' ments in separable rims for motor vehicles and its particular object is to provide a locking ring for the rim of the character described. It is proposed to provide a lockin ring that can be easily secured in place an easily removed. It is further proposed to use a. simple flat ring for this purpose which engages one side of the felloe and extends beyond'the same for holding the rim in place. It is further intended to provide means which will firmly lock the ring so as to prevent the same from working loose after it has been secured in place.
The preferred form of my invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which Figure 1 represents a side view of a 1 wheel having my ring attached thereto, F igure 2 an enlarged detail view showing the particular construction of my locking means, Figure 3 a cross-section along line 33 of Figure 1, Figure 4 a cross section along line 4-4 of Figure 2 and Figure 5 a section taken along line V-V of Figure 2, showing the locking means both in an operative and in an inoperative position. While I have shown only the preferred form of the invention I wish to have it understood that various changes or modifications may be made within the scope of the claim hereto attached without departing from the spirit of the invention.

The felloe is provided with a plurality of transverse bolts (7) terminating at the outside of the felloe in projections (8) rising from the face of the felloe on an incline as shown in Figure (4). These projections are preferably of rectangular cross-sections. Thering (6) is provided with a corresponding number of slots (9) adapted to engage the slanting proj ections of the felloe. It will be readily seen that in order to secure the ring to the felloe I it is necessary to cause the slots to register with their respective projections and to slightly turn the ring to complete the engagement. This turning motion is brought, about by means of the cam (11) secured on a pin (12) rotatably supported in the felloe (3). The cam operates in a" perforation (13) in the ring and when the pin 12) 'is turned to I the right the cam forces the whole ring to the right whereby the latter due to the engagement of its slots with the slanting prov jections of the felloe is pressed tightly against the latter. The pin (12) may be actuated by any suitable means, as for instance, by a monkey wrench engaging its squared end (14).
To look the cam in its final or active position I provide a lock nut (16) which threadedly engages the pin (12) in adjacent relation to the cam (11). This nut is shaped so as to normally not project over the outlines of the cam (11) and therefore does not interfere with the pressing of the ring on the felloe nor with the turning operation. After the ring has assumed its final position the lock nut may be turned a little further than the cam by means of a wrench engaging its flat sides (17) and it will then project beyond the outlines .of the cam and engage the marginal portion of the ring defining the recess (13) with a resulting binding action between the nut and the ring which prevents the former from working loose and holds the cam in place.
The operation of my device will be readily understood from the foregoing description. To secure the ring in place it is only necessary to engage the slots (9) with the projections (8) and to then turn the pin (12) by means of a wrench when the cam (11)-will force the ring in close contact with the felloe.
