PArnR-BLANK-Fnnnire MEGHANISM' Application filed .Tune 30, 1922. Serial No. 572,050.
To all whom t may concern Be it known that we, "HENRY BRADY and ADIN WV. HILSINGER, citizens of the United States, residing at Bloomfield, N. J., and
Orange, N. J., respectively, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Paper-BlanlrFeeding Mechanism, of which the following is a specification, reference being` had therein to the accompanying drawing.
Our invention relates to improvements in blank feeding mechanism, and is adapted for use in paper box or tray making machines,
and more particularly has reference to means for feeding the blanks beneath a plunger or former, said feeding means being adapted to be withdrawn from the path of movement of said plunger or former as the same operates.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, Fig. 1 illustrates in perspective, parts being broken away, a suitable mechanism of a paper tray making machine embodying an application of my invention. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the guides and stops against which the blank is fed and showing the rolls which are moved out of the path of the plunger.
3 indicates a sprocket chain for driving the sprocket t upon the shaft 5 mounted in bearings such as 6 and carrying sprocket 7 with chain 8 which passes over the sprocket 9 upon the shaft 1() which also carries the si sprocket 11 and chain 12 which engages the sprocket 13 upon the shaft 14 carrying pulleys 15-15.
16 is another shaft mounted in bearings such as 17-17 and pivotally mounted thereupon are levers or brackets 18-18 carrying at their outer extremity rollers 19-19 adapted to rest upon the pulleys 15-15 as shown. As the sheet is fed leftwardly between rollers such as 20-20, and 21-21, the sheet or blank passes therefrom between the rollers 15 15, and 19--19, and from there the outer margins of the blank or sheet pass between the adjustable guides 22 until the blank reaches the ends of the guides or adjustable stops indicated by the reference character 23 where it is now in position to be operated upon by the plungers or formers and other operating mechanism for conveying or shaping the same into a container or tray, but in order to accomplish this, the
rollers 19-19 must be withdrawn out of position to clear a path for the movement of said plungers or formers. For that purpose the shaft 24 carrying the arms or bearings 17-17 is provided with a lever 25 having pivotally mounted at the outer extremity a roller 26 which rests upon the face of the cam 27 upon the shaft 5 so that the shaft 24 is oscillated with each revolution of the shaft 5, thereby drawing` the rollers 19-19 right- 65 wardly just before the operation of the formers or plungers and leftwardly immediately thereafter to feed the next strip which continues to pass leftwardly between said rollers nntil reaching the stops 23 when the blank is exactly in position for forming.
Adjusting straps such as 30 may be secured to the guides 22 and to the frame 31V for adjusting the separation of said guides, the straps being provided with slits such as 32 and screws 33 for securing the same.
Of course it will be understood that various modications may be made in the construction and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit of the invention as S0 claimed.
7e claim:
1. In a blank feeding device of the class described, pairs of contacting rolls for passing the blanks successively beneath a forming mechanism, and in combination therewith a stop for controlling the feed of said blanks, and means for withdrawing part of said feeding rolls from the path of movement of said` forming mechanism. 9o
2. In a blank feeding device of the class described, pairs of contacting rolls for passing the blanks successively beneath a forms ing mechanism, and in combination there with a stop for controllingl the feed of said blanks, and means for withdrawing part of said feeding rolls from theV path of movement of said forming mechanism, and means for securing said stop in predetermined positions.
3. In a blank feeding device of the class described, pairs of contacting rolls for passing the blanks successively beneath the forming mechanism, and means for withdrawing said rolls from the path of movement of said forming mechanism.
4. In a blank feeding device of the class described, pairs of contacting rolls for passing the blanks successively beneath the forming mechanism, a pair of side guides for controlling the direction of feed of said blanks, and means for withdrawing said feed rolls from the path or" movement of said forming mechanism.
5. In a blank feeding device of the class described, pairsof contacting rolls for passing the blanks successively beneath the forming mechanism, and in combination therewith means for withdrawingl said feeding rolls from contact with said blank. l0
In testimony whereof we hereunto affix our signatures.
HENRY BRADY. ADIN W. HILSINGER.
