Further objects-are to provide a hand grip for an undertaker which is of attractive appearance, which may be contracted to a compact formation, and which is readily handled.

The end of the member 7 is finished by means of an end plate 15 corresponding to the end 2 of the main device, as may be seen from Figures 1 and 2.

The top of the movable portion consists of a channel like member having an upper portion 16 provided with a downwardly extending end 17 and downwardly extending lateral flanges18. These flanges 18 fit in channel strips 19 secured to the top 3 of the main device and are adapted to slide inwardly and outwardly, as may be seen from. reference to Figures 1 and 3.

The handle consists of a hand grip portion 20 provided with snap fasteners 21 and 22 adapted to engage a central ring carrying bracket 23 and either of two outer brackets 24 or 25. For example when the device is in its extended position, as shown in Figure 1, the handle is secured to the brackets 23 and 24:. When in its contracted position, as shown in Figures 3 and 4:, the handle is secured to the brackets 23 and 25. This is readily secured by means oi the snap ' lasteners 21 and 22 carried by the ends of the device. Obviously, the brackets may be slidable if desired, and may be slid to any suitable position although the present form is considered one of the simple and effective forms of positioning the handle approximately over the center of gravity of the loaded hand grip.

It is to be noted that the top of the main portion is hingedly joined to the lower portion, as indicated at 26, and is provided with any suitable form of lock 2? on its other side, as may be seen from Figure In using the device, assuming it is in its extended position, the torso or main body portion of the corpse is positioned within the main body portion 1 and the legs project into the extended portion, thus positioning the major portion of the weight directly beneath the handle.

It is to be understood that although the hand grip has been described as extensible in one direction only, obviously it may be made extensible from either or both ends in an obvious manner.

It will be seen, therefore, that a hand grip for undertakers has been provided which is eminently suited for the use of under-takers, which may be readily adapted to carry corpses of children from hospitals, scenes of accidents and other places, which may be readily transported and is of simple and strong construction and of attractive appearance. Although the invention has been described in considerable detail, it is to be understood that the invention may be variously embodied and is, therefore, to be limited only as claimed.

I claim:

1. A hand grip'tor undertaker-s compris ing a main body portion, a top hinged there to, a handle secured to the top, and an ex tensible portion having a bottom part telescopically secured in the main body portion and having a top telescopically secured in the top of the main portion.

2. A hand grip for undertakers comprisin a main body portion, a top hinged thereto, a handle secured to the top, said handle being adjustable longitudinally of said top and adapted to occupy any one of several positions, and an extensible portion having a bottom part telescopically secured in the main body portion and having a top telescopically secured in the top of the main portion.

3. A hand grip comprising a main body portion, a top hinged thereto, an extensible body portion slidably carried by the main body portion, guides carried by the main body portion and slidably receiving the extensible body portion, an extensible top portion slid-ably carried by the top of the main portion, and guides carried by the top of the main portion and slidably holding the lower edge of the extensible top portion.

4. A hand grip comprising a main body portion, a top hinged thereto, an extensible body portion slidably carried by the main body portion, guides carried by the main body portion and slidably receiving the extensible body portion, an extensible top portion slidably carried by the top of the main portion, guides carried by the top of the main portion and slidably holding the lower edge of the extensible top portion, and a latch for detachably locking said extensible body portion to said main body portion.
