS FOR SUPJPORTING FLEXIBLE TUBES IN AN UPRIGH'I POSITION.
Application filed May 28, 1923.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, I/VALTER A. SELTMANN, a citizen of the United States, and residing at Passaic, in the county of Bergen and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Means for Supporting Flexible Tubes in an Upright- Position, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to flexible tubes and particularly to the provision of means on said tubes for supporting the tubes in an upright position on a table or other support; and the object of the invention is to provide a tube of the class specified with projecting supporting means formed integral with the material of said tube and preferably the discharge end of the tube, whereby said tube may be supported in an upright inverted position, said supporting means normally projecting beyond the discharge member of the tube; and with this and other objects in view, the invention consists in a tube of the class and for the purpose specified which is simple in construction, eflicient in use and which is constructed as hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Fig. 1 is a side view of a flexible tube made according to my invention, one end portion of the tube being broken away and shown in section; and,
Fig. 2 is a view similar to Fig. 1 showing only a part of the tube and showing av modification.
In Fig. 1 of the drawing, I have shown at 5 a flexible tube such as commonly used as a container for dental creams, paints, soaps, medicinal preparations and various other products and in forming the tube 5 or the head end portion 6 thereof provided with a threaded discharge member 7 which is normally closed by a cap 8, the periphery of the head end 6 is extended to form a plurality of projecting members 9. The free ends of the members 9 are comparatively narrow as shown at 10, and where said members join the body portion ofthe tube, they are flared as indicated at 11, and as Serial No. 641,822.
aforesaid the members 9 are formed integral with the material of the tube or the material from which the tube 5 is constructed as is clearly shown in Fig. 1 of the drawing.v
The members 9 project beyond the cap 8 as clearly shown and serve as leg members for supporting the tube 5 on a table, shelf or other support, in a vertical position.
In Fig. 2 of the drawing, I have shown a slight modification in which I substitute for the leg members 9 an annular projecting flange 12 which is also formed from the material of the tube 5 as clearly shown in said figure, and the free edge of the flange 12 projects beyond the cap 8, and the flange 12 forms supporting means for the tube 5 whereby said tube may be placed in an in- 'ated and said tubes may be placed on and supported on a table, shelf or other support in a neat, sanitary and attractive position, and will also take up less room on a predetermined support when mounted in this position, and while I have shown certain details of construction for carrying my invention into effect and have shown a predetermined method of forming the supporting means for the tube, it will be understood that I am not necessarily limited in these respects, and various changes in and modifications of the construction herein shown and described may be made within the scope of the appended claims without departing from the spirit of my invention or sacrificing its advantages.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A tube of the class. described fashioned to form a discharge member, a transverse end wall and a tubular supporting member fashioned from the material of the tube by turning the material of the tube backwardly upon itself, said supporting member extending beyond the discharge member of the tu e.
2. A tube of the class described fashioned tube, and the outside dimensions 01 which to form a discharge member, a transverse correspond to the outside dimensions of said end wall and a tubular supporting member end of the tube. 10 fashioned from the material of the tube by In testimony that I claim the foregoing as 5 turning the material of the tube baekwardmy invention I have signed my name this 1y upon itself, said supporting member ex- 25th day of May, 1923. tending beyond the discharge member of the ALTER A. SELTMANN.
