Application led February To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known `that we, GABRIEL F. BORN and RUSSELL D. BORN, citizens of lthe United States, residing at New Philadelphia, in the county of Tuscarawas, State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Automatic Railway Signals; and `we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
' 'This invention relates to new and useful improvements in railway devices, and particularly to signaling devices therefor.
' One object of the invention is to provide a novel construction of signal, and train operated means for actuating the signal.
' Another object is to provide a device which is especially adapted for use at railway crossings, and which produces an audible as well as a visual signal, at the approach of a train to the crossing.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanymg drawing.

Figure 4 is a side elevation of the track tri llieferring particularly to the accompanying drawing, 10 represents a portion of a railway, and 11 the railway crossing. Mounted on one of the ties 12, of the railway, and at a suitable distance away from the crossing 11, is a bearing bracket 13. Movably supported on this bracket is a rock shaft 14, having a curved arm 15 on one end thereof, said arm being normally held at the approximate level of the tread of the adjacent rail, to be engaged and depressed by the langes of the wheels of a passing train. Mounted on the outer ends of the ties, adjacent the bracket 13, and extending to a point adjacent the crossing 11, is a pipe, or other hollow conduit 16, through which extends a cord, wire, or chain 17. On the other end of the rock shaft V14A there is mounted a radial arm 18, `.and connected to the outer end of this arm is the 4pressing same.

Secured to. and depending 'from the upper bar 20 is a bell 30, and within this bell is disposed the knobbed upper end 31, of the pendulum 25, and which knobbed end is adapted to strike the bell, upon the pendulum being rocked. Mounted on the upper bar 2O is an electric lamp A32, a wire extending therefrom to a stationary contact member 33, mounted on the bar 21, adjacent the pendulum, as shown at 34, while a wire 35 extends from the lamp to a source of electric current, not shown. On one of the ties, adjacent the crossing, and the adjacent end of the conduit 16, is a grooved wheel or pulley 39. The end portion of the iiexible element 17, remote from the trip arm 15, is passed around the pulley 39, and the pulleys 24, and is secured to the pendulum, above the pivot thereof.
