This invention relates to articles for decorative and ornamental purposes in house hold use. and more particularly to a decora tive device emhodying a container tuloe oi glass or like transparent material that is filled with tightly com ressed yarn or tloss of colored silk. mercerized cotton or the like. The device thus constituted. is adapted for embodiment in articles such as decorative candles. towel bars. ClPOtl'lP-liffllt' ixture candles or decorative co ers. and other emhodiments where a tubular ornamental torm might advantageously he, utilised. l have discovered that the sheen or lus er e. t hihited hy yarn or floss contained within a class tuhe is greatly enhanced hv th flattening and pressinir closely o the varn against the glass. and in my prior apnlication 9. N. 694.528. filed February 23 1921 l have shown and claimed this invention in its broader aspects and in one cathodiment thereot. The present invention is in the nature of an improvemcnt and inoditica' tion of the emhodini nt ot' th invention as shown in my prior application and has as its principal ohject creator economy ot manufactu e of decorative tithes o this character. particularly in the larsrer sizes such as are employed tor towel hars and he lilre. thoun'h the invention is a so apnh' nhlo to decorative candles and the like it (losired. Tn accordance with the present invention T econom ye in the use of tho decorm tive yarn or loss hv lavin' th some on a rrummed paper or lilze haclrino sheet. and th n after tittino said sheet in the tuhular form so that the yarn lies evenly airainst. and covers the interior Wall ot th tuhe. the interior s a e of the tuhe is filled ith t ehtly packed stnflino' such as chea cotton was e or the like.
The forerroine' and other ohiects and advantages of the invention will more tnllv appear from the following detailed descrip- Serial No. 17.597.
lion talien in connection with the accompanyin; drawings. and the distinctive 'l'ea tures of novelty will he pointed out in the appended claims.
l'tet'erring' to the drawings:
Fig. l. is an elevation of a eunm'ied paper sheet showing the. same partly covered with decorative yarn or tloss in accordance with my invention.
Fig. 2 is a transverse section thereof on line 22 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is an elevation of a decorative candle en'ihodyin g the invention.
Fig. l is an elevation on a relatively smaller scale showing a towel har emhodyin the invention.
Fig. 5 is a traelnentary longitudinal section showing: one end of a decorative tuhe produced in accordance with my invention; and
Fig. 6 is a transverse section on line 6( cf Fig. 4.
10 indicates a sheet of paper having: a suitable adhesive gum applied to one side thereof. On this rummed surface yarn or floss 11 is laid either in a close. parallel. longitudinal order. or other order or arrangement that may he preterred. so as to cover the entire surface ot this gummed side of the paperr the yarn heinej thus held in a definite position on the paper sheet. The gummed paper is then inserted and lit ted in a glass tuhe which may he eith r a decorative candle form as indicated at 12 in Fig. 3. or it may he a glass towel har as indicated at l3 in Fig. 4. The yarn or floss thus disposed ae'ainst the inside surface of the glass tuhe is tightly compressed against such surface hy any proper or suitahle means. for example. hy stuttina the tube with cheap cotton waste or the lil e.thus causing the yarn or floss to exhihit a greatly enhanced luster and sheen by reason of such compression and flattening ot the yarn a qainst the glass The end of the tuhe in the towel har type of Fig. 4 and the inner end of the candle t'orm of Fig. 3 may he closed lov a snitahle plug 14. while in the eas of the candl the reduced nd 12 thereof may have strands of the yarn nroieetine therefrom as indicated at 15 to simulate the candle flame.
I am aware that the invention ma he emhodied in other specific t'orms without departing from the spirit or essential at tributes thereof, and I therefore desire the present embodiment to be considered in all respects as illustrative and not restrictive, refereiiee being; had to the appended claims rather than to the foregoing description to indicate the scope ot the invention.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. An ornan'ienlal tubular form, eon'iprising a transparent tube, a flexible sheet having yarn or floss adhesively secured thereto and ted in said tube to expose such yarn against the inner wall of the tube, and means for pressing closely and flattening such yarn against the Walls of the tube.
2. An ornamental tubular form, eomprising a transparent tube, a flexible sheet having ornamental yarn or floss adhesively seeured to one side thereof, with said sheet titted in said tube so that the yarn is laid against the walls ot the tube, and means for filling out the interior of the tube so to exert substantial pressure upon said yarn to press it tightly and flatten it against the Walls of the tube.
3. An ornamental tubular form, comprising a glass tube, a paper sheet having yarn adhesively secured to one side thereof in a pre-determined order, with said sheet fitted in sueh tube so that the yarn is ex posed against the. Walls thereof, and means lor stul ing the interior of the tube to press such yarn tightly and closely against the inner surface of the tube.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
