Be it known that I, BENGT A. Pnrrnnssox, subject of Sweden, residing at Lund, in a the county of Mahnohus and Kingdom of Swedem'haveinvented certain new anduse 'fullmprovements in Faucets, of which the following is a specification. y My invention relates to improvements in faucets. L
An object of the invention is to provide a faucet having dischargemeansi adapted to be insertedin cans and the like to prevent the formation of foam or, scum when being filled with liquid, 7 I v A further object of the invention is to construct the faucet so the'discharge means may be removed to a remote position when not in use, at the same time rendering the faucet inoperative.
Another object of the invention is topro' vide a device of the above character which is simple and durable in construction, eifie cient and sanitary in use, and inexpensive to manufacture. r
Other objects and advantages of the in+ vention will be apparent during the course of thefollowing description.

In the drawings, wherein forthe purpose of illustration 1 have shown a preferred embodiment of my invention the letter A desig- 60 nates a supply tank or container for holding liquid, with my improved faucet B attached thereto, for drawing the liquid from the tank. When filling milk cans or similar receptacles C, it is customary to attach a 55 length of hose to the discharge end of the 1324. Serial trouser re.
I faucet, to be placedin the can, so. the liquid willbe discharged near thebottom thereof, and thereby, prevent the formationof foam or scum. Inorder that thehose may be more conveniently handled and kept ina sanitary condition, thefaucet is constructed sothehoseamay be vertically raised when not in use, so as to be in aremote position from thefloor. I? i Referring more particularly to my invention the numeral 5, denotes the tapered body of the faucet B provided midway. its length with a lateral extension 7 having a passage 7', communicating with the a longitudinal bore 8 through the body. The extension is provided with 'a circumferential flange 9 and exterior screw threads 10, through the medium of which the body isconnected with an opening in the tank or container A.
To control and regulate thefiow of liquid through the faucet a valve'isprovidedv consisting of a tapered valve sleeve 12 revolve ably mounted in the bore 8, having ,it'slower endextended below the edge of the -body and'exteriorly screw threaded, as at 13,'to receive thescrew threaded ring 14 which clamps the sleeve in place. -The sl-eeve provides a seat for the rotatable plug 15, equipped at its upper end with an operating handle 16,- disposed at rightanglesthereto; The plug is provided with a longitudinal bore 17, open at its lower end, and openings 18 and 19 through the sides of the plug and sleeve 12, when in registering position with the passage 7 ,establish communication between thetank and the bore 17 of the plug.
The bore 17 at its lower end is provided with a nipple '18 to receive an end of the depending hose or pipe 19 which is seated on the shoulder 20 within the. nipple. The plug and sleeve are normally connected together by the pin 21 projecting from the side of the plug near its upper end and seated in the slot 22 in the upper peripheral edge of the sleeve. Thus, it is seen, that rotary movement of the plug, through move 7 ment of the handle, is imparted to the sleeve, so the openingsmay be brought simultaneously into registering position with the passage 7 of the extension. To prevent vertical movement of the plug when the valve is in operative position, the handl'e'is p'rolower end, the inner arm 24 slidably engagingthe underside of the annular flange 26 surrount ing the peripheral edge of the body. When the valve is given a half turn, the openings will be in nonregiste-ring position and the arm 24 will be disposed in alinement with the slot 27, through the flange 26; and the plug may then be raised vertically to elevate the discharge pipe to a remote position from the floor. If it is not desired 1 to raise the pipe, the valve may be locked by passing a suitable look, not shown, through the aperture 28 in the arm 25 and the registering aperture 29 in the lateral extending plate 80, cast integral with the body. Stop lugs 3-1 are provided on opposite sides of the body to limit the rotary movement of the valve. V
In. use, it will be readily seen, the turning of the operating handle will rotate. the sleeve and plugin unison, to close. or open the valve of the faucet. When completely closed the plug may be raised vertically to lift the hose upwardly, while the sleeve remains seatedand cuts" oil the flow of liquid. lVhen open the plug is held sea-ted by the arm which engages the underside of the. flange surrounding the upper edge oi the bod-y. Thus, a faucet of practical construction is provided, designed so a discharge hose or pipe may be used in filling cans or receptacles fronia supply tank, in a highly sanitary and convenient manner.
It is to be understood that the form of my invention here-with shown anddescribed is to be takenas a preferred example of the same, and that certainchanges in the shape,
size and arrangement of parts may be re sorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention-or: the scope of the subjoined claim.
Having thus described my invention, I claim: o
in a faucet, the combination of a tubular body surround-ed at its upper end by an annular flange and having a lateral passage. communicating with the bore of said body, a valve sleeve rotatably mounted in said body and extending below the lower end thereof, said sleeve having an opening through its side adapted to register with said lateral passage, a nut threaded on the lower end of said sleeve, a plug removably mounted in said: sleeve, having a central bore open at its lower end and provided with an opening through its side adapted to. reg-w ister with the opening of said sleeve, means detachably connecting said sleeve. and plug together, said plug having its lower end extending below the end of sald sleeve and having an internal recess, a flexible discharge pipe detach-ably fitted in. said recess and depending from the plug, a handle tor-med integral with the upper end of said plug and extending at right angles thereto, a stem formed integral with and depending from said handle adjacent the annular flange of. said body, a cross bar formed integral with the lower end of said stem, the inner end of said cross bar engaging the under side of said flange and adaptedto register with a slot in said flange when the valve is closed to permit removal of said plug, and a lateral plate extending from said body beneath said slot having anaperture adapted to register with the aperture through the outer end of said crossbar when the valve is closed whereby said valve may be locked in a closed; position.
