AUGUSTINUS EDVARD JONSSON, F LDINGO VILLASTAD, SWEDEN.
DRYTNG APrAaa'rUs.
Application nlea April 22, 1925. serial No. 25,039.
To all whom z't may concer/n.: Be it known that I, AUGUs'rINUs EDVRD JoNssoN, a subject o f the King of Sweden, residing at Lidingo Villastad, Sweden, have invented new and useful Improvements in Drying Apparatus, of which the' following is a specification. s
This invention relates to such drying apparatus which are provided with stirring means and in which the goods is dried under a great vacuum by means of heating surfaces, which are arranged in the apparatus and also may serve as distributers or spreaders for the drying goods and eventually divide the apparatus in several compartments or chambers. In such known drying apparatus the desired vacuum is obtained by means of a pump or the like, connected to the drying apparatus by a conduit, and
screws or lthe like, 'arranged upon a sllaft rotated from the outside of the drying apparatus. The experience, however, has proved that it is extremely diicult to eect and maintain an air tight journalling of the said shaft in such drying apparatus, for which reason it has not been possible to maintain in any desired degree the desired vacuum in drying apparatus of that kind.
According to the present invention this diiiculty is overcome in a very simple manner by the arrangement of .the drying apparatus movably upon external bearings without the use of any shaft passing through it and by connecting the vacuum pump with the dryin apparatus by means of one or vmore lexi le conduits which are firmly connected to the said apparatus. By giving the drying apparatus an oscillating movement one or some turns the necessary stir'- ring of the drying goods is elfected, while at the same time the drying apparatus remains completely tight, without any studing boxes or the like, so that the work of the pump is limited to the removal of the vapors and gases gene-rated during the drying operation.
ln the accompanying drawings a constructional form of a drying apparatus, arranged according to the present invention is illustrated inside elevationb in Fig. 1, in cross the stirring vis pro-duced by wings, endless section in Fig. 2 and in an end view ill Fig. 3. The drying apparatus consists of a cylini dric container 1 which is oscillating upon rollers 2; this container is not provided with 55 any shaft passing through it, thus render- -ing stufling boxes and the like unnecessary.
It is oscillated by means of a motor 3, which is' automatically 'reversible and turns the container 1 by pinions 14 gearing with 60. toothed rims 15. 4t and 5 are chambers which are fed with steam, hot water or any other suitable heatin iluid thro-ugh the flexible conduits 6, firm y connected to the container, while the cooled heating fluid escapes through the also flexible conduit 7 firmly connected to the container. The heating chambers 4 and 5 are connected with one another so that an effective distribution of the heating fluid is obtained. 8 areopen- 70 ings for the introduction of the corn to be dried, which corn at the emptying of the container is tipped out in the ducts 12 at the sides of the container. c Y
The vacuum required for an efiective and rapid drying is caused by the conduits 10, which are connected to a vacuum pump by an intermediate condenser 9 land also to the container l in such a manner that a completely air tight connection between these two 30 members is obtained, whereby the pump also by small dimensions will be able tp maintain a very high vacuum in the container. For guiding Ithe flexible conduits 6, 7 and 10 a support 11 of suitable kind may be used and the said conduits may also at that part of them surrounded by the support be reinforced for preventing their wear. The apparatus for generating the vacuum may of course be of any suitabley construction for instance an ejector pump.
Having new particularly described the nature of my invention and the manner of its operation, what I claim is:
1. Drying apparatus with stirring means, in which the goods is dried under a great vacuum by means of heating surfaces, situated in the apparatus, characterized thereby, that the apparatus is movably 'mounted upon bearings and connected with 10G a vacuum pump by flexible conduits for the purpose of permitting an oscillating movement of the apparatus one or more turns for stirring the goods Without Ithe necessity of using stung-b-oxes or the like.
2. A constructional form of the drying apparatus es claimed in the preceding Gleim to be used if the heatin means consist of steam or hot Water chem rs, characterized thereby, that the conduits for carrying the meme@ heating fluid to and from the chambers also are iexible and firmly fc-onnected to the l@ drying apparatus in such a manner that vthey permit the oscillating movement of the drying apparatus.
lin testimony whereof l have signed my name to this specification.
AUGUSTNUS EDVARD JONSSON.
