FAUCET FOR SODA FOUNTAINS.
Application filed January 19, 1925. Serial No. 3,376.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM Mormon, a citizen of the United States, residing in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented certain Improvements in Faucets for Soda Fountains, of which the following is a specification.
lvfiy invention relates to certain improvements in faucets of the type used as soda water fountains when the water is under considerable pressure and where it is neces sary to have the valve seated firmly to prevent leakage.
The object of the invention is to construct the faucet so that the adjusting means for holding the valve to its seat is not affected by the movement of the valve. The invention relates to other details of construction. which will be fully described hereinafter.

An ordinary goose neck faucet 1 for a soda fountain is shown in Figs. 1 and 2, having, at itsupper end, a cylinder valve casing 2, in which is secured a seat 3 for a rotating valve 4:. The nozzle 5 of the faucet has assages therein connected to the ports 6 and One of these passages is smaller than the other to provide for two different pressures, which are required in standard soda water apparatus.
The valve 4; and its seat 8 are located off center in respect to the cylindrical casing 2 and the, cap 8. The cap has a screwthreaded periphery, the threads of which. mesh with the internal thread of the casing, and is the means by which the valve is adjusted to its seat. The cap is slotted, or otherwise formed, to receive a screw driver, or other adjusting tool.
The valve 4 has a recess 9 at the back to receive the presser pin 10, which is provided with an elongated head 11, against which r the cap 8 presses. The cap has an internal.
flange 12. The head 11 of the pin rests against this flange, as shown clearly in Fig. 3, preventing the pin turning when the valve is turned.
By locating the valve 4 at one side of the center of the casing and its cap 8, the movement of the valve can not turn the cap 8 so that, when the valve is adjusted to its seat by turning the cap, the cap remains in the position in which it is adjusted, holding the valve to its seat and preventing leakage at the valve.
On the periphery of the valve are gear teeth 13, which mesh with the teeth 14, on the operating lever 15, which is provided with a suitable handle 16. The lever 15 is mounted on a pivot pin 17 which is secured to the casing, as shown in Fig. 2. The lever extends through a slot in the casing. The ends 18 and 19 of the slot form stops to limit the movement of the lever and the valve so that the port 20 of the valve registers with the port 6, when in one extreme position, and registers with the port 7, when in the other extreme position. When the lever is in the central position, the valve is closed.
In the valve seat 3 is a control inlet passage 21, which is connected to a passage in the goose neck of the faucet. This inlet passage 21 registers at all times with a central port 22 in the valve 4, which is connected to the port 20, as illustrated in Fig. 2, so that, when the valve is turned in either direction, the liquid flows through the faucet.
The general design of the faucet may be changed without departing from the essential features of the invention. The invention may be used on other types of faucets, if desired.
I claim:
1. The combination in a faucet, of a casing having a valve seat at one side of the center of the casing; a valve mounted on the seat; and an adjustable cap enclosing the valve, said cap being concentrically mounted on the casing and arranged eccentrically in relation to the valve seat so that the cap is not affected by the movement of the valve.
2. The combination in a faucet, of a cylindrical casing having a screw-thread; a cylindrical cap having threads meshing with those of the casing, the casing having a valve seat at one side of the center of rotation of the cap; and a cylindrical valve mounted on the valve seat and having a pin bearing against the cap at one side of its center.

The combination in a faucet, of a casing; a cap adjustably mounted in the casing and arranged to be turned for adjustment, said casing having a valve seat at one side of the center of the cap; a rotating valve mounted on the seat; means for rotating the valve; and an adjusting pin having an extended head bearing against the in side of the cap, said cap having an internal flange that prevents the adjusting pin turning with the valve.
5. The combination in a faucet, of a eylindrical casing; a threaded cap mounted in the casing, said casing having a valve seat at one side of the center of rotation of the cap; a valve mounted on the seat and having a series of gear teeth in its periphery; and
a lever having teeth meshing With the gear teeth of the valve, said lever being pivoted Within the casing and having a handle extending through a slot in the casing, the ends of the slot forming stops to limit the movement of the valve, the valve having a port arranged to register with either of the two ports in the valve sea and having a central admission port aligning With the admission port in the valve seat.
6. The combination in a faucet, of a cylindrical casing having an internal screw thread at one end; a cap having an external screw thread adapted to the threads of the casing and having an internal flange, the casing having a valve seat at one side of the center of rotation of the cap; a rotating valve mounted on the seat and having a recess at its back; an adjustable pin mounted in the recess and having an elongated head bearing against the cap Within the flange, the valve having a series of gear teeth in its periphery; an operating lever meshing with the gear teeth; and means for limiting the movement of the lever, the seat having two ports and the valve having a single port arranged to be moved in alignment With either of the ports of the valve seat, on turning the valve.
