9 This invention relates to adapters.

It will be explained as applied to an adapter :forluse with a therapeutic lamp.

One of [the objects of this invention is to provide an'improved adapter.

The device as illustrated comprises two readily separable sections, a lamp section 5 and an applicator section 6. Lamp section 5 is-adapted for relatively permanent mountin-gon alamp iii-any desired manner. -App'lic'ator section 6 is adapted to carry various forms of ap-plicators and to be readily attached to and detached from the lamp section.

Outer ring '19 is provided with an outwardly projecting lug 20. A radialcut 21 through the middle of dug 20 permits the 'ends of ring lfil to be spread apart.

These groovesZfi-t over ring 19 and prevent rotation of-pawl 24, although allowing the Lamp section 5 has an internally threaded pawl to move longitudinally. A guide pin 28 mounted on the ratchet face of pawl 24 projects into groove 14, so as to hold the pawl in alignment with ratchet 13. The inner diameter of ring 19 is made slightly greater than the diameter of groove 14 so that spring 26 normally holds outer ring 19 eccentric to inner ring on which it is mounted.

The teeth of ratchet 13 engage the teeth of pawl 24 to retain ring 19 in any position to which it may be turned. Ring 19 may be turned, when desired, by exerting suiiicient substantially tangential force on lug 20 to cause pawl 24 to ride over the teeth of ring 10.

A pair of diametrically opposed slots 29 are formed in outer ring-19. These slots may be positioned equidistant from lug 20.

Applicator section 6 has a socket 30 for receiving and holding an applicator. Socket 30 is formed in a cylindrical member 31 which has an outwardly extending annular flange 32. Flange 32 has a lateral rim 33 which is extended to form a pair of projecting lugs 34.

When section 6 is attached to the lamp section of the adapter, rim 33 fits snugly over and encloses the adjacent knurled flange 11 and lugs 34 are positioned within slots 29. In order that lugs 34 may be positioned in slots 29 with rim 33 fitting over the outer periphery of inner ring 10, outer ring 19 must be moved to a concentric position relative to member 10. This is accomplished by a radial thrust on lug 20 sulficient to overcome the pressure of spring 26.

After mounting applicator section 6 on ring 19 and relieving the radial thrust on lug 20, spring 26 moves ring 19 to its normal eccentric position relative to ring 10. The close fit of rim 33 over ring 10 holds the applicator section concentric with ring 10 when ring 19 returns to its normal position. Slots 35 are provided in lugs 34, so that ring 19 in moving to its eccentric position in groove 14 looks lugs 34 within slots 29 and the lamp and applicator sections are secured together.

Cylindrical member 31 has a set screw 36 mounted thereon so that an applicator may be securely fastened within socket 30.

Since applicator section 6 is rotatable about member 10, an applicator fastened to member 31 will be rotated therewith.

Member 31 may be used as an applicator, if desired, by holding the open end thereof against the surface to be treated.

Thus it will be seen that an adapter is provided for mounting on a therapeutic lamp, said adapter having a portion thereof rotatable about the remainder of the adapter and detachably mounted thereon so as to be easily, though not necessarily, removed when mounting applicators on the detachable portion, whereby applicators of various sizes and shapes can be quickly mounted on the lamp and rotated as desired.

Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is 1- 1. An adapter for attaching light applicators to a therapeutic lamp and comprising, a lamp section through which light from the lamp may pass and which has a part for rigid attachment to a lamp and a part rotatable upon the iirst mentioned part, an applicator section through which the light from the lamp may pass to an applicator carried thereby, and a lug and slot connection between the applicator section and the rotatable part of the lamp section whereby the same may be locked together and readily separated.

An adapter having an exteriorly grooved ring for attachment to a lamp; a member mounted in the groove of the ring; resilient means yieldingly holding the ring eccentric to said member and permitting relative rotation therebetween and an applicator section detachably mounted on the ring.

An adapter having an exteriorly grooved ring for attachment to a lamp; a member mounted in the groove of the ring and rotatable thereabout; resilient means yieldingly holding the member eccentric to the ring and permitting relative rotation therebetween and permitting the member to be positioned concentric to the ring; and an,

applicator section mounted on the member and detachable therefrom when said member is in its concentric position relative to the ring.

Anadapter having an exteriorly grooved ring for attachment to a lamp; 2. member mounted in the groove in the ring and rotatable therein; a pair of diametrically opposed slots in the member; resilient means yieldingly holding the member eccentric to the ring and permitting the member to be concentrically positioned relative to the ring; an applicator section comprising a cylinder having a rim adapted to fit closely over the outer periphery of the member; a pair of diametrically opposed outwardly extending lugs on the rim, said lugs being insertable in the slots when the member is positioned concentric to the ring whereby the applicator section can be detachably mounted on the ring; and means on the cylinder for fastening therapeutic applicators thereto.

An adapter comprising a lamp section having a ring internally threaded for mounting on a lamp, said ring having laterally 7 extending teeth on its outer periphery to form a ratchet and a circumferential groove cutting said teeth into two sections, a membcr rotatably mounted in the groove, said member having a pair of diametrically opposed periphery dial lug, said lug having its radial axis perpendicular to the diameter of the slots; a ratchet pawl mounted in an aperture in the lug and operatively engaging the ratchet, said pawl having a guide pin projecting into the circumferential groove, and an outwardly extending radial shank, a spring mounted on the shank to yieldingly hold the pawl in operative engagement with the ratchet, said spring normally holding the member eccentric to the ring and permitting the member to be positioned concentric to the ring; and an applicator section comprising a cylinder having a pair of diametrically opposed lugs adapted to be inserted in the slots in the member when said member is concentric to the ring whereby said cylinder can be mounted on the member and rotated therewith; and means on said cylinder for fastening therapeutical applicators thereto.

An adapter having a ring internally threaded for mounting on a lamp; said ring having laterally extending teeth on its outer periphery to form a ratchet and a circumferential groove cutting said teeth into two sections; a member rotatably mounted in the groove, said member having a pair of diametrically opposed slots positioned near its outer periphery and an outwardly projecting radial ing with its radial axis perpendicular to the diameter of the slots; a ratchet pawl mounted in an aperture in the lug; means yieldingly holding the member normally eccentric to the ring and the pawl in engagement with the ratchet; a cylinder mounted on the member and rotatable therewith, said cylinder having a pair of diametrically opposed lugs engaging the slots in the member, said lugs being insertable in the slots only when the ring is concentric with the member and being slotted so as to permit the member to return to its normal position eccentric to the ring when said cylinder is mounted on the ring; and means for detachably mounting a therapeutic applicator on the cylinder.

7. An adapter for a therapeutic lamp having a lamp section through which light may pass from the lamp and which has a grooved ring for rigid attachment to a lamp, an ap plicator attaching ring rotatably mounted in said groove, and means for yieldingly holding the two rings against relative movement.

8. An adapter comprising a lamp section having a fixed element for attachment to a lamp and a movable element rotatably carried by the fixed element, and a ratchet for holding the elements in diflerent relative positions; an applicator section; and cooperating means on the movable element of the lamp section and the applicator section for permitting quick attachment and detachment of the applicator section and the lamp section.
