have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Machines for Producing "throwing the sand out-from the container and into the core box or packing it there respectively.
The invention consists mainly therein that the injector is combined with a valve device manageable or adjustable respectively by hand, by means of which valve device the injector maybe-brought to work alternately continuously or discontinuously for regulating the amount of thrown out sand.
In the accompanying. drawings is shown asuitable embodiment of the invention. Figs. 1 and 2 show a machine according to this invention seen from two directions at right angles to each other, Fig. 1 being partly a sectional view. Fig. 3 is a vertical section through the machine andFig. 4 is a plan view of the same.
In the drawing 1 designates the container arranged on a frame 2 and consisting of a conical chamber, of sheet metal provided with a removable cover 3. The bottom of the container is spherically rounded and provided with a central outlet 4, from which leads a short pipe 5. To this pipe is by means of a nipple 6 joined a valve chest 7 provided with a lateral nozzle 8. The valve in the valve chest consists of a usual disc valve with a spindle 9 and a seat 10, which latter is part of the nipple 6. By means of this valve the outlet for the sand is choked or closed. At the side of the container is arranged a valve device for regulating the acting compressed air and thereby the amount of the sand thrown out. Said device, of which a detail section on the line C-D of Fig. 2 is shown in Fig. 1, consists of a disc valve placed in a valve chest 12 to which compressed air is led through a pipe 18, the spindle 13 of said valve stretching through the valve chest up into a closed 192 Serial No. 72 ,722.

The two valve chests 12 and 7 are joined to each other'by means of a pipe 20. ln the drum 14 a wheel is journalled cen'trically riglit over the spindle 13, w-l'iich wheel all round its periphcry is provided with a number of projections or teeth 22. Under said wheel, which may be rotated or oscillated by means of a crank 23, is arrangeda swinga'ble arm 24-, thei'ree end of which rests against the spindle 13. On the upper side directly-over the spindle the arm is provided witha rounded shoulder, intended to cooperate with the projections 22, in such a way that the arm 24 is pressed down a distance and opens the valve 16, 17 each time a projection by means of the crank isbrought to pass said shoulder or stop above it. For regulating the pressing down of the spindle: the shaft of the wheel 21 is journall ed in and between arms 27, which in their turn are swingably journalled in the drum lt'and may be fastened in different positions by means of a screw bolt 28 accessible from out side and running in grooves 29 in the end walls of the drum. From the pipe 20 leads a pipe 31 to the up per part of the container 1, which latter pipe is provided with a cook 30. In the wall of the container is made a longitudinal slot 32 covered by a glass plate and intended to make possible the observation. of the sand in the container 1. For reading the air pressure the" machine is provided with a manometer 33, communicating with the valve chest 12. All main parts described above are detachably joined together.
The machine works in the following manner. The container having been filled with sand, the cover and the cock 30 having been closed, the compressed air is let in through the pipe 18, which is provided with a cock, not shown in the drawing. Each time the valve 13, 16 is opened the compressed a-ir rushes'past the canal 5 and can ries away sand as a result of the vacuum formed in the lower part of the container. The amount ot-sand thus thrown out from the machine at each air pressure impulse evidently depends upon the pressure of the compressed air, the position of the sand choker 9, 10 and the time during which the valve 16, 17 is acted upon by projections 22 on the wheel 21. The pressure of the comlltl pressed air is regulated by means of the cock in the pipe 18, and the projections 22 are acted upon thereby that the wheel 21 is adjusted in a suitable altitude, and the adjustments of said adjusting means are in each special case determined according to the quality of the cores to be made. The machine having been adjusted the nozzle and the valve chest are joined by means of a tube for example.
As a special advantage of this machine may be mentioned the facility of movement of the valve device for regulating the sand delivery. The Working result of the machine is dependent upon how the sand delivery is regulated or varied. The valve device being so easily manipulated it is fully in the power of the workman, and he can at each moment adjust the sand delivery after the requirements or the form of the core box and the like. This adjustment is simply attained thereby that the crank 23 momentarily is placed in one or another position by regulating it at intervals or by greater or smaller oscillations. Hereby one of course had to prevent in a suitable Way counterpressure to form in the core chest.
In order to clean the interior of the con tainer 1 the compressed air is from above let into it through the pipe 31 and thereafter the crank 28 is rotated until the container is fully cleared from said, which may be observed through the slot 32.
The embodiment of the machine described above is intended mainly for special work and only suitable composed sand ought to be used in it. Other embodiments of the machine are also possible, which embodiments, are more suitable for diverse kinds of work and by which the quality of the sand is of less importance. In the machine cores for small cylinder-belts, canal valves and jour nals may easily be produced.
Such working material as Waxed thread,
iron wire and the like, which are often used in the production of cores, will be quite unnecessary.
The machine may ot course be altered in many ways Within the scope of the invention.
Having now described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. Machine for producing molding cores by means of core boxes, including a container for molding sand, an injector joined to the outlet of the container and using compressed air for throwing the sand out from the container into the core box, and an adjustable ha11d-valve for the injector arranged in such a manner as to be opener and 1 closed intermittently or slowly, as desired, in order that small quantities of sand may be intermittently thrown into the mold.
2. Machine according to claim 1 char-ac terized thereby, that the valve device, which is combined with the injector, consists of a valve including a movable spring actu ated valve body and spindle. a swingable arm against the free end of which the spindle abuts, and a manually rotatable and adjustably journalled toothed member, the teeth of which coact with the swingable arm so that the valve is opened each time a tooth passes the arm or stops opposite it.
3. Machine according to claim 1, wherein a valve is arranged in the outlet canal of the said container for closing and regulating the sand supply.
4. A machine in accordance with claim 1, wherein a valve controlled pipe leads to the upper part of the sand container and is joined to the compressed air supply for use in cleaning the sand container.
