Referringnow to the drawing in which like characters of reference deslgnate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the numeral 1 designates a case plate which is secured to the inner side of a' ve-' hicle door 2 and which is provided at one edge w th a laterally extending flange 3 that is secured to the outer edge of the door.

The cover plate 16 is provided with'an elongated openended slot 20 that extends longitudinally thereof and that registers with the bolt, the shank of the bolt being preferably cut away at its inner end as shown at21 so as to extend beyond the inner end portion of the cover plate.

trigger 30 that is pivoted at its nner end .upon the caseplate 1 and that isprovided at its outer end with a recess 81 for miving a lug .32 projecting downwardly from the hub 22. Thus, when the trigger is raised, as shown by the full lines in Figure 1, the forward flat face 33 of the lug 32 will engage the flat forward end of the recess 31 so that the hub 22 will be positively held against rotation in a counter clockwise direction. Inasmuch as the upstanding arm 23 of the hub is normally in engagement with the flan e 3 of the case plate the hub 22 will also be eld against rotation in a clockwise direction.
In order that the lever 14 may be used to actuate the trigger 30, I preferably locate the pivot 35 for the trigger in rear of the pivot 36 for the lever and provide an extenent I desire to have it understood that sion 37 that projects from the lever at a point below the plvot 36 and that is adapted to enga e a curved extension38 that projects upward y fromthe trigger 30 preferably at a point in the rear of the pivot 35. Thus, when the lever 14 is moved forwardly to lock the bolt the extension 37 will engage the extension 38 and will cause the forward end' of the trigger 30 to be swung forwardly sb that the recess 31 will receive thelug 32. For normally retaining the lever 14 in neutral position, I preferably provide a spring 39 that is coiled about one of. the .spacers 19'. One end of the spring 39 abuts the forward edge of the lever 14, while the other end is preferably held by a bent over lug 40 on the case plate 1.
The lever 14 is also used to release the bolt and for this purpose, I preferably provide an upstanding lug 41 on the upper edge of the trigger 30 in advance of the pivot 35 so that w en the lever 14 is moved rearwardly the extension 37 will engage the projection 41 and will cause the forward end of the trigger to be swung downwardly'so that the lug 32 will be d'men aged from the recess 31'; Thus, when the g 14 ma be moved rearwar'dly initially to release t e trigger to unlock the bolt and then may be moved further in a rearward direction to retract the bolt and release the door while maintaining the locking mechanism mgperatlve. t

In a lock for doors and the like, the combination with a spring pressed bolt, and meansupon the inside of the door for retracting the bolt, of a hub operable from the outside of the door having an arm for retracting the bolt, a projection on said hub, and a member adapted to be moved by the inside retracting means into and out of engagement with said projection for alternately locking and releasing said arm.

In a lock for doors and the like, the combination with a spring pressed bolt, and means upon the inside of'the door for retracting the bolt, of a hub operable from the outsideof the door having an arm for retracting the bolt, a projectionon said hub, and a member pivoted below the inside operating means adapted to be engaged directly by a portion of the inside operating means to be alternately moved into and out of en agement with the projection on the hub or alternately locking and releasing the latter.

In a lock for doors and the like, the combination with anormally projected bolt, of a hub operable from the outside of the door having an arm for retracting the bolt, a projection on the hub, a pivoted member engageable with the projection, said member'having spaced projections, and a pivoted lever operable from the inside of the door having an extension beyond its pivot alternately engageable with said projections for moving said member to operative and inoperative positions.
11. In a lock for doors and the like,-the combination with a case plate, and a normally projected bolt carried thereby, of a hub operable from the outside of the door having an arm for retracting the bolt, a
projection on the hub, a member operable from the inside of the door for retracting the bolt, a member pivoted on the case plate below the bolt adapted to engage the projection on the hub for rendering the 'arm inoperative, and a projection on the -last retracting member for actuating said pivot member.

' combination with a normally projected bolt, .of'a hub operable from the outside of the door having an arm for retracting the bolt, a projection on the hub, a member operable from the inside of the door for retracting the bolt, and a member located'below the bolt adapted to be moved by the last retracting member into and out of engagement with the projection of the hub for alternatel holding and releasing said arm.
